“Caliana is your mate?” I cried through my pain. It can’t, a woman took him from me once and I wasn’t going to let history repeat itself. Is she his real mate or a chosen one like before? I thought before darkness enveloped me.
Edward’s POV
“Caliana Meyers is your mate and you didn’t tell us?” My brother was looking me in the eyes, I poured myself a glass of scotch, still angry at what Candace did to her. Caliana would have died that day and why the fuck was she protecting her?
‘She knew you’d never take her side over that bitch of yours,’ Ward said. that’s not true, I would have taken her side, she’s my Luna.
‘But you knew that she hurt her,’ Ward’s accusatory tone rang in my ear. I didn’t want to accept that Candace would even attempt such cruelty, in my eyes, she’ll always be that little girl I grew up with but even I should recognize the change I see in her, this time it’s not petty jealousy. It is hatred…
“I want Candace and whosoever was involved in the attack of the Luna to pay, send them to the penitentiary center with hard labor, and afterward, they shall continue to do community service until I say otherwise,” I told Marcus, he nodded, and left my office
Jamal threw himself on the couch
“So what did I miss while I was away in matters of the Luna,” He sighed and I shrug
“The Meyers girl was attacked,”
“Your mate,” He smiled and I wanted to smack the grin off his face. I can’t believe I’ve said out loud that Caliana Meyers is my mate.
“I heard she’s been doing a great job, she surprised everyone,” He added and I agreed.
“She hosted her first dinner last night and it was a success, everyone was pleased and those general bastards wouldn’t stop peeking at her,”
“Are you jealous, brother?” He smirked.
“I don’t want her, I’m not ready,” I confessed.
“She’s not Jane Anne, Edward, I just can’t believe you rejected your mate, poor girl,” He grimaced
“I didn’t reject her,” I told him defensively. People would judge me for my behavior towards my mate and I’m an asshole for treating her the way I do but I have the right to refuse her because I’m incapable of trusting a woman, ever. The betrayal I’ve been through was grave. I adored Jane Ann yet I found out she was a spy who was used by Dean to bring my pack down, and on top of that, she cheated with another man after we had a child together. I rid myself of that memory, not wanting it anywhere near my life. My mind wandered to Caliana’s luminous face, her complexity fragile and sensual. The way she leaned into me for support when she was anxious last night, made me want to protect her. She is vulnerable and sensitive yet strong-willed. I also noticed that she’s getting bolder nowadays and is not as scared of me as she was before, it’s good.
I spent the whole day at my company working, and I kept receiving calls from the jail where Candace and June were being held but I didn’t answer. Leaving my office, I went straight home, I kissed my sleeping daughter goodnight before going to my suite. I wondered if it has always been this cold..
Two days later, I’m sure Caliana was avoiding me and it’s making Ward uneasy, he needed to see her, and take in her scent. Going to the Luna’s office in town, I found that she was not there.
‘Where’s the Luna,’ I asked her driver, Ronaldo, through the mind link.
‘Um, sir, I warned her not to go there but she insisted,’ Her driver said. I was confused as to what he was talking about.
‘She’s outside the gates… with the strays that reside in that area,’
For a few months there have been werewolf and Lycan strays residing outside the main gate. We have tried to keep them out in the past but they keep coming back so we let them be as they don’t cause trouble but what connection does my mate have with them?
Caliana’s POV
I was done sulking over a man that doesn’t love me. Getting out of bed, I went to cash the cheque I was given by Alpha Edward. I’ve been wanting to get supplies for the rogues, and Mr.Tim told me that they didn’t receive any treatment.
So I made a budget to get some cough medicines, and comforters, for the rest of the money I bought some food for them, this is not enough but they will have to make due. Mr. Tim helped us load the supplies in his white Van and followed behind our car. My driver, Ronald, was giving me a disapproving look. He thinks the Alpha will hate that we left the pack gates. We drove ten more minutes after the gate when I noticed two men in their Lycan form jogging beside the cars.
“Who are they?”
“Your guards,” He answered, keeping his eyes on the road.
“I have guards?”
“Yes, the Alpha assigned them to you after the attack,” My wolf purred.
‘He loves us, he wants us to be safe always,’ I only rolled my eyes at her but I must confess, it felt good knowing that he did this for me. I wiped away the smile that was beginning to form on my lips and I sighed ” Good, we might use extra hands to unpack,”
Caliana’s POV
The car stopped not far in a clearing that had two huge tents and Ron opened the door for me. I got out and scanned the area. Apart from the two old tents, there are two fireplaces. The only thing protecting them is a small fence made of grass and an animal large enough can break it down.
“Where is everyone?” I wondered, glancing at my frowning driver.
Mr. Tim got out of the van and the two guards were next to us, surveying the location.
‘They are close,’ I received a mind link from one of the guards.
“We are only here to help!” I called out, and a few seconds later, two men and the woman, Kareen, appeared. She smiled and they bowed
“Luna, we weren’t expecting you,” She said. I approached them.
“I’ve brought some supplies for you, I know it’s not much but I hope it can help,” I said and they smiled, four men and women my age appeared, and a few followed until they were dozen of them, men, children, woman, and seniors, they didn’t look too healthy.
“We don’t know what to say,” The man stuttered.
“Thank you,” He said with a smile on his face.
“Can you please unload the goods we brought for them,” I asked the two Lycan guards, they hesitated when I remembered they have to shift and that will require clothes.
“Guys, I have pairs of shorts in the car, follow me,” Ron said,
“We’ll help,” Four young men volunteered and went to the van with Mr. Tim. As they unloaded the boxes, Kareen and the others started to unpack them and distribute what they could. While a few ladies started the fire to cook, others were getting utensils. I went to the kids, I’ve always had a soft spot for children. They were playing all sorts of games with only one woman watching over them.
“Hello,” I greeted the woman, she stood up from a wooden chair and bowed to me.
“Luna,”
“How many kids are there?”
“Sixteen,” They were all of the different ages and played according to their age group. The lady’s name is Olivia, she was tall and pretty with natural red hair and she was a school teacher before she went rogue and joined this group. I wanted to ask about their background or how they ended up being rogues but I didn’t want to pry. In our community Rogues are considered as the low class, they have no pack, power, or money. Some are born as rogues but others are banished by their packs.
Olivia smiled at me, she had a lovely smile that suited her bright soft pretty face,” I know you want to ask so go ahead, after what you’ve done for us, I can give you that,”
“Where are you from and why did you choose to stay close to the “Golden Stone Pack?”
