Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 20 – Fated Is Overrated

“You look breathtaking wow! Leaving your teenage years with a bang!” I exhale. “No, we are leaving our teenage years with a bang! Now sit down and let me do your makeup” she squeals excitedly. “Fine, but not too much ok!

I am already outside my comfort zone in this dress and you know I am already standing out anyway”. I close my eyes as Nadia starts working on my face. When I get to re-open them, I see my eyes have been done smokey black – which suits me perfectly. It really does look stunning. She doesn’t put any lipstick on as per my request, only some shadeless lip gloss to still accentuate them a bit.

I leave my wavy blonde hair down, partially covering my open back, but as my hair reaches mid-back, the bottom back is still visibly open. Nadia puts her straight black hair up, showcasing her perfect collarbones and shoulders.

As we both stand in front of the mirror arm in arm, admiring both our reflections, we hear a knock on the door “you ladies ready? It’s 9:30 and we have to help some of the staff with their preparations still”. As Nadia’s parents are wealthy, they have hired all kinds of staff for their special birthday party. A DJ, bartenders, caterers, servants, you name it. Nadia snaps out of looking at our reflections “ready, come in!”.

As the door opens, Jason’s eyes widen in absolute shock and he is unable to speak for what seems like forever. “Erhm, is something wrong? Do we not look okay? Should I change?” I manage to squeeze out in the awkward silence. “I….

don’t know what to say..” “well, that’s a first” Nadia laughs as I awkwardly chuckle. After some more awkward silence, Jason finally breaks it. “You both look…. absolutely stunning. I just wish other guys wouldn’t get to see you like this… I….” Nadia scoffs “come on little brother, let’s go make the last preparations like you said”.

Still unable to peel his eyes away from me, Nadia pulls him downstairs and I follow both of them behind. “What can I help with, anything I can do?” I ask Nadia, as Jason is still awkwardly glancing at me. Yikes if this is his reaction, I wonder if I made the right decision for tonight. But there is no going back now. I don’t have another dress so I have to stick to my guns now.

What’s the worst they could do to me anyway, after having bullied me for years?

Lola POV

Nadia has me helping out the bartender, setting up the bar and stocking it. Before I know it, the first guests have already arrived and I am still helping the bartender along. But I don’t mind as it keeps me distracted from all the ogling eyes staring at me like always – but this time it’s different as I am really out of my comfort zone. The bartender is a really nice guy to talk to anyway, so time passes by swiftly while the guests are piling in and the music from the DJ is booming. After settling my nerves and having thought most school and pack mates had seen me by now (Nadia’s parents have also invited some of their friends’ children from other packs), I chug a few shots down and step out from the bar and start to look for Nadia and Jason.

I have never drank any alcohol actually, but tonight I am letting loose. Whilst looking for them I see Chris and his posse have arrived at the party. Luckily, they haven’t noticed me in the crowd yet though. I see a girl on Chris’ lap straddling him – same as always. I don’t recognize the girl as she is probably one of the girls from another pack.

He barely even pays attention to the girl as he continues to talk to his friends. He just uses women as objects and doesn’t see them as actual people. And right on cue as always, Chris says something to the girl and she unromantically walks behind him to follow him to the bedroom. Another girl willing to let herself be used for his pleasure.

I start looking around for Nadia and Jason again when I notice Ashton staring directly at me, his eyes locking with mine. Somehow, I don’t see his normal face of disgust when looking at me, although I can’t quite figure out the look on his face. It’s as if he doesn’t recognize me looking like this. Which is perfect, as I do not have any intention of interacting with any of them. I hope they all fail to recognize me.

I quickly head back to the bar to ask my befriended bartender for some more shots. He gives me a scolding look asking “are you sure about this?”. I nod my approval and ask for 4 shots. All or nothing tonight. He shakes his head, watching me down all the shots at once and gives me a concerning look.

I smile at him and turn on my heels to look for Nadia again. As I walk away I notice I am feeling fuzzy, a nice kind of fuzzy. Is this the alcohol already? Aren’t werewolves supposed to be more resistant to alcohol? Lost in my thoughts, I bump into someone as I yell my “sorry” and try to walk on further, I notice the guy I bumped into is not from our pack.

And also, he is openly staring me up and down. I raise my eyebrows. “What? Never seen a female before?” which is apparently funny, since he laughs. It wasn’t meant to be funny though.

I hate people staring at me as it is always followed by bullying and belittling. “Sorry for staring but.. you just look.. breathtaking”. I take a few seconds (the alcohol is slowing down my senses) to assess the guy’s face to see if he is mocking me, but as far as my judgement can tell, it seems like a genuine response.

“Thanks. Gotta go. So you can breathe again” I reply quite b*tchy (as I am), but he only laughs in response while watching me walk out of sight.
