“I would like that, Charlie.” For the first time since we ran from the pack, I feel like we could be happy here. I’m hopeful that Reese and Robert won’t find us. I’m even looking forward to meeting the man responsible for our amazing apartment and that sweet little girl
Beckham POV
When I pull into the driveway of our house, Gideon is pacing in my mind. I turn the truck off, but! don’t get out. “Alright, what the hell is up with you lately?” “If you got your head out of your a** for just one second you would already have realized what’s happening,” he says.
“Are you kidding me? I don’t know what the hell you’re going on about. I’m not playing a guessing game with you, Gideon.”
“Just f**king spit it out already.” He puts up a block and I suddenly wish I could kick my own wolf’s a**. I make my way up onto the porch, and I’m just about to grab the door handle when it swings open. Before Stacey can even speak, the smell of coconut and vanilla wraps around me like a blanket. It’s the same scent as the one from the bakery
Stacey, stepping onto the porch, breaks me out of my trance. “Hey Beck” she says, and I can already tell I’m not going to like what she is about to tell me. “Lily, invited her new friend over for dinner. I just wanted to tell you before you walk inside so you can be alittle less grumpy.” “Iam not grumpy.
Besides, I’m glad that Lily has a new friend. Is it one of the little girls from the daycare?”
“No, she met her at the bakery today. She even told Rose to call her Lily bear. She doesn’t let anyone else but us call her Lily bear, Beck. She really likes Rose,” she says. “Why dol feel like you’re not talking about another pup” I say with irritation in my voice.
“Calm down, Rose is a lovely young woman.” “You invited a stranger into our home for dinner. You left her inside with my daughter, alone.”
“She is not a stranger. She is Miranda’s daughter and Lily is really comfortable with her,” she says. Without another word I stalk around Stacey and into the house. As I move toward Lily’s room, the scent gets stronger, and my heart is hammering against my chest. Gideon’s words replay in my mind
This can’t be happening. I can’t have another mate. I won’t accept another mate. I won’t betray my bond with Deborah. Gideon growls but I ignore him.
“Don’t you dare reject our second chance mate, Beck. I swear to the goddess I will make you so sorry if you do,” he growls. I’m standing in front of Lily’s bedroom door when I hear a soft feminine voice that makes me heart practically stop beating
“How old are you, Lily bear?” “I am three, but I’ll be four soon. Daddy says I can have a princess party. Will you come to my party, Rose,” Lily asks
Before she can answer, I push open the door. I should have left as soon as I caught her scent. Being in the same room with her is a mistake. My goddess, she is beautiful. “Mate” Gideon growls in my mind, but I refuse to acknowledge him
“Daddy” Lily says as she jumps up and rushes over to me. I scoop her up in my arms and bury my nose in her hair. “Hey Lily bear. I missed you today.” “I missed you too, daddy.
Look, I made a new friend” she says, pointing at the stunning woman who seems rooted to her spot across the room staring at me. Does she know that I’m her mate? No, she can’t, the spell won’t allow her to scent me
Rosalyn POV
When I arrived at the address that Stacey gave me, I was impressed
The house reminded me of the large cottages back at the pack. Despite being on the larger size, it still seemed cozy. There is a large porch that wraps around the home. It would be ideal for sipping coffee and watching the sun rise
It’s what I imagined I’d be living in with my mate before I found out that I was mated to Reese. I push thoughts of him away and climb the few stairs that lead to the porch. I knock lightly and a few seconds later Stacey opens the door
“Rose, come in. We have about twenty minutes before dinner is ready and Lily hasn’t stopped talking about showing you her room.” “Lcan’t wait,” I say. “Rose” a delighted squeal comes from behind Stacey. “Hi Lily bear,” I say as she wraps her arms around my waist.
I bend down, hugging her. Having this little girl in my arms feels right. “Rose, come on, I’ll show you my room and toys” she says excitedly when I release her. She takes my hand, pulling me down the hallway
As soon as we are in Lily’s room, I feel a sense of peace wash over me
Something about this pup makes my heart feel full. I’ve been around pups all my life, but I feel a connection with Lily I’ve never felt before. After a few minutes of Lily showing me her favorite dolls, the door to her room opens
When I look up at the man standing in the doorway, I feel like the air is knocked from my lungs
He looks like he should be on the cover of a magazine. His black hair is slicked back with a few loose pieces hanging on his forehead. His piercing blue eyes send a shiver down my spine. His green t-shirt is taught across his broad chest. Zora purring snaps me out of ogling.
I scramble to my feet and stare at him holding Lily. Warmth spreads throughout my chest as I watch this ruggedly handsome man speak so sweetly to his tiny daughter
“Look, I made a new friend,” Lily says, pointing at me. His eyes meet mine and I feel like my heart is going to pound out of my chest. A faint scent of sandal wood and leather invades my nose. His blue eyes seem to sweep down my body but it happens so quickly I’m not sure if I imagined it or not. I swear his eyes darken, but that can’t be.
