“Well, I never did have a sister.” She said, looking at me through the reflection before turning me around to face her when she noticed that tears were forming in my eyes. “But it’s never too late to have one, don’t you think?”
Killian:
“Let me get this straight, you are assigning me to clean your suite alongside Eleanor?” Natasha asked and I nodded, raising an eyebrow at her. “Don’t I do enough around the house already?”
“All you do is sit on your phone alongside your mom while everyone else works.” I said, raising an amused eyebrow at the woman. Natasha was the one person that I never forced to do anything around the house. Her working in the house was not something that I liked to begin with, but I knew that it was because Liana wanted her to stay here after she completed her university, not wanting her to go and work for someone, not that I was going to allow her to do so anyway. And I didn’t mind, I loved her being around us, and the last thing that I was going to do was say something that annoyed or hurt Liana.
“Excuse me, I do my nails and tend to my own business. Plus, mama often has me helping her.” She said,
“Once every blue moon, and that is when she has too much on her hands.” I said, and she raised her hands in exaggeration. “Come on, Natasha, you and I both know that I only asked you because I trust you. Plus, she really does need help.”
“I am going to get twenty-nine days off in a thirty day month and thirty days off in a thirty-one day month.” She said, and I laughed, shaking my head at her. I got up from my desk and walked toward her before getting on my knee in front of her as I took her hand in mine. The woman was something else, and that was something that I would never be able to deny, plus, there was the fact that she knew that she was able to do what she was.
“You know that I am only assigning you to help her out because I trust you with my life.” I said and she playfully rolled her eyes.
“Says the man that hired a stranger to be in charge of his suite.” She said, raising an amused eyebrow. “I am guessing that you liked her ass, it is a sight for the sore eye.”
“I am not sure whether to be confused about the fact that you’re having a conversation about a woman’s ass with me or the fact that you actually checked it out.” I said, raising an amused eyebrow.
“Excuse me, have you never been a woman? We check one another out more than men check us out,” she said and I shook my head.
“Unfortunately, no, I have never been a woman.” I said, and she sighed.
“Men,” she said and I raised my hands in surrender. “Fine, I will do the job. My condition still stands on my days off.”
“Sure it does,” I said, rolling my eyes at the woman. I knew that I didn’t need to inform her that I wanted her to give me any information that she found off. I didn’t need their private girls’ talk, but what I did need was something that she found as strange or dangerous toward us as a family. To say the least, despite believing that she wouldn’t be doing anything to harm the family or the pack. The woman seemed too fragile for that and her fear was something that I could read easily. The one thing that I didn’t understand was the source of it, especially putting in mind that no one was doing anything to harm her.
I watched as Natasha got up from her chair and straightened her dress. “Where are you going?”
“I have to go and do public labor.” She said, making me laugh. “My unfortunate fate of loving a prickhead of a brother like you too much,”
“Well, that prickhead of a brother would be giving you a raise for this,” I said, and she raised an amused eyebrow. “And the new bedroom that you asked for,”
“Mama is going to kill you,” she teased knowing that it was the fourth time that her room has been designed and renovated this year.
“I am innocent,” I said and she laughed. “It was on you, but I believe that she would be proud that you would be doing something else rather than just sitting your butt on some couch all day.”
“I lay on my belly most of the day, so that does not count.” She said, and I shook my head. She laughed and walked toward me before kissing my cheek and I smiled as I wrapped an arm around her waist. “Don’t worry, I’ll do this for you without anything extra.”
“I know,” I said, my voice softening. I knew that she believed that she owed me for everything that I did for her, but if I could, I would have done more. The hospital treatments that she got and the medication that came afterwards was the easy part. It was the pain that she went through that hurt me. I kissed her temple, letting my lips linger there for a second before pulling away to look her in the eye.
She smiled before taking a step back and walking toward the door. “I am going to be cursing throughout the whole day, just giving you a heads up.”
I laughed and shook my head at her before she closed the door, leaving me alone with my thoughts and I had to admit, I couldn’t help but wonder what my mate’s story was. And that started with the fact that she couldn’t feel the bond or the fact that I couldn’t even sense her wolf despite knowing that she was.
“What are you hiding, Eleanor?”
******************************
“They left? Just like that?” I asked Vladimir who shook his head.
“They say that they found the fiancé and chose to leave, wanting to have the wedding in Italy. Though how they did or where, I am not sure, no one is giving out any information about that.” He said and I frowned in confusion. Regardless of how dumb the woman was, I doubted that she would be running without a proper place to hide, right?
