Chapter 10 – Mated to Big Brother-in-law

He turned around and let out,

“The head Alpha of the Night Shade Pack can’t reject his mate. It will take away his position.”

“Then what can I do now?”

“Just take the punishment for being someone’s mate whom you are not worthy of.”

It was a terrible feeling for her when she heard him. Unexpectedly, it caused her heart to hurt.

She did not know why she started to feel that way toward him. But because of the mate bond, she started to feel strange around him at least her wolf felt it.

“I am sorry that the engagement ceremony that you had planned did not go as planned. I can apologize to anyone you want. Nevertheless, I beg you not to remove my brother from his position. He worked hard for that.”

“And why would I do that? What will I get?”

“You can make me do anything.”

With a raised eyebrow, he turned his head to look at her.

“Anything you said?”

She had no other choice but to comply with his demand, even though she had no idea what he would want her to do.

Consequently, she slowly nodded her head.

They did not even know each other well. Who could have thought that he would end up being her mate?

His dark eyes were intently fixed on her. On the other hand, she was unable to maintain her gaze on him for so long. So she averted her eyes away from him.

He nodded his head and went over to the couch.

He sat on the couch with one leg on top of the other.

His marvelous fingers took hold of the cigarette, making him look like a Greek god in that sitting posture.

He spoke out with his deep voice.

“The head Alpha of the Night Shade Pack can’t reject his mate. It’s the main law here. I can’t change the law that was established by my ancestors a very long time ago.”

Sophia looked at him.

What did he mean by that? Did that mean he would accept her?

Her heart began to beat unexpectedly, just looking at the mighty man.

“What do you mean, A-Alpha?” she asked with a low voice.

After staring at her for a while, he finally spoke up.

“Since you can do anything, I will take my order back. But you should be ready for reimbursement.”

Sophia waited for his demand. Because of what she had done during his engagement ceremony, she thought he would punish her. But he replied with a cold tone.

“Wait for my next command. Until then, stay away from my family, especially my brother.”

Hearing him, she started to think about their mate bond. How could she hide it? He was her mate.

As if he could read her mind, he stated,

“It is the law that I can’t reject, but there is no law that I must accept.

I will never accept you as my mate.”

SIX MONTHS LATER

Sophia’s POV

Fog hung over the sky, making the day a gloomy one.

I chose to put on a white overcoat so that I would not have to struggle against the chilly weather. I was not a fan of the winter season.

While I was looking at myself in the mirror, I gave myself a little smile.

“Calm down. Everything will be okay.” After taking a deep breath, I whispered this to myself as I tried to look confident.

Today was a presentation day at my university, and I had been working hard for it all month.

The result of the freshman year had been published, and I topped the score.

Now that I was in my sophomore year of university, I was looking for a job that would allow me to work part-time. So winning this presentation was really important for me. Because they would provide me with the opportunity for an internship at a big company, which would ultimately lead to a permanent job if I were to win.

In the past six months, my life had totally changed.

That day, as I was leaving the pack house after having a conversation with Alpha Bryan, my brother received a phone call from the officials, who informed him that he may return to Gamma’s position. However, he would have to stay one year in the training quarter under the pack house.

Since that day, my mother and I had been living by ourselves. We missed Abraham a lot. He sometimes called us to ask if we were okay. I never failed to reassure him that we were doing perfectly well and that he did not need to be concerned about us.

I knew Bryan hated me a lot. That was why he made the decision for my brother to keep his distance from me.

“Sophia, are you going for an interview again?” As soon as I descended the stairs, my mother spoke up with a tone that conveyed her disappointment.

My mother always told me not to apply for a job. She advised me to enjoy my life right now, have friends, and study hard.

But I was aware of the reality. Considering the fact that I was an Omega and the pack was bombarded with ravenous wolves, she was worried about my safety.

“Mom, please relax. I am only going to my university. Today, a chief guest is coming. According to our dean, he is trying his best to bring someone important to this event.”

“Oh, who?” her mother asked with a curious tone.

“We don’t know. He said he approached the fairest businessman who could give us direction. Not only that, if that man likes any of our projects, he will give us an opportunity to get an internship in his company.”

“Sophia, you sh-“

“Mom, trust me. I will always be fine. Everyone knows who my brother is. No one will dare disturb Gamma’s sister,” I said and chuckled.

In order to alleviate her anxiety, I gave her a hug while smiling confidently.

But I lied to my mother. Due to the fact that I was in a relationship with Bruce, I never disclosed the fact that my brother was the gamma of this pack. In that case, people might fall into the trap of believing that Bruce was the one who assisted my brother in obtaining the position, which is not true. It was my brother’s abilities and the amount of effort he put in; this is the reason he was able to get the position, which he had nearly lost because of me.

When I arrived at the university, I noticed my friends were outside.

They were my new friends.

The day I caught Luisa cheating with Bruce, I never spoke to her again. To me, she was nothing but a betrayer of my trust.

But Bruce always tried to talk to me. He had been asking for forgiveness for what he had done. He even cut off all the connections with Luisa.

As a result of this, Luisa became really angry with me. She was under the impression that I was the one who had compelled Bruce to avoid her.

Even after trying so hard to convince Bruce to be with her, Bruce never got back to her. It seemed like Bruce had slipped out of Luisa’s hand. So she started to bully me for that.

It was a really terrible experience for me to find that the girl whom I had previously considered to be my best friend turned into my bully.

She always picked on me by spreading lies about me. She told the whole university that I was a gold digger, which was why I was in a relationship with Bruce. After that, everyone started to hate me.

“Sophia”

My friends smiled at me when I stopped in front of them.

“Did you check the presentation?” Sara asked.

I nodded my head. “Yeah. I am going to submit the pen drive and the file to Professor Willson.”

“Okay, you go ahead,” Sara replied, and I walked ahead.

After taking a left turn, I made my way to the cabin of Professor Willson, who was in charge of today’s event.

When I knocked on the door, no one replied. To my surprise, there was no one inside when I opened the door.
