Chapter 10 – His Replica Mate

“We’re sorry, Mummy,” they both said at the same time. It was no use staying mad at them. They meant the apology at that moment, but they’re boys-they were going to do it again.

“It’s okay, just don’t do it again,” I told them.

Karla got on the bed and sat next to her brothers. I sat down too, facing them while Zoey packed.

“What your Aunt Zoey told you is true-we are leaving, but it’s not forever. Just for a short while. We’re going to come back home. It’s like a vacation or a holiday,” I explained, and they all looked confused.

“But where exactly are we going?” Luke asked. Out of the three, he was like a photocopy of Leo. Liam was a mixture of me and his father, while Karla was my photocopy-except for her eyes, which were all Leo’s. By photocopy, I didn’t just mean in appearance; I also meant behavior.

“Well, we’re going to Mummy’s home, where I was born and lived until I came here. Unfortunately, a lot of people are getting sick there, and they need Mummy’s help. So we’re all going to go over there so I can help make them better. Do you guys understand?” I asked. They all nodded slowly as they understood but were still trying to absorb everything.

“Okay then, do you guys have any questions for me?” I asked.

“You said you were born there and that’s where you lived?” Luke asked.

“Yes, baby, that’s correct,” I told him.

“So, is our father there too?” he asked. I have to admit, I was shocked. But as I said, out of the three of them, he was most like his father-which meant he was really smart, too smart for his age.

I looked at Zoey, and she looked shocked. I took a deep breath and turned back to Luke.

“No, my boy, your father isn’t there,” I told him. Immediately, I saw the sad look on all three of their faces-and it was all Leo’s fault. I wasn’t lying to them. Leo was not their father. He rejected them and called them bastards, so he doesn’t deserve that title; he’s nothing more than a sperm donor.

I took their hands in mine.

“Listen to me. I know your dad not being here makes you sad, and if I could, I would bring him to you guys, but I can’t. But don’t forget the one thing I always tell you: your father loves you, and one day, he’ll be back, okay?” I told them.

I told them, even though I knew it was a lie, but if it put a smile on their faces, then I was going to lie.

“Okay, Mummy,” they all said, though they still sounded sad.

“Hmm, who’s ready for the tickle monster?” I shouted.

The three of them screamed and tried to scramble away, but I pinned them down and started tickling them all over. They screamed and laughed. Even Zoey joined in, and soon everyone was laughing, tears running down their faces.

This right here-the laughter from my kids-is the one reason I could never fully hate Leo, because he gave me my kids, my source of joy and happiness in this world. He might have gotten everything wrong, but we made good, beautiful children.

But that is also why he can never know that he’s their father. I won’t let his hate and venom affect them. He would have to kill me first before he got his hands on them.

-Lena’s POV-

We were all packed up, and the kids were excited about the road trip. I decided to drive instead of taking a plane. The drive down was about six hours, and between Zoey and me, it shouldn’t be a problem. The truth is, with a flight, we would’ve gotten there in two hours, plus a thirty-minute drive to the pack, but I wanted to postpone the reunion with Leo for as long as possible.

The kids were buckled up in the back, and Zoey took the passenger seat. I was going to drive for the first three hours, and she would finish the journey. Zoey talked on the phone with Zeo, Leo’s Beta, so they would know to expect us. Zeo said that all my requirements had been met and our house was ready. My lab assistant would be joining us in two days; he still had some things to wrap up.

“Are you ready, kids?” I asked them, managing to sound even a little excited.

“Yes!” Liam shouted.

“Let’s go!” Luke shouted, pumping his fists in the air.

“Wheeee!” Karla exclaimed.

At least they were excited.

“All right then, Moon Shadow Pack, here we come!”

We were currently on the last leg of our journey, and according to the GPS, we had about thirty minutes left. The kids were asleep in the back after a sugar crash from our last stop-we had ice cream sundaes. But me? Nope. My eyes were wide open; I couldn’t sleep even if I wanted to. In thirty minutes, I’d be back in my pack, and in thirty minutes, after six years, I would see Leo again-and Scarlett would be by his side.

“Zoey, what exactly did I agree to do this again?” I asked her, panic clear in my voice.

“Because you’re a good person, and even though you hate Leo, you wouldn’t let innocent people die when you know you can help them. And then there’s also getting your children’s inheritance. Calm down, Lee. Take a few deep breaths and calm yourself,” she told me.

I did as she said because she was right. This isn’t about Leo; this is about my kids and the people who are sick.

“There, that’s better. You don’t need to worry about Leo. It’s been six years. Don’t let him or that bitch Scarlett get to you. You’re a strong and successful woman. You raised three kids, went back to school, and became a successful doctor all on your own. So when you meet him today, it’s going to be with your head held high. They’re the ones who should be ashamed,” she told me.

I smiled and squeezed her hand. “Thank you so much, Zoey, for everything. I couldn’t have done any of this without you-and also for coming with me,” I told her.

“Of course, I’m happy to do it. But I also want to see the look on Leo’s face when he realizes it’s you. It’s going to be so funny, I might even take pictures,” she said, and we both laughed.

-Alpha Leo’s POV-

Doctor Lena is arriving today. For the past few weeks, we’ve done everything she asked. Her house is ready, her lab has been built, and all the equipment has been delivered. Everything is here. The only thing missing is her.

The day before, I informed the council about her arrival. Word had spread, and there was a sense of renewed hope around the pack. I just prayed it wasn’t in vain-that she was the savior we’d been waiting for.

There was a knock on my door, and Zeo came in.

“Any news?” I asked.

“I just got off the phone with them. They said they’re thirty minutes out and that they’d head straight to her house,” he told me.

“Why is that?” I asked.

“They didn’t give a reason, but we should head over there to welcome them,” he said.

“Yeah, you’re right. They’re probably tired from the flight and just want to rest. That’s why they’re going there first. Let’s head out so we can get there before them,” I told him.
