“Still holding a grudge, Cassian?” Killian said with a cold smile. “Still upset over what happened with Alpha Darion from your side?”
Cassian’s jaw clenched. “You beat the hell out of an alpha from my territory like he was trash because of her, huh?””And I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again if he ever steps out of line.”
Dorian took a step forward, his voice low but sharp. “Don’t get ahead of yourself, Killian. Just because you lead the Darkmoon Pack in the West Territory doesn’t mean you’ve already won. No alpha from the West has ever been crowned Alpha King.” He paused, his glare steady. “Ever.”
“And it’s not going to start with you,” Cassian added darkly. “Even if the vote swings your way… there are other ways to stop a king before the crown ever touches his head.”
They exchanged smirks and turned, walking off slowly, the last rays of sunlight glinting off their tailored suits.
Killian and I said nothing.
We just stood there, watching them disappear.
But we both knew one thing.
This wasn’t over.
The real war was only just beginning.
LIANA’S POV
I tried not to let what those men said earlier eat me alive. I didn’t want Killian to see I was still thinking about it. So when he asked, his voice soft and low, “Do you wanna go home or should we just drive around a bit?”
I shook my head quickly and smiled. “No, let’s just go out. Maybe get something to eat or something? I just… I don’t feel like going home yet.”
He nodded like he understood and squeezed my hand. “Eating makes sense.”
He ended up taking me to one of the most expensive restaurants in the city. I didn’t even realize where we were going until we pulled into the private driveway and saw a valet waiting for us. The moment we stepped inside, the receptionist at the front desk bowed slightly, her voice soft and overly respectful. Most of the staff there were obviously from the Darkmoon Pack. They could probably smell our scent, Killian’s especially. It was as if royalty just walked in.
We were ushered in immediately to a table, and Killian’s hand was right on my lower back the entire time, firm and possessive, like he was reminding everyone that I was his and he didn’t plan on sharing. I could feel his warmth through my dress, and it was making me smile.
But then, as we walked toward our table, I saw someone. Simon.
He was seated at a corner table with a really pretty woman. She had long curls, warm brown skin, and a gentle smile, and they looked… good together. For a moment, I paused. I wasn’t expecting to see him, but I was genuinely happy. He looked happy.
He looked up and saw me too, and immediately stood, his face lighting up with that familiar grin. “Liana. Wow, it’s been a while.”
“Simon,” I said, smiling. I glanced at the lady beside him. “Hi, I’m Liana.”
She stood too and smiled warmly, shaking my hand. “Nice to meet you. I’m Zara.”
“Lovely name.”
Killian stood beside me, saying nothing, just nodding stiffly. His jaw was tight, his hand on my back pressing even firmer now, and I could feel the tension rolling off him in waves.
Simon seemed to catch on and chuckled lightly. “You look good, Liana. I’m glad to see you’re doing well.”
“You too. Really.”
We said our quick goodbyes, and Killian practically guided me to our table like a bodyguard escorting a dignitary.
I sat down, trying to stifle my laugh. “You okay?”
He didn’t answer.
A waitress came by, and she wasn’t a werewolf-I could tell because she didn’t carry any scent. And the way she acted? Definitely not pack.
She didn’t bow. She didn’t even acknowledge me. Instead, she bent over so low, her cleavage almost spilled out of her uniform as she handed Killian his menu. Then she practically tossed mine on the table without looking at me.I raised an eyebrow, already fuming.
Killian blinked, stared at her for a second, and then his eyes narrowed. “Do you treat all your female customers like they’re invisible? Or is it just when you’re trying to fuck the guy they’re with?”
The waitress stiffened, her eyes wide.
He pressed the service bell without breaking eye contact. “Get me someone else. Now.”
The head waiter came and quietly led the girl away, already scolding her as they left. I stared at Killian.
“That was intense,” I said.
He looked at me. “She disrespected you. I’m not tolerating that shit.”
I tried to keep a straight face. “You’re mad?”
“No,” I smiled. “Honestly? I’d have been mad if you didn’t do anything.”
We both laughed a little.
Another waitress came, more polite and less flirty, thankfully. She took our order, slow-cooked lamb chops, peppered steak, grilled chicken skewers, spicy meatballs, and a bottle of vintage red wine.
When she left, Killian just kept staring at me.
“What?” I asked, smiling and blushing under his gaze.
He leaned forward a little. “You know this is our first real date alone, right? Like, actual date. No drama, no Ryan, no chaos. Just us.”
I nodded slowly. “Yeah… I guess it is.”
He took my hand across the table. “I’d have said, ‘Tell me more about yourself,’ but honestly, I already know everything I need to know about you.”
I laughed. “Well, I don’t know much about you. Like… your dad. You’ve never really mentioned him.”
Killian looked down for a second, then shrugged. “Because he was a dick. Nothing much to talk about. He was a power-hungry, selfish dick who never gave a damn about anyone but himself.”
“I’m sorry,” I said softly.
“Don’t be. It is what it is. I’m just… I’m glad I have you now.”
I felt my chest warm. “You sure?”
He smiled and nodded, staring at me intensely. “You know… I actually liked you from the first moment I saw you.”
“What?” I chuckled disbelievingly.
“That day at your dad and my mom’s wedding ceremony.”
“What?! I thought you didn’t like me!” I gasped because I remembered that day vividly. “You practically glared at me, showing your dislike before I even came to say hi!”
