I immediately shook my head. “no prosecutor.”
He took a step closer. “You were the last one that saw her.” He reminded me. “You informed me that she would be down here in ten minutes.”
I nodded. “I did… She was in the room with me when she told me that. I don’t understand where she could be… She doesn’t even remember any of us. I don’t understand what could have happened.” I lied.
I could see that he didn’t believe a word I’d just said. However, to my surprise he took a few steps back.
Was he going to drop this so easily? I knew him; there was something else that he was planning to do.
I watched as he called for one of the guards.
“Bring Isabella to the dungeons. She will be punished until she speaks the truth about Eden’s whereabouts.”
I gasped and my eyes widened in horror as the guard started for me. My brothers immediately stepped in front of me, each of them preventing anyone from getting any closer to me. Something unexpected happened right then and everyone was speechless at the sight in front of us.
Hunter was holding the guard by his neck, preventing him from taking another step in my direction. I watched in horror as the veins in his hands became more visible while he continued to choke the man.
“She said that she doesn’t know where her sister is.” He said flatly. “If she doesn’t know… She doesn’t. We’re wasting time here, if we want to find Eden, we must move now.”
The prosecutor lifted a brow at his actions. “Alright … Let the guard go and lead the way.”
Hunter seemed reluctant to do as he was told and with narrowed eyes finally dropped him onto the ground.
Why did he do it? Why did it seem like he was trying to protect me?
I couldn’t think about that now. I had Eden to worry about, I had to hope that she’d somehow gotten far by now.

“no one should be able to find you here.” Arthur informed us. “The only ones that know about this safe house is my family.”
I still found it difficult to be calm around the Blackners when they moved the way that they did but I was grateful that they were helping us. I trusted James; he wouldn’t be here with them unless he was positive that they would protect us.
James nodded. “Thank you.”
My mate exchanged a look of gratitude and if I was correct, it seemed as though they were a lot friendlier with each other now.
I watched as Arthur quietly shut the door behind him and left James and I alone in the house. He turned to me and stared at me as though he didn’t believe that I was standing here in front of him. I wanted to run into his arms and hold him close. All of this felt so unreal to me, being able to be near James like this was a dream of mine. I thought that this day would never come but here he was standing in front of me. The fact that we may actually have a chance together was so much more than I ever hoped for.
“Eden,” he whispered as he knelt before me. “I know what I did in the past was wrong. I’m sorry for hurting you in your most vulnerable state. Believe me, that was never my intention.”
I smiled and knelt down on the ground next to him. “You don’t have to apologize for anything. We’ve both been through a lot James, I think it’s time that we put it all behind us and focus on building our lives… Together.”
His eyes lowered to the mark on my neck. “You have no idea how hard it is to look at this Eden.” He growled. “I want my f*****g mark there, where it should be.”
I gasped, his words mixed with his spicy, masculine scent was enough to awaken deep desires within me. I could hear my breathing grow louder as I tried to focus on his words rather than get lost with my own desperate need for him.
I placed my hand over the marking and gently stroked it.
The council did it deliberately. Even I never liked it. I always wondered what would happen when I saw my mate and how he would feel about it. now I knew exactly what he did and I couldn’t blame him. Even up to this day, I couldn’t believe that James was truly my mate and that he wanted me as much as he did.
Despite the disgusting people that I belonged to, he never showed fear. He always fought for me, since the very beginning. And the one time that he decided to stop, it was only because he wanted to protect me.
I was blessed with a good mate. I’d known people in the council before, women who had mates and were still forced to marry who the council chose for them. And their mates chose to let them go when they found out about the council. no one was brave enough to fight back; they all gave up when it got too hard.
But James was brave and proved how good of a mate he really was.
I lifted myself from the ground and positioned my body on top of his lap. His eyes widened. “Eden, what are you doin-“
I didn’t wait for him to finish. I leaned into him and covered his lips with mine. I kissed him softly at first; enjoying the taste of the man I loved and wanted to spend the rest of my life with. His body stiffened for a few seconds until his hands gripped my waist and pulled me tighter against him. James g*****d and deepened the k**s. I couldn’t stop myself as I grinded my a*s against his hardness, I’d never been as hot and needy as I was now. I needed him like I needed air to breathe.
“Mark me,” I whispered. “Please mark me.”
I didn’t know why I said it, all I knew was that I needed to get as close to James as possible. I felt like I would combust into flames if he didn’t claim me soon.
I watched as his eyes went from calm to shock and then straight to raw need and hunger. I felt myself grow wet between the legs with just the look on his face alone, I was swollen there and wanted to be touched by him so badly that it hurt.
His nostrils flared as my aroused scent hit the air and before I had a chance to figure out his next move, he placed one hand behind my head and pulled my feet down until I was lying flat on the wooden floor.
My eyes widened and for some reason it only made my body more hot and needy for him. Both of us were breathing hard, neither one of us speaking. Our bodies said everything our mouths wanted to.
I gasped as his lips left a trail of k****s from my neck to my chest. I felt my breathing fasten as his lips neared my breasts.
“I’ve been dreaming of doing this since the last time Eden.” He growled before he tore the wedding dress, leaving my breasts bare to him. Before I had a chance to recover he took one of my n*****s into his mouth and sucked hard. I arched my back giving him more access to my breasts. James moved like a hungry beast as he continued to suck on my n*****s, switching from one to the other.
