Chapter 120 – Falling for the Last Lycan Novel

“It has been a month since your father left, but the warriors have not ready yet? Who would believe that?” Dacre narrowed his eyes dangerously this time.

“The journey back to Wolfdale Kingdom took two weeks, it meant, my father only arrived for two weeks, more so there are a lot of things that he has to prepare before he sent out half of our warriors to help. Please, have faith in my father. He is not going back on his own word.”

Dacre tried to find any sign, a reason to doubt her, but he couldn’t. Rose looked genuine with her promised.

“Logan still has not yet marked you, what happened?” Dacre changed the topic. He changed his tactic and his approach on her.

Despite Rose’s effort to hide her barren neck from Logan’s mark, she couldn’t hide it from the king, he could see it clearly that Logan had not yet marked her. Hell, he didn’t even touch her and every time they were together, he would always look very angry with her, as if he resented her.

Rose couldn’t understand why he was like that, it was not like the two of them entered this union based on their desire. It was only a formality. Dacre wanted to tie down Wolfdale kingdom even more with her union to one of his alphas.

“It’s… there’s an internal problem,” Rose said without offering any detail.

She was a little bit embarrassed and Dacre must have seen that. The king simply nodded. “Do you want me to talk to him?”

“No, my king. Thank you for the offer, but I think it will be best if I handled it on my own.”

Dacre nodded again, acknowledged her words. “Do you need anything else?”

Rose was not sure what Dacre wanted. He knew that she didn’t want to be with Logan, though she didn’t say it out loud, but the union happened anyway and now he was being generous to ask what she wanted.

“No, my king.” Rose shook her head.

After that, they discussed a little bit more about the detail of the ambush that they would lay in Little Red town.

And while they were waiting for her father’s warrior, she offered to use all of her resources. Rose would use her guild as a resource.

Dacre looked pleased when he heard that. With this, he wouldn’t think Wolfdale kingdom would deflect when his position was not in favor anymore.

“You can leave now,” Dacre said, as he dismissed Rose, but then he talked a little bit more before she walked out of the room. “I think that’s a wise decision to stay unmarked. You don’t know what will happen in the battlefield.”

The indication of what he said was very clear. Rose wouldn’t know when she was going to lose Logan. That was the ominous thing about war, nobody knew when death came to them.

When Rose left the room and walked in this empty hallway, she saw Logan had been waiting for her at the end of it. He had his back against her, leaning his body against one of the pillars with his arms crossed.

But, when she got closer, he turned around and looked at her, she met his eyes briefly before she averted her gaze and when she reached him, Logan simply walked beside her silently, as if he was there to escort her.

They were going back to the pack house because Logan had to make preparation to leave for Little Red town.

“Are you waiting for me?” Rose asked with a frown when she walked beside him.

“What did you talk about with the king?”

Rose had expected this question. “Nothing. Only a few more detail about the ambush.”

Logan scoffed when he heard that. “The king has a lot of men, who could suggest him about the war plan, but he asked your suggestion?”

“Because I am resourceful,” Rose replied plainly, she was a little bit hurt because Logan underestimated him, though that was not what he meant. It was understandable if your mate was upset when you talked alone with another man in a closed room. “The king needs the support from Wolfdale Kingdom and I am the bridge between him and my father.”

Logan said nothing after that and they walked in silence, until they heard a commotion from afar and someone rushed toward them, his expression was vicious and calculated, but you couldn’t mistake the killing intent in his eyes. Especially when he shifted into his beast.

Out of instinct, Logan shifted into his beast too and met him halfway before he could reach Rose, since she was the easier target.

Everything happened so fast, there was a loud growl, bones breaking and then blood that spilled on the ground when it was over.

Rose was too stunned to speak when she watched the attacker twitched on the ground, shifting back into his human form, his body covered in blood and wounds.

“Are you, okay?”

Logan came to her view, covering the gory sight of the other man, while two warriors rushed to the scene and take care of it.

“Look at me,” Logan demanded. His voice was gentle, but firm. “Are you, okay?”

Rose could only nod. She was too shock. Logan was so fierce when he was fighting and he was so close to kill the other man.

“Wh- what happened?” Rose stuttered, but Logan had turned her body around to prevent her from staring at the scene longer.

“They caught one of alpha Khaos’s spies, he tried to escape,” Logan explained briefly.

Rose glanced at him, he looked calm. He had his arm around her shoulder, a protective gesture. A moment ago, this man was so fierce, he could have ripped the other man’s heart out, but right now, his touch was comforting.

“I will assign warrior for you once we returned,” Logan said grimly.

Rose simply nodded again, but when she took a glance at him she flinched when she saw traces of blood on Logan that she didn’t notice before.

Logan noticed her reaction too, thus he removed his arm from her shoulder and they walked together to the carriage that had been waiting for them.

Zuri got another letter from Khaos, he always wrote to her, twice or even thrice a week with the progress, or some time, his letter would fill with idle thing, talking about how he found a black rabbit and it reminded him of her, but then he contradicted it, saying that the rabbit was too tame compared to her. Whatever that meant…

Zuri found solace in his letter, it kept her grounded, but obviously it wouldn’t last for long because she was in desperate need to see him. Her hallucination returned…

‘Writing to him again? I see… don’t you know man has need and the battlefield is one of the places, where you can find easy woman to sleep with? The night will be so cold and man needs to warm their bed.’

Xaden chuckled viciously, but this time, it was not his voice that was in her head, but she could see him. She could see that man perching on the windowsill, staring at her with his judging eyes, smirking derisively when Zuri wrote a letter for Khaos.

Her hands were trembling, her handwritten looked so ugly. She didn’t know whether it was because of her fear or if it was because of anger, but she wanted to shut him up.

‘Oh, please Zuri, don’t pretend as if you don’t see me. You hurt my feeling, you know? I know that you can hear me. I know that you can see me, there is no running away from me and you know that.’ Xaden cooed. ‘Oh, poor Zuri. Poor my little mate.’

“I am not your mate!” Zuri threw the quill toward his direction and it hit his chest before it dropped to the floor. But then, the quill might collide against the wall, since there was no way, this hallucination had a solid body on his own. “SHUT UP!”

Her whole body was trembling now. She tried to breath through the tension, her veins were pulsating, as her heart was thumping like a drum against her ears.

‘Don’t be mad.’ Xaden looked amused with Zuri’s reaction. ‘You are my mate and you know that. I was the first man, who had put mark on your neck. It’s a pity that you got rid of my mark and now got that ugly one from him. But, it’s okay, I forgive you, because I love you.’ Xaden chuckled. He mocked her.

“I don’t need your forgiveness!” Zuri marched toward him, her claws elongated, she was ready to claw him. She wished he had solid body, so she could hurt him. So, she could torture him. So, he could feel a little bit of pain that she had to endure all this time.

‘Tell me what do you need from me? Do you miss to be fucked by me? I know Khoas is not that good, right? I know that you missed our moment together. Come. Come to me.’ Xaden opened his arms, he welcomed her when Zuri raised her hand to claw his face.
