“Why did you leave without telling me anything?” He growled before gripping the back of my head and tugging softly on my hair. I was surprised by how gentle he was being despite the anger radiating off his body.
“Because you wouldn’t let me leave.” I accused.
His eyes narrowed. “You know why I did it. It was to protect you!”
“nothing was going to stop me from seeing my sisters Hunter.”
He pulled me tighter against him. “You should have left a note for me at least. I’ve been restless following your scent all over only to find dead ends each time. You did good to hide your scent from me and I’m not happy about it. Did you try to lead me somewhere else?”
I hid the grin. “I knew that you would find me easily if I just stayed one place. So I made sure to visit multiple places and tell the people there to mislead you. It seems like they did a good job at it.”
Maybe I shouldn’t have said that because his eyes darkened a few shades. “I almost killed someone today because he wouldn’t tell me in which direction you went … Don’t ever play with me like that.”
for the first time tonight I felt guilty for putting him through that. But he left me no choice! If I had travelled straight here, he would have followed my scent and got to me before I could have even reached the palace. He already knew that this was where I would have wanted to come for my sister’s wedding, so I knew I had to throw him off a little.
Before I could say anything else his lips crashed down on mine in a possessive k**s. I held onto his shoulders and tried to catch my breath. Hunter shamelessly gripped my a*s in his hands and grinded his h**s against mine. If his mouth wasn’t on mine I would have surely cried out at the pleasure.
My cheeks were burning when he pulled away from me. I couldn’t believe he just kissed me in front of everyone. I could feel many eyes on us and I tried not pay attention to any of them.
“You didn’t have to do that in front of everyone.” I snapped.
“What?” He asked passionately. “K**s my wife?”
I narrowed my eyes. “Apparently I’m only your wife when it’s convenient for you.”
He didn’t respond, instead he guided me away from the dance floor when the music stopped and it was then did I find my entire family just standing watching us with a look of disbelief on each of their faces. I was positive that they’d also seen the k**s between us.
“It’s nice of you to join us as well Hunter. We were worried when we saw Isabella alone here without anyone to escort her.” Lucy said. It looked like she was trying to be as nice as she could but there was still an edge to her voice.
“If I’m being honest, I did not want to be here.” Hunter growled. “I don’t know if your sister told you but her life has been put in danger multiple times already. In one case, she fell off a cliff. I didn’t want her to leave my side in order to protect her, instead she chose to disobey me and come all the way over here completely by herself. Did she tell you that?”
My eyes widened. Why on earth would he tell these things to my sisters?
“no she didn’t.” Eden said as she turned to me with a look of disapproval on her face.
“Please excuse us for a second.” I said as I grabbed Hunter’s arm and tried to pull him away from my family.
“Why would you tell them that?”
“If I can’t put some sense into your head I was hoping that your family would be able to do it.” He hissed.
I crossed my hands over my chest and glared at him. His eyes travelled down my body and I shivered from the intensity from that one heated trail of his eyes. “Let’s go.”
My eyes widened. “I want to stay longer with my siblings. I miss them.”
“I’m not going to have this discussion here Isabella. All of my men are in the forest waiting for my call. Don’t make me use force.”
I couldn’t believe him! I should have expected nothing else from him. I knew that this wasn’t open for discussion and so I made my way back to my family.
“I’m sorry but I can’t stay.” I apologized.
They all took one look at Hunter and didn’t try to stop me from leaving.
“You can visit me … I’ll be happy to see all of you in my new home.” I told them. I glanced at Hunter and he didn’t try to stop me. I’d said it to mess with him but he didn’t seem to have a problem with it.
“We will be sure to visit you Isabella.” Lucy and Eden said as they pulled me in for another hug. “Please take care of yourself. Don’t put your life in danger anymore!”
I nodded. “I won’t.”
I didn’t think it was possible now. After tonight, Hunter would not let me out of his sight.
It was time to head back home … My new home.
***MAGGIE***
“What do you mean he’s falling in love?” I demanded. Her words weren’t making any sense to me. Hunter and I were mates, we weren’t bonded mates thanks to me preventing him from ever marking me but we were mates nevertheless. He used to look at me as though I was the only woman in this entire universe. I also saw how broken he was after my fake death, I’d never seen a man look so pathetic and lost in my life and I was living just to see that look on his face.
“Yes, he’s falling in love with that woman he recently got married to.”
I froze and spun around to face her. “Married to?”
Exactly how many things happened while I was vacationing with Jake? Hunter got remarried? That’s simply impossible, the man couldn’t even stand the sight of another woman that wasn’t me, then why did he decide to get married?
“Who is she?” I asked before I could stop myself. I wanted to curse at the jealousy I instantly felt at the thought of him with another woman. Despite the fact that I hated Hunter for his past deeds, I couldn’t deny the mate pull. Even though I didn’t want to feel this jealousy, it couldn’t be helped.
“Her name is Isabella Cross. She belonged to the black council. I’m sure you heard about the Cross brothers before, they’re her brothers.” She answered without a second thought.
