Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 141 – From Substitute to Queen (Sable & Caelan) Novel Free Online by Hannah Moore

The lead escort shrugged with professional indifference. “Since the boyfriend showed up, we won’t intrude.”

He winked at Sable. “Little beauty, if you change your mind, you can find us anytime.”

The group melted back into the crowd.

Scarlett shoved Peter’s arm away with both hands. “What’s your problem? Who said you’re my boyfriend?”

Fire blazed in her eyes. “What business is it of yours if I hire male escorts?”

Peter found himself backed against the wall by her fury. The truth burst out before he could stop it.

“Because I like you! I’m fucking in love with you, Scarlett!”

Scarlett’s eyes went wide. Her mouth dropped open. She stood frozen like she’d been struck by lightning.

The alcohol had cleared slightly from Sable’s system during the emotional chaos. She blinked and recognized the familiar figure.

“Peter?”

Hope sparked in her voice immediately. “Is he…is he here too?”

Peter shook his head firmly. “No, Sable. I came alone. I was worried about you both, so I came to pick you up.”

The tiny flame of hope in Sable’s eyes died instantly. She laughed bitterly, reaching for another bottle on the bar. She tilted it directly to her lips, the liquor making her cough and sputter.

I knew it…why would he be here…”

She drank between gasping breaths, her voice becoming more broken with each word. “He’s probably with Elena right now…”

“Cuddling with her…holding her…doing all the things he used to do with me…”

Her voice cracked completely. I’m such a joke…thinking he might come looking for me…”

Scarlett snapped out of her shock at Peter’s confession and lunged for the bottle in Sable’s hands.

“Sable, stop drinking! You’ve had enough!

“You’ll get alcohol poisoning if you keep this up!”

After finishing the entire bottle, Sable began swaying dangerously on her feet. She stood up unsteadily and pointed toward a dark corner of the club.

“No…he’s here…I can see him…Caelan’s over there…”

Her voice grew louder, more desperate. “He’s in that corner watching me!”

Sable’s control shattered completely. She began crying out across the club.

“Caelan! I know you’re here!”

“Come out! Stop hiding! Can we just talk?”

Scarlett and Peter tried frantically to calm her down. “Sable, please, there’s nobody here…”

In his shadowy booth, Caelan sat perfectly still as each of Sable’s calls pierced through him like knives. His eyes had turned red- rimmed with unshed tears.

“Sabi…I’m right here…I’ve been here the whole time…”

But he forced himself to remain motionless, every muscle locked in place.

Peter was torn between comforting the distraught Sable and keeping worried glances toward Caelan’s booth. He leaned close to Scarlett.

“We need to get her home. Now.”

Around them, other club patrons began staring and whispering.

“That girl’s wasted…”

“Who’s she calling for? She’s being so loud…”

In an unnoticed corner of the club, a figure wearing a baseball cap held up a phone. The camera captured every moment of Sable’s emotional breakdown-her tears, her desperate calls for Caelan, her complete vulnerability.

After recording everything, the mysterious figure quickly typed and sent a message, then slipped out of the club like a shadow, leaving no trace behind.

Darrell left the bar, slid into the driver’s seat and pulled the door shut. But before he could start the engine, his phone erupted into its familiar ringtone.

He glanced at the screen. A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he swiped to answer.

‘Lucian.’

Laughter exploded from the speaker, rich with mockery and twisted delight. “Ha ha ha! Darrell, you really sent me quite the gift tonight.”

Darrell settled back against his seat, adopting a casual tone. “How’s that?”

“I was beginning to think that Sable Crawford had something truly special about her,” Lucian continued, his voice dripping with amusement. “Something that could drive the mighty Lycan King to madness. But what do I find instead?” He paused for dramatic effect. “Nothing but discarded garbage that men grow tired of and toss aside! The sight of her pathetic state made me sick to my stomach.

Darrell’s grip tightened on the phone, but he kept his voice level. So what’s your next move?”

“Since Caelan already kicked her to the curb, I see no point in wasting energy monitoring some washed-up woman, Lucian said with obvious satisfaction. A fallen favorite has no value whatsoever.” His tone shifted, becoming more amused. “Though I have to admit, Darrell, I’m genuinely impressed by your devotion. I never imagined I’d encounter such a foolish man willing to pick up Caelan’s leftovers. Pathetic romantics like you are practically extinct these days. You’re truly a miracle of this world.”

You bastard, Darrell thought, his jaw clenching. How dare you insult Sable like that. When I’m done with you, you’ll pay for every single word you spoke tonight.

But aloud, he seized the opportunity. “You’re absolutely right. Speaking of which, Lucian, you should still be careful these days.”

Alert crept into Lucian’s voice. “What do you mean? Have you heard something?

“I received information that Caelan has intensified his hunt for you. He’s deployed elite tracking teams, and… Darrell let his words trail off deliberately.

“And what? Lucian pressed, his voice sharp with urgency. “Speak up!”

Darrell paused for effect, building the suspense. “They’ve already locked onto the Silver Moon Valley area. I heard a twelve-man tracking squad searched that region all night yesterday.”

Suddenly, Lucian burst into uncontrolled laughter. “Silver Moon Valley? Ha ha ha ha! He is getting dumber by the day!

Darrell feigned confusion. “Why do you say that? Aren’t you somewhere in that vicinity?”

“I figured he’d look in that direction eventually,” Lucian boasted, his voice brimming with superiority. “Silver Moon Valley doesn’t even contain my shadow! That moron is barking up completely the wrong tree.

“Then where are you now…” Darrell began, fishing for more information.

Lucian cut him off, his tone suffused with arrogance. I’m somewhere Caelan could never dream of finding

Darrell adopted a worried tone. “That sounds mysterious. But even the safest hideouts can be discovered eventually if you stay too long. Have you considered relocating?”

“Relocate?” Lucian snorted with disdain. “Why would I relocate? My current location is the world’s most secure refuge. His voice took on a gleeful quality. “The place appears dangerous but is actually the safest possible. You see, I’m surrounded entirely by dead people. Ha ha ha ha. Dead people can’t exactly jump up and betray me, can they?”

Darrell’s mind raced as he tried to decode Lucian’s words. Dead people… surrounded by the dead… He has to mean some kind of cemetery or burial ground. But which one?

“I see… that’s certainly a clever choice, he managed.

Lucian’s tone suddenly shifted, becoming suspicious. “Wait a minute. Why are you asking so many questions? You’re not planning to sell out my location, are you?”

Darrell quickly denied the accusation. “How could I possibly do that? We’re allies, and I’m just concerned about your safety. Besides, we’re tied together now. Why would I betray you?” He paused, then added with calculated sincerity, “My goal has already been achieved-Sable and Caelan have completely broken up, and soon she’ll return to my arms. I have no reason to betray you.”

Satisfaction colored Lucian’s response. “At least you still have some conscience. But you need to be careful too. Don’t let Caelan discover our connection.”

“Of course, I’ll be extremely cautious,” Darrell assured him. “Take care of yourself, and contact me if you need anything.”

After ending the call, Darrell remained in his car, a victorious smile spreading across his face. His fingers drummed against the steering wheel as pieces of his plan fell into place.

Caelan and Sable are finished. Now it’s time to eliminate all remaining obstacles. First, I’ll deal with Lucian and remove that threat permanently. Then I can focus completely on winning Sable back. Without Caelan’s interference and without Lucian’s schemes, she’ll finally understand that I’m the only one who truly loves and protects her.

He started the engine, his smile widening as he pulled away from the curb. Everything was proceeding exactly according to plan.

Caelan’s POV

Peter grabbed Sable’s left arm while Scarlett took her right, both struggling to keep her upright as they made their way across the parking lot. She could barely stand, swaying between them like a rag doll soaked in tequila.
