His other hand traced the curve of my jaw. “I thought if I made you believe I’d moved on, you could finally let go and find real happiness…”
The pain in his voice broke something inside me. More tears spilled over.
“You self-righteous idiot!” I slammed my fist against his chest.
He didn’t even flinch, just watched me with those guilt-ridden blue eyes.
I hit him again. “Do you know what I went through! How much it hurt to think you didn’t love me anymore!”
My strikes were getting weaker as emotion overwhelmed me.
“I cried myself to sleep every night! I thought I’d lost you forever!”
I shoved at his shoulders, but there was no real force behind it.
“You arrogant ass! You think carrying everything alone makes you some kind of hero?”
My voice broke completely. “We promised to face everything together! You said you’d never leave me! You liar!”
Tears streamed down my face as I continued. “You made me hate you for so long I thought I was losing my mind! Do you know how much it hurts to hate someone you love with every fiber of your being?”
My knees felt weak. “And your father… oh god, Caelan, how did you survive all of that by yourself?”
I looked up at him through my tears. “Do you think I’m some kind of helpless damsel? I don’t need your protection! I don’t need you making decisions for me ‘for my own good’! Did you ever think to ask what I wanted? I don’t need you to break up with me and then parade fake girlfriends around to make me give up! The pain of losing you was a thousand times worse than anything Lucian could have done to me! I’m afraid of death, but I’m more afraid of losing you! And you, you arrogant prick, you had to put on that whole show with someone else to make me think-if I’d known you were this kind of person, I never would have agreed to mar-“
Caelan grabbed my hands and yanked me forward, his mouth crashing down on mine.
His tongue pushed past my lips, demanding and desperate. One hand tangled in my hair while the other pressed against the small of my back, holding me so tightly I could barely breathe.
He kissed me like he was trying to devour me, like he could swallow all my words and pain and anger.
“Don’t you dare say you won’t marry me,” he growled against my lips, then dove back in for another fierce kiss. “Don’t you ever say you don’t want to be with me.”
His mouth moved over mine with increasing urgency, stealing whatever protests I might have had left.
I grabbed Caelan’s shirt, pulling him closer with an intensity that surprised even me. The frustration, longing, and relief all crashed together into something undeniable and urgent.
He backed me toward the sofa, his hands firm on my waist.
My legs hit the edge of the cushions, and I fell backward, Caelan following. His weight pressed me into the soft leather.
I wasn’t ready to surrender so easily. With one quick movement, I flipped our positions, straddling him. His eyes widened in surprise.
“My turn,” I said, my fingers working the buttons of his shirt.
Caelan propped himself up on his elbows, watching me with darkened eyes. “I missed this fire.”
I tugged his shirt open, revealing his chest. “You don’t get to miss things you choose to leave behind.”
He sat up suddenly, our faces inches apart. “I never left you behind,” he whispered, hands sliding under my blouse. “Not for a second.”
My blouse hit the floor next to his shirt. The cool air raised goosebumps across my skin, or maybe it was the heat in his gaze as he took me in.
Caelan’s breathing quickened. His hands traced down my spine, stopping at my waist. With one swift motion, he pulled me closer, eliminating any space between us.
I gasped as his lips found my neck, teeth grazing the sensitive skin of my collarbone. My head fell back, fingers tangling in his hair, gripping tightly. Part of me feared he might vanish again if I didn’t hold on.
“Caelan, I breathed.
He moved suddenly, turning me around. I found myself on my knees facing away from him, the sofa cushions soft beneath me. His arms encircled me from behind, lips exploring the sensitive spot behind my ear that always made me shiver.
His fingers found their way between my legs, skilled and deliberate. I couldn’t stop the sounds that escaped me as he touched me exactly how I needed.
“Let me hear you, he murmured against my shoulder.
Our remaining clothes disappeared in a blur of movements. I climbed back onto his lap, facing him this time. Our eyes locked as our bodies joined.
“Ahh, I cried out, adjusting to the feeling of him filling me again after so long.
I moved slowly, deliberately, my body having its own conversation with his. Each rise and fall was both accusation and acceptance; I was angry at his secrets but couldn’t deny how much I’d craved this connection.
His hands gripped my hips, guiding my movements. His chest rose and fell rapidly with heavy breaths.
“Baby. My Sabi. I’ve missed you so much,” Caelan said, voice rough with emotion.
I made a noncommittal sound, followed by small, broken moans as he suddenly thrust upward, quickening our pace.
“Slow down, Caelan,” I managed between breaths.
“Hmm, what did you call me?” A smirk played on his lips. “Baby.”
“Caelan. Jerk. Liar,” I shot back, even as my body betrayed my harsh words.
He laughed softly but drove into me harder. “Wrong answer. Call me husband. Then I’ll go slower. Okay, baby?”
“Husband… ahh!” My words dissolved into cries as he hit exactly the right spot.
“I love you, baby,” Caelan declared.
In one fluid motion, he lifted me up and carried me to the plush rug. We tumbled down together, with me on my back and him hovering above, arms braced on either side of my head. His kiss transformed from desperate to tender, a different kind of intensity.
He guided me onto my side, positioning himself behind me. One arm wrapped around my waist while his other hand captured my wrist, gently pulling my arm behind me. The subtle restraint sent electricity through my body.
My moans came in fragments as he set a rhythm that had my body responding on its own. I’d already climaxed once, but he clearly wasn’t finished,
Caelan pulled me to my feet, backing me against the living room wall. I wrapped my legs around his waist as he supported my weight. The cold wall against my back contrasted sharply with the heat of our bodies, heightening every sensation.
Our movements grew more frantic, our breathing intertwined. My arms encircled his neck, holding on as if he were my only anchor.
When release came, we trembled together. I rested my head on his shoulder, tears sliding down my cheeks and onto his skin.
My legs felt like jelly. Every muscle in my body had turned to liquid, and I could barely keep myself upright.
“I feel like my legs are completely gone…” I whispered against his chest, my voice weak and breathless.
Caelan pressed a gentle kiss to the top of my head. “Then let me take care of you.”
He scooped me up effortlessly, one arm beneath my knees and the other supporting my back. My head lolled against his shoulder as he carried me toward the bathroom.
The warm tiles felt cool against my bare feet when he set me down. I leaned heavily against the marble counter, watching him through half-closed eyes as he turned on the shower. Steam began rising from the cascading water.
Caelan tested the temperature with his hand, adjusting until it was perfect. Then he turned back to me, his eyes soft with concern.
“Can you stand?”
I nodded, though my legs still trembled. He stepped into the shower first, then guided me under the warm spray.
The water felt like heaven against my overheated skin. I closed my eyes and let it wash over me. Caelan’s hands were gentle as he reached for the soap, lathering it between his palms.
“Turn around,” he murmured.
I obeyed, letting him wash my back with slow, reverent strokes. His fingers traced every curve, every line, as if he was memorizing my body all over again. The intimacy of it made my breath catch.
When I turned to face him again, water dripped from his dark hair into those incredible blue eyes. Without thinking, I reached up to brush the droplets away.
That’s when he kissed me. Soft at first, then deeper as I melted into him.
My back hit the cool tile wall as his body pressed against mine. The contrast between the warm water and the cold surface made me gasp.
“Caelan…”
“I need you again,” he said against my lips. “I can’t get enough of you.”
His hands gripped my hips, lifting me slightly. I wrapped my legs around his waist, anchoring myself to him as he entered me slowly.
God, yes,
The water cascaded around us, mixing our gasps and moans with the sound of the spray hitting tile. My nails dug into his shoulders as he moved within me, each thrust making me arch against the wall.
