“Take the girl to the hospital” Our father ordered, to the healer, Peter, who was hovering near my father.
“May I, Luna?’ He held out his hands and Kat nodded, and allowed Lilah to be lifted from her arms, and removed from the room.
“What did you see in her memories?” I asked, as I helped Maddie to her feet. She looked drained, and swayed slightly, so I quickly held her arms.
“Everyone step back please” Maddie asked everyone, as she moved to the wall in between myself and Jax “I’ll show you”
Maddie held out her hands in front of her, and every one gasped in shock, as her hands began to glow, and images began to appear in front of us, it was as if someone had turned on a projector, and a horrific scene started to play out in front of us.
Children were running and screaming in fear, as loud crashing sounds came from outside the bedroom. One of the carers, Nigel, who was lying dead, only meters from me, was trying to gather the children to protect them. He’d managed to push open the secret panel in the fireplace, and ordered Lilah to go first because she was already bleeding badly.
Lilah had managed to get inside, when a large werewolf came racing into the room, the likes of which I’d never seen before. It was as big a Lycan, but most definitely a werewolf, but there was something off about it’s eyes, that glowed white, and it seemed to have some kind of dragon-like scales around its neck.
The children started screaming and begging for mercy as they were ripped apart, it was difficult to watch, and the images began to flicker in and out of existence.
I looked at Maddie who had tears running down her face, she was losing control of her ability because of her emotional state, so I moved behind her, and hugged her tightly for support. My plan worked. The images strengthened, and we were able to see the rest.
Nigel tried to protect the children, but his throat was cut, leaving him to bleed out. While the children were killed, Lilah, was crying, and curled up in the corner of the fireplace, but then everything went black, as she closed her eyes.
Maddie closed her hands and slumped in my arms, she’d used far to much power.
“Madelyn needs to rest” My father shocked us, by stating concern “Take her home, Ryker, send out a search party for this boy, I want him found”
I lifted Madelyn, who closed her eyes as she fell into an exhausted slumber.
JAXSON’S POV
“Take Madelyn home” I said, as I gently kissed her forehead “And tell Molly to light the fire, she’s freezing”
“I’ll take care of it. What are you going to do?”
“I’ll go with Ryker to organize the search party and then we have to speak with his daughter” I told him.
“Speak to her about what?” Ryker asked, curiously staring at us “Blake had nothing to do with this attack!”
“That’s not why I want to talk to her” I retorted.
“Then what do you want to talk to her about?” Our father asked.
“Thanks to your damn Beta” Koda snapped, and glared at him “Maddie knows about the transfusion, and she’s agreed to allow it’
“Really, that’s wonderful” Ryker smiled, but I growled at him, and he fell silent.
“This is good” Dad nodded, and looked at Madelyn “We need Fenrir and Troy found. Madelyn has made the right choice, we can’t stand another attack like this”
“If this was Troy or Fenrir, then what was the point?” Koda asked, as he re-adjusted, to make our mate more comfortable “Why send a child to us to kill all these children”
“It may have something to do with the missing pack members” Lucy suggested ‘We have Lilah back, but Silvia and Kathy are still missing. Maybe Prince Fenrir wants them for some reason?”
“Unless that thing ate them” Ryker commented.
“Oh goddess no” Lucy gasped sadly.
“Maybe they were just seeing if they could get this thing passed us without detection” Cole suggested.
“For what reason though?” I asked.
My father looked at Madelyn again “Troy has your mate’s blood” He pointed out “They might be using it to attempt to re-create the werewolf spell from memory, and wanted to see if we’d detect this hybrid trash”
“Well they f*cked it up, if that was their intent” I looked at Madelyn who moaned, and shifted slightly “Take her home, and clean this blood off her”
“We’ll talk later” Koda left with our girl, so I turned to Ryker.
“Are you ready?”
“I’ll write up my report and bring it to your office after we speak with Blake” Ryker bowed to my father and followed after Koda.
“Lucy go back to the tower and work with my mother’s assistant, Beth for the funeral preparations. We’ll hold them tomorrow’ I told told “I want to speak with the King alone for a moment”
“Yes sir” She said, before turning and bowing to the King.
Once we were alone, I glared at my father “I would appreciate you not talking about my mate’s blood being the key to this creature while we’re in public” I said angrily, and his eyes darkened in response “There’s no privacy spell, any of the guards could have heard you”
“This isn’t your pack yet Jaxson” He reminded me for like the millionth time “I will talk about what ever and whom ever I want, and speaking of the pack transfer, your mother and I have spoken with the council, we have decided to wait until the situation with Fenrir has been dealt with, before you and Koda take the crown”
“Excuse me!” I stepped closer to him, but he didn’t seem fazed “You can’t decide that!”
“Actually I can” He crossed his arms.
“We were meant to have the throne next week!” I gritted my teeth angrily.. don’t punch him… do not punch him.. “You are meant to get the crown, a month after meeting your mate, is this why you have been avoiding this conversation?”
“Actually, it’s a month after the marking” He corrected “Which is usually done the moment you meet your mate, but you and Koda didn’t do that until 9 days after meeting your girl, so it was over two weeks from now, not next week anyway”
“Hilarious” I snapped “But we are not waiting!”
“Yes you are!”.
“I will challenge you if I have to” I warned him.
My father growled, and grabbed me by the throat, and slammed me into the wall so hard that I felt the wood crack. I growled, and punched him in the face, something I had never done, but my father threw up his knee, and hit me directly in the ribs, and I coughed as the wind blew.
He threw me down on the ground, but I jumped up, with my claws out, when the guards came running in, and surrounded my father.
“Come at me Jaxson” He growled “And I will not let you get up next time”
“YOU LET ME UP?!” I screamed “I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU TRY AND KEEP ME DOWN, YOU POWER HUNGRY BA!”
“JAXSON ENOUGH!” My father shouted, using his command to cut me off.
I tried to fight it, but he was still King, and his command was stronger than mine, causing me to cringe back “Leave us!” He added, and the guards bowed and left the room.
My heart was racing, and my breathing labored. I wanted nothing more than to rip his throat out, but I took a breath and retracted my claws.
“I understand that you and Koda are Alpha’s, and as such, it’s difficult for you both to be beneath me” Dad told me, as he pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket, and wiped the blood from his nose. I took great satisfaction in knowing I’d probably broken or fractured his nose “But that is the way things are, I am not keeping the throne because I’m power hungry, or because I don’t have faith in my sons, because I do, but I know my brother better than you do, and you and Koda can not defeat him, you have to think about our people and not your own greed”
“My greed!” I snapped “Who was demanding my mate’s golden threat to get her power”
“TO PROTECT US ALL” He shouted at me, making me want to hit him again “NOT TO GAIN MORE POWER, JUST GO TALK TO BLAKE AND CALM DOWN!”
