And his smirk disappeared.
Good.
I wanted him unsure. Confused. Wanting.
Because I was.
More than I’d ever admit.
KAI POV
I felt his stare before I even looked up.
It burned into the back of my neck like a brand. Hot. Heavy. Unrelenting.
And I hated it.
Because it made my skin itch, my heart race, and my stomach twist into stupid little knots that had no business being there. It made me hyper-aware of my body in the worst kind of way-like every breath I took was suddenly too loud, every step too clumsy, every thought… polluted.
‘He’s watching again,’ Summer purred in the back of my mind, practically panting. ‘Goddess, I hope he never stops.’
‘Shut up.’
But she was right. Of course she was. That scent was unmistakable. Derrick.
The only id.iot on campus who could make my inner wolf crawl out of her skin with a single glance. Okay maybe not the only one. Dalton too.
And I hated them for it.
‘Liar,’ Summer whispered.
I clenched my jaw and kept my head down, pretending to scroll through the same blank page on my tablet for the last ten minutes. Useless. My skin was buzzing. Prickling. My spine straightened on instinct. I could feel him. Somewhere to my left. Too close. Watching me like I was a puzzle he wanted to tear open and scatter across the floor.
I had half a mind to throw something at him.
The other half?
It was busy remembering what he looked like shirtless.
Or naked.
Or on top of me.
Damn.
‘Thanks for that, I growled at Summer.
She didn’t even try to hide her smirk. ‘You’re welcome. I want to see what that mouth can do.
And I think you do too.”
‘He’s straight, I hissed,” he thinks I’m a damn guy!”
‘He’s hard, she countered, low and pleased. ‘That’s what matters.’
I wanted to scream. Or run. Or punch a wall. Instead, I dragged in a slow breath and glanced sideways. Just a flicker of my eyes.
And caught him.
Sprawled out like he owned the goddamn library. Legs open, broad shoulders relaxed like he hadn’t been silently stalking me for the last twenty minutes. Like he wasn’t undressing me with his eyes. Like he didn’t just enjoy the fact that I was unraveling.
That smirk of his.
That infuriating, cocky, knowing curve of his lips.
Fu.ck.
I needed to move. Get out. Run a few miles. Shift. Bite something.
At this point, a janitor’s closet would do. Anything to get away from that scent.
I stood up, fast. Too fast. Chair legs scraped the floor behind me, but I didn’t care. I grabbed my bag and started walking-eyes fixed on the exit, heartbeat pounding like a drum in my ears.
‘We are going to the gym, I told Summer. ‘Punch something. Hit a bag. Anything to get this out.’
‘I know a better way, she purred.
‘For the love of the Goddess..!’
She shook her head at me, as if I was the one being foolish.
The second I turned the corner at the end of the aisle, I heard it.
A footstep.
Soft. Quick. Behind me.
I pivoted fast, eyes narrowing.

Too late.
A hand shot out and grabbed my wrist. Another braced against my lower back-and before I could react, my chest slammed into the cold wall.
“Sh.it-“
“Stay still,” a low voice murmured against my ear.
Derrick.
Of course it was him.
His body pressed into mine, pinning me like I weighed nothing. The pressure of his palm on my back. The grip on my wrist. His chest to my spine. His breath-warm, slow, controlled- brushing my neck.
And lower…
No. Fu.ck no.
But the thing grinding against my ass said otherwise.
He was hard.
Thick and hot and fully aroused, pressing into me like he owned the right to.
My traitorous body lit up like a fuse.
