“Yes”
“Great, lets get going”
I noticed Madelyn hovering closer to Koda while we walked to the car, and she sat very close, and hugged his arm.
“After the funeral, you should organize something to do with Madelyn tomorrow” I linked my brother while we drove “I’ll oversee the fake transfusion, and handle the work load, I think she really needs the whole day with you, after her horrible dream”
“Sure, thanks” He leaned down, and kissed her forehead, and she smiled, and leaned her head against his arm.
The funerals were being held in our massive arena, as we could fit the entire pack inside in the seating area, while the bodies would be placed in the center, along with a large podium where the royal family and council would stand on display.
Our driver parked the car, and we all got out, and walked inside, through a private entrance. We
There, in front of the crowd were 19 wooden piers, with bodies shrouded in white cloth, each embroidered with our pack’s crest. At the end of the line of the bodies, were two men, also in white, and holding torches.
We walked through the pack quietly, and stood beside our parents, facing everyone, with the bodies behind us, and I noticed Madelyn beginning to play with her fingers, in the nervous way she did. I wished I could help her with this particular trauma response, but I didn’t know how. I hoped time, love, and peace would help, but in the meantime, I reached out, and took her hand, and held it tightly.
She looked up at me, and I smiled, and kissed her hand, before turning back to the crowd, and I noticed Koda take her other hand. He must have seen the same thing I had.
My grandmother arrived a few minutes after us, with Evet, who was wearing a very lovely black silk dress, and a black clock.
“Mother” My father reached out his hand, and helped her walk up the small steps to the podium we were standing on.
“Thank you dear” She smiled, and stood beside us, I noticed her glance at Madelyn’s engagement ring, but she didn’t say anything, and just looked out at the pack.
“Let’s begin” Dad touched my mother’s arm, and she nodded.
“Thank you all for coming” My mother announced to the pack, as a hush fell over the crowd “Today is a sad day”
My mother continued her speech to the pack. As I looked around at them all, a few of the family members of the dead staff members were crying softly into tissues, but when I noticed most was Noland, he wasn’t looking at my mother like everyone else, his eyes were on my mate.
I’d noticed men staring at her, since she’d joined our pack, and I’d brushed it off. Madelyn was beautiful and powerful, it was only natural that men would desire her, but the way Noland looked at her, made me extremely uncomfortable. There was a strange softness in his expression that set my teeth on edge.
While I was envisioning killing Noland, my father stepped forward and began his speech. Luckily, he was a man of few words when it came to these kinds of situations, so it was short and sweet.
“Light the torches” My father ordered, and the men placed their torches into the open flames.
The second the torches were a blaze, Madelyn gasped.
“Maddie?” Koda turned, and grabbed her as she shook, and her eyes glowed.
Her face changed in seconds, and when her eyes stopped glowing, she looked terrified.
She shoved away from Koda “STOP!” She screamed, and threw up her hands.
Every fire in the vicinity was extinguished instantly thanks to her powers, and all eyes turned to my mate.
“MADELYN” Our father shouted, angrily “EXPLAIN YOURSELF NOW!”
“If you burn those bodies, we’ll all die!” Madelyn ran over my dad, and touched his temple.
She must have transferred her vision into his mind, because he stepped away from her looking horrified, he stepped around her, and addressed the crowd.
“THE FUNERAL IS OFF, GO HOME!” He shouted, before turning to the guards “TAKE EVERYBODY TO THE PRISON NOW, AND KEEP THEM AWAY FROM FIRE!”
KODA’S POV
“THE FUNERAL IS OFF, GO HOME!” Our father shouted “TAKE EVERYBODY TO THE PRISON NOW, AND KEEP THEM AWAY FROM FIRE!”
The guards immediately set to work clearing the crowd out? Which was difficult when the family members started to argue with them, so our father went over and explained what was happening.
“Sweetheart, what did you see?” Jax said to Maddie, who was staring at the bodies with horror, and she touched his temple, and then mine.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The guards set the bodies on fire, and the dead started to reanimate, but they turned into a similar beast that Eugene had become. We saw that they’d start ripping through the pack, killing dozens before we managed to get them under control.
“Boys” My father grabbed our attention, as the vision faded “We’re going to the prison, I want to burn one of these bodies to investigate it”
“Are you sure that’s wise?” Maddie asked “You saw what those things can do”
“I have a control room, with a glass wall for observation” He explained “It can’t get out, boys, let’s go”
“I want to come too” Maddie said quickly.
“No” I shook my head “It’s too dangerous”
“I have visions” She reminded us “I might be able to see if something is going to happen”
“You’re not going to the prison” Jax told her.
“Of course she can” My mother cut in “She is not a child, she is your Queen. If she wishes to come, then she is coming, so shut up”
I glared at my mother, but Maddie smiled “Thank you, Luna Kara”
Jax growled angrily, and took her hand “Fine, but you will stay beside myself or Koda”
“The girls not made of glass” My grandmother snapped “Let’s go”
It angered me how little they cared for her safety, they only saw her as means of power. No one actually cared about her, unlike myself and Jaxson. I made a promise to myself that I would never let them use her. I’d kill them all if they tried.
“Evet, come along” Our grandmother said, when she didn’t move.
“I don’t want to go” Evet told us quickly “I’ll make sure this is all cleaned up” She gestured to the podium and fire pits.
“Very well dear” My mother smiled, and left the arena.
We all followed, and together we headed to the prison. I could tell by the furious look on Jax’s face, that he hated Maddie at the prison, just as much as I did, but with our parents on her side, we were outnumbered, and couldn’t force her to go home.
As the car pulled up at the prison, I climbed out, but when Maddie went to climb out behind me, Jax grabbed her arm, and she looked over at him in confusion.
“You will not leave our sides”
“I know, you already told me” She grumbled, as I leaned back into the car, to see what was going on.
“Enough Madelyn” He snapped, and she exhaled in annoyance “We have a lot of dangerous prisoners in there, and I will not allow anything to happen to you, just because you insisted on coming today. Do not wander off, do not go anywhere without us, do not”
“Okay, I get it” She growled, and tried to pull her arm free, but he didn’t let her go “Get off me, I’ll be fine, nothing’s going to happen to me!”
“Jax, let her go” I ordered, and reached out my hand for her, and he finally released her.
