“She’s so stubborn!” Jax complained through the link.
“Just more proof that she’s your mate” I responded, and smirked at him.
“Please, you’re more stubborn than I am”
“Keep dreaming” I rolled my eyes, and led the way to the entrance.
I tried to rush Maddie into the elevator, and straight to the cell. Our father had ordered the body to be taken too, but she was looking around with interest, and even peaked into one of the empty cells before I dragged her away.
“Is Sky being kept in a cell like that?” She asked, and pointed to the room that had one bed and a toilet and nothing more.
“Yes” Jaxson answered, as we walked down the hall.
“Good” She surprised me by saying.
When we made it to the cell, our parents, grandmother, and Ryker were walking into the cell ahead of us while one of the adult’s bodies was being placed in the room, and my father looked at Madelyn.
“You can control fire, can’t you?’
“Yes” She answered.
“Will you light the body?”
“Alright” She said reluctantly, and I went with her into the room. The guard placed the body down, and went over to the door.
“Set the body on fire” Dad ordered, as he watched through the glass display wall.
Jaxson stepped closer to the glass, to get a better look, and Maddie held out her hand towards the dead man.
Fire shot out from her hand, and engulfed the bodies in seconds, and I quickly pulled Maddie from the cell.
“Close the cell door” Dad ordered the guard, who quickly closed and locked it.
Maddie and I went to stand beside Jaxson, and it only took a second before there was movement within the flames, and we could hear a strange growling.
I grabbed Maddie’s hand again, and pulled away from the glass, as the creature sprang up from the fire, shaking it’s burnt fur, and growling furiously, as it attacked the walls and door.
“What the f*ck have they created?” My dad said in disgust “This isn’t a Lycan, or a werewolf”
“They’ve either messed up the spell or perverted it” Our grandmother commented, as we watched on in horror.
“It’s in pain” Maddie told us as she pulled out of my grip, and wandered back over to the glass beside Jaxson, with a strange look on her face.
She touched the glass, and the hybrid slowly walked over to her, and rubbed his head against the glass, as if it was a pet, trying to be affectionate to it’s master.
“Madelyn, come away” Jax grabbed her arm, and pulled her away from the monster.
We watched it get agitated, and start attacking the glass in an attempt to claw it’s way out once more, but then suddenly it started coughing up blood, and he died again.
Maddie was crying quietly as she looked through the glass wall.
“So they haven’t perfected the spell yet” Dad said to our mother “They only last a few minutes”
“A few minutes is all they need to kill” Mother pointed out.
“Do you think Eugene is dead too then?” Ryker asked.
“Maybe” Dad said thoughtfully, and turned to the guard “Bring everybody inside the cell, burn it, and wait for it to die, before moving to the next body, and then place them in silver coffins, and bury them, just in case”
“Yes, you majesty”
“And I hope it goes without saying, that you will not speak a word of what you’ve seen here today” My grandmother glared at the guard.
“I didn’t see anything, Queen mother”
“Good” She said, and turned back to us, as he left to retrieve the other bodies “This creature was attached to your mate, it’s clear her blood was used”
“This isn’t her fault” Jaxson told her
“No one was saying it was” Mother told us “Maddie, did Troy ever take your blood”
“Yes, all the time”
“Did you ever give it willingly?”
“Only a few times” She admitted, and our parents exchanged looks “But only because he was going to hurt someone, I’d never have done it otherwise”
“You don’t have to defend yourself” I touched her face “You didn’t do anything wrong” I added, before pulling out my handkerchief, and wiping the tears from her cheeks, but she blushed, and moved away, as she looked at our parents.
“It doesn’t matter if they have her blood” Jax addressed everyone “They clearly don’t have her mothers spell, that’s what we need to focus on, we have to find it, Madelyn, you said pages had been ripped from her diaries, is that right?”
“Yes”
“Then we have to find them” He went on “We should search her old room, she may have hidden them somewhere”
“Or she gave them to her keeper” Gran suggested.
“Maybe I could ask my keeper” Maddie suggested, and we all looked at her “I could leave a note some place, maybe he’ll see it, and make contact”
“No” My father said quickly “You will stay away from your keeper”
“Why?” She asked in confusion “He was the one who told me about the diaries in the first place. He may have the pages”
“We don’t need your keeper” I told her, trying to keep the jealousy out of my voice “If he wanted you to have those pages, he’d have given them to you, if he had them, so he either has them and won’t give them to you, or he doesn’t have them, either way, there’s no point in contacting him”
“I guess” She nodded, but she gave me a strange look, sh*t, did she sense how uncomfortable I was at the mention of her Keeper.
Jax must have sensed it too, because he stepped over to us “Let’s get out of the prison, we have to get to the wake”
“Will we still have it, even though the funeral was disturbed?” Maddie asked.
“Of course” Mother answered her “We will see you there”
MADELYN’S POV
I looked back at the poor dead man. Why were Alpha Troy and Prince Fenrir doing this? I know Alpha Troy wanted power, but how did this help him? Did he think he could create his own race and rule over it? Because from what I’d heard about Prince Fenrir, he didn’t seem like he wanted to share power.
And if it was my blood that created these things, how did that help them? The new race would be loyal to me, not them. How did this help them? Were they hoping to control me somehow, in order to gain control of these beasts? Were they going to try and hurt my mates to get me to what they wanted?
