I looked over at the twins, who were standing close to each other, talking privately through the link, making me feel left out again.
When they noticed me glaring at them, they quickly moved apart, and Koda reached out his hand.
“Baby, come along”
I took his hand, and we started to leave the prison, but when we reached the elevator, a thought occurred to me, and I pulled back against Koda’s hand.
“I want to see Skyler”
“No” Jax answered quickly, giving it no thought at all, as he pressed the button for the elevator.
“Please, I feel like I need to speak with her for closure. I’ll never see her again, and we’re already here”
The twins frowned, but Koda nodded “Alright, but quickly, we have the wake”
“I don’t like this” Jax crossed his muscular arms across his chest “What closure do you need, she’s a lying dog, you can’t trust anything she says”
“I know, but I have to see her”
The elevator opened, and we climbed in, Jax reached for the lobby button, but Koda slapped his hand, and pressed one of the floors, causing him to growl angrily, and lean against the back of the elevator wall with his arms crossed.
“You worry too much” I said, and wrapped my arms around his waist, but he didn’t move, and just glared at the wall behind me.
I growled in annoyance, and shoved his arms out of the way, so I could snuggle up to him, and he finally relented and hugged me back.
“Sook” I heard Koda whisper.
“Shut up” Jax shot back, and kissed the top of my head.
We stayed silent until we reached Sklyer’s cell, but I turned to the twins “Can you both stay here please”
“No” Jax exclaimed in annoyance “I don’t even want you in this f*cking prison, and now”
“Jax would you shut up” Koda ordered, and grabbed his arm “Just stay, Maddie, leave the door open, so we can hear what’s going on, and if you go anywhere near those bars, I’ll drag you away myself”
“Fine” I nodded, and walked away from them.
Sky looked up as I walked in and half closed the door. There was nothing in the space I was standing in, but in front of me were bars, and behind the bars, was a toilet, and a bed that Skyler was sitting on with one knee up, while she dangled the other over the edge of the bed.
She didn’t look well, and her clothing and hair was a mess.
“You’ve looked better” I said snidely, as she glared at me from her bed.
“And you’ve looked worse” She shot back “So, what do I owe the pleasure of your company, your majesty” She added with distain.
“I just realized that when you’re released we’d probably never see each other again” I pointed out “So I wanted to say goodbye, and that I’m sorry about your mother, she was a good woman, she didn’t deserve to die like that”
“It’s your fault” She said angrily, her eyes darkening “If you’d just kept your mouth shut, she’d still be alive”
“It was your father’s fault, not mine”
“Keep telling yourself that, you b*tch!” She shouted “You were already free, you didn’t have to bring the shed up, up after the fact”
“You know, I always wondered if you knew about the shed” I started walking around the cell, trying to ignore the guilt I felt “But when I mentioned it in the caf?, you didn’t even flinch, you didn’t even ask what I meant, how long did you know?”
“Always” She smirked “You deserved it”
“Did I?’ I asked softly.
“You were trash” She told me “You may have washed your face, and changed your clothing, but you’re still trash”
I took a breath, and looked at her “Did you also know about Eugene?”
Sky smiled widely “How was the funeral?” She inquired “Shouldn’t you be off, acting like a Luna?”
“So you did know” I nodded “Whatever plan your father had, it failed”
“Did it?” She asked happily “Is that what you think?”
“Yes” I answered “We didn’t burn them, no one was hurt”
“But word will get out” She commented, and started picking at a spot on her arm, as if she was bored with our conversation “And what do you think your precious little pack will think when they find out that their Luna’s blood was used to make those things, I wonder how long it will be before they turn from you, just like they turned from your mother, and then your mates will throw you away”
“No they”
“Madelyn come!” Jax shoved the door open, his face was furious, and his claws were out “This b*tch isn’t worth your time, don’t listen to a f*cking thing she says”
“You really have no idea what she’s capable of, do you?” Sky asked Jax, who glared at her, and reached his hand out to me “She’s going to be the death of both of you”
“Maddie” Koda said from the doorway “Let’s go”
I took Jaxson’s hand, but turned back to Skyler “Goodbye Skyler”
“Goodbye wolfless”
“She’ll take that as a compliment mutt” Jaxson told her, and pulled me from the room.
Koda slammed the door shut, and walked after us.
“I really don’t know what you hoped to achieve by that” Jaxson asked, but I didn’t answer, I really wasn’t sure, myself.
“Don’t listen to a word she said” Koda told me as we climbed back into the elevator “We’ll never leave you”
“You did in that vision” I said under my breath, but Koda growled and took my face in his hands.
He looked into my eyes “I am going to say this once, and then the subject is to be dropped forever, do you understand me!” He said firmly and angrily, as his eyes burnt with intensity “I am NEVER, going to leave or reject you, I don’t care about your damn dream, now drop it, I never want to hear about it again”
He let me go, and turned back to the doors of the elevator, and we fell silent. Jax slipped his arms around me, and pulled me up against his chest.
“You’re safe with us Madelyn” He said through the link “You’ll never be alone again” He kissed the top of my head, but I didn’t respond.
We left the prison, and half an hour later, we pulled up to a massive four-story hall, made of white marble and stone. Black banners were hung over the windows and entrances in respect for the lost pack members, and there was a golden plaque beside the massive double doors with the names of the victims engraved into it.
“Wow, this place is huge” I whispered as we walked up to the doors.
“Hello Alpha’s, Luna’ A man came over to us wearing a suite “The King and Queen are already inside, I have been asked to attend to you today”
“Wonderful” Koda responded “Maddie, this is Myles”
