“Hello” I smiled at him.
“Hello Luna” He said shyly, and blushed, but when Jax growled softly, Myles cleared his throat “If you’ll follow me”
We walked into the massive hall, led by Myles, who showed us to a private seating area, roped off, so other pack members couldn’t come over to us without the permission of the guards who stood close by.
“I will bring you some drinks your majesty’s” He bowed, and walked towards a private bar area.
There were buffet-style tables set up in our private area, as well as the main public area, only there were three times the amount as we had.
Beside the food were more tables, each covered in black table cloths, and beautiful white flower centerpieces. There were also golden plates, cutlery and glass and golden glasses at each black chair.
A band was playing softly from a corner of the room, and waiters were walking through the crowd, offering snacks and drinks while the pack spoke among themselves.
Jax pulled out a chair for me, and I sat down opposite Evet, who was talking with Beta Cole.
“Luna” Myles returned holding a tray and past me a wine, but Jaxson took it, and smelt it.
“What are you doing?” I asked when he took a cautious sip “Do you really think someone’s going to try and drug me again?”
“I’m not taking the risk” He passed me the glass and turned to Myles “Bring her an unopened water as well”
“Yes Alpha”
I took a sip of the wine, but screwed up my face. I really didn’t think alcohol was for me, so I placed it on the table, but Jax casually placed a napkin over it, so no one could put anything into the drink.
I shook my head patiently at him, but he just winked, and started up a conversation with Evet and Cole, I turned and looked around for Koda, and saw him with his parents, but they were silent, indicating that they were talking through the link, and I wondered what they couldn’t say out loud.
I turned and looked around the room, watching the pack, I felt a twinge of pain coming from them, as they talked about their lost friends and family, and I felt guilty all over again.
“Shouldn’t we go speak with everyone?” I interrupted Jax’s conversation.
He looked at me in confusion, as if this idea never occurred to him.
“Why would we do that?” The Queen mother asked as he came over to the table. Cole quickly stood up, and pulled out a chair for her “Thank you Beta”
“Because the pack is hurting” I pointed out “Shouldn’t we try to soothe them?”
“They’re not children” The Queen said, as if I was crazy “They don’t need to have their hands held every time someone dies, it happens, grow up”
I frowned at her, I was already on edge because of my guilt, and her uncaring comments set me, and I growled, and stood up.
“How was someone like you, ever a Luna!?” I snapped, before I could stop myself “Do you care about the pack at all? You’re such a”
“A WHAT!?” She shouted, as her guard walked over to us.
Koda was at my side in a second, as Jax stood up “She didn’t mean it” Jax told his grandmother quickly “Tensions are high today, she’s never been at a funeral like this, and she’s overwhelmed”
“I don’t need you to defend me”
“Maddie, hush!” Koda ordered “Grandmother, please forgive her, she’s still learning to control her and Ava’s tempers”
“You need to start pulling this girl into line” The King said, as he walked over to us.
“Like you pulled my mother into line?” I snapped, and his face fell.
“That’s enough, all of you” Queen Kara ordered, but continued to smile. I turned and saw that the pack members close by were staring at us “Maddie darling, I know that you’re feeling the packs pain right now, and it’s difficult for you, but you have to learn to control it, we can spend some time together soon, and I will teach you, but right now, you have to calm down and try to block it before it makes you do something you will regret”
“And you will apologize to the Queen mother” The King demanded.
I glared from him, to Queen Kaiya, and took a breath “I’m sorry” I said as sincerely as I could muster, to the stupid b*tch “It’s been a difficult day, I didn’t mean to take my temper out on you”
“Do not do it again” She responded, and continued to sip her drink, and the tension left the group.
“What’s gotten into you?” Jax asked through the link “Sit down”
“I don’t want to sit down” I snapped, and walked over to the bar, and sat down on the stool beside Beta Ryker, who looked at me with a strange smile, but I ignored him “May I have a lemonade please”
“Yes Luna” The bar tender said, and poured me a drink.
I went to lift it, but Koda hugged me from behind, and took the drink before I could, and took a sip of it, before placing it down in front of me.
“Don’t be upset” Koda linked me, and kissed my throat, causing me to shiver in delight “We can go speak with the pack, if it will make you feel better”
“Really?”
Koda shook his head, and took my face in his hands “Why don’t you get it yet?” He asked me “Jax and I would do anything for you, all you have to do is ask, so stop over thinking things, and stop keeping things to yourself and working yourself up, all you have to do is ask, and we’ll give you anything… baby… we’d give you the damn world”
I blinked back tears, and sniffed, before he kissed me “Okay, let’s go speak with the pack”
I grabbed my drink, and climbed off the stool, and together we walked out passed the ropes. I could see the Queen mother’s eyes burning angrily into my back, but I tried to ignore her.
“You two need to stop indulging her” I heard her say to Jaxson.
“And why would we do that?” He asked.
“Because she seems to forget there’s a hierarchy to uphold” She snapped “If she speaks to me like that again, I will have her punished”
“Ignore her” Koda kissed my hand, and pulled me further into the crowd.
We started speaking to the pack, who seemed surprised by our actions, and one women even hugged and thanked me for coming to talk to her about her dead father.
We got separated for a moment, but Koda found speaking to a young lady, who blushed and looked down at her feet when Koda came over.
“Hello Veronica” He greeted her.
“Hello Alpha” She whispered. I waited for the jealousy, but Koda didn’t seem interested at all.
“I have to use the bathroom” He linked me “Stay in Jaxson’s eyeline, don’t wander off alone”
“Okay”
He kissed me “Excuse me, Veronica” He said, and the girl blushed again, and bowed.
“I’m going to get another drink” I told her, and walked away, while she turned to her friend, and started giggling and talking about how hot Koda was, and how excited she was that he knew her name.
I smiled and rolled my eyes, as I went to the bar, but I got distracted when I passed Noland and a group of men laughing by a table.
“What are you doing?” I asked him curiously, as I walked over to the table.
