“Oh,” She said, “They’re beautiful, but…”
“What?”
“I don’t have my ears pierced.”
I looked up at her ears to find that they were pierced. I’d never met a woman who didn’t have her ears done.
“Sh*t,” Jax said, “I didn’t notice. I’ll get a different present.”
“No,” She quickly closed the box and held it to her heart, “I want them.”
I smiled, “We’ll get your ears pierced tomorrow so you can wear them.”
“Ok.” She said happily and placed the earrings on her lap and picked up the bigger one and opened it to reveal a gorgeous matching necklace with small blue gems in between the diamonds.
“Do you like it?” I asked as she ran her fingers along it.
“It’s beautiful,” She answered, “But I… I feel a little guilty, I don’t have anything for either of you.”
Jaxson laughed and kissed her cheek. “Madelyn my love, you are the greatest birthday present we’ve ever been given.”
Maddie blushed a little, “Will you put it on me?”
“Of course.”
I picked up the necklace as Jaxson pulled back Maddie’s hair and I clipped the necklace in place around her slender throat.
“Gorgeous,” I stated as Jax’s let her hair fall.
“It suits you,” My brother said happily.
“Ive never worn something so expensive before.” She told us and touched the necklace nervously.
“Well, it’s the first of many expensive things we’ll be buying you, so get used to it.” Jax told her.
“Do you truly like it?”
“Yes, it”s so pretty.” She answered me, “I love the blue gems.”
Ha… I looked at Jax who glared playfully at me.
“Maddie, I have to ask you a question.” I took her hands on mine and she looked at me nervously, “And it’s a very serious question, so you have to promise to tell me the truth, okay?”
“Ok.” She nodded, looking very serious.
“What is your favorite color?”
Jax laughed and punched my arm, “You complete id*ot!”
Maddie looked at me on confusion, “That’s your very serious question?” She asked and raised her eyebrows up at me in amusement.
“You have no idea how serious, please tell us.”
“Um… I guess it would be blue.”
“Yes!” I kissed her hands before I stood up and bowed in my brother’s face.
“Yeah yeah, shut up!” Jax shoved me and laughed.
“I don’t understand.” Maddie looked between us.
I laughed and explained about our bet and Maddie looked at Jax with a sad smile.
“I’m sorry.” She said sweetly and kissed his cheek.
“You can make it up to me later.” He commented and looked over her tempting body.
Maddie leant back blushing again but then she yarned.
“Sorry, I didn’t really sleep well after I rejected Scott.”
I suppressed a growl, I didn’t want her talking about that piece of sh*t.
“That’s alright,” Jax gently reached over and touched her face, “You must have been feeling awful today. Most people react very badly to a rejection.”
“It was worth it.” She yawned again, “I would never be his mate. I was actually planning on running away and going rogue, but I thought I’d have at least one fun night before I snuck away. I never imagined I’d meet the two of you or that I’d be so lucky. It hasn’t exactly been the theme of my life.”
“One day soon, we’d like to know about everything you’ve been through.” I told her, “And it will be the theme of your life from this moment on.”
She smiled, but didn’t say anything, she mustn’t believe me.
“Are you still in pain?” Jax asked.
“No,” She answered happily, “All the pain vanished when I kissed the both of you.”
“Really?” I said a little smugly, “I guess we should keep kissing you then.”
“I agree.” Jax smirked at her, “We’d hate for the pain to come back.”
We both leaned in but she giggled and placed her hands on both of our chests to stop us.
“Can we hold that thought until tomorrow? I’m really tired.”
“Sure,” Jax said easily, which confused me. I didn’t want to go to sleep, I was enjoying being with our mate and I knew he was too. “The sooner we go to sleep, the sooner the 48hr deadline runs out.”
Oh, so that’s why he doesn’t care. I laughed and shook my head.
“How about we have a nice long shower and get into bed?”
Maddie frowned at, “But you just took a shower?”
I smiled, “If I’m not allowed to touch you tonight, I’m going to need another one.”
MADELYN’S POV
I blushed as my eyes fell down to the pillow over my mate’s crutch, but I also felt a rush of excitement, was he going to touch himself and think of me? Why did that thought fill me with the very strong desire to join him in the shower?
“Here,” Jaxson reached out his hand as he stood up, “You can shower in our bathroom, and we’ll use the guest bathrooms.”
