“How the hell did your id*ot Luna not see all the abuse” I growled “Was she really so self-involved?”
“Don’t talk about her like that” Maddie snapped at me, her cheeks getting red “And Alpha Troy would tell her I didn’t like crowds and had begged him not to force me to go, she had no way of knowing it was a lie”
“She could have asked you!”
“You can’t”
“Okay, enough” Jax intervened “He’s sorry, we just hate that you lived like that, please don’t get upset, today’s a happy day, come on, I’ll pick you a dress”
Jax took her hand, and led Maddie to the closest with her glaring at me, so much for a enjoyable morning.
“You should have kept your mouth shut” Flynn scolded me “You know how much mate loved her old Luna”
“That b*tch was just as bad as Troy”
“Yes, but mate doesn’t see it that way. Just let it be, Morgans dead”
When we were both dressed, me in jeans, a black shirt and leather jacket, but Jax was in his usual formal attire, the guy needed to learn to dress for comfort, especially on a day like this. But Maddie looked stunning. Jax had picked out a dress I loved in the mall, and had to beg her to let me get it for her. She’d turned me down at first, stating it was too expensive, but I shut that talk down.
It was an A- line dress, with a silk white top area and soft flowing purple and white at the bottom. A pretty purple embroidery over the front of the white area looked like a pretty open flower.
Molly had styled her hair, pulling it, so it was half up and half down, with pretty white flower pins that matched her dress.
We were in the car, heading to the main tower, so we could speak with our advisor for the day, when we were linked by our guards.
“Alpha Jaxson, Alpha Koda” Graham, one of the guards linked us “We have Warrior Noland”
“Take him to the prison” Jax ordered instantly.
“About time” I celebrated from the seat “We can finally get some damn answers”
“No, we can’t go yet” Jax looked at Maddie, who was fussing over her dress, and didn’t seem to notice our distraction “Besides, we have the festival”
“You’re right” I agreed “We can speak with him tomorrow, let him rot in prison for the night, we’ll tell Maddie tomorrow, and just enjoy the day”
“Why do you have masks?” Maddie asked, and we stopped linking, I felt bad that we were going to keep this from her after we’d just promised to have full disclosure, but we really did want her to enjoy her first festival, I promised myself that we’d definitely tell her tomorrow.
“Oh right” Jax laughed at himself, for his oversite “You wouldn’t know, we wear masks during the festival, his ones for you”
He passed over a pretty white mask that would only over a small area of her face.
MADELYN’S POV
The festival was everything I’d dreamed.
Massive banners over all the buildings, streamers and golden hanging high over the road to create a tent like canopy, with lanterns and glittering fairy lights strung around the ropes.
The ground was covered in beautiful flower pedals and everyone was wearing beautiful gowns and costumes.
I no longer felt too dressed up in my gown and mask.
I looked over at the twins who were talking with their assistant and an advisor, who were giving the twins their itinerary for the day.
But I was caught up looking around at all the food vendors and artists drawing and painting pack members.
The smell of delicious sweets filled the air around me and Ava and I found ourselves wandering off towards one particular stall where an old man was making candied animals.
I was drawn to one on particular, a beautiful phoenix with red and white candy mixed in to create the masterpiece.
“Wow” I gushed at the man “You’re so talented”
“Thank you, Luna” He smiled brightly “Please, pick one, on the house”
I waved my hands in front of myself “Oh, no, I couldn’t, it wouldn’t be right if everyone else has to pay”
“I’ve got it” Jax said, after he’d come over to me and passed over some bronze coins “Which one do you want, sweetheart?”
“The Phoenix” I pointed, and we exchanged a knowing smirk.
“Okay” Jax smiled “The Phoenix and the bear” He told the man, who started to wrap them up for us.
“What about Koda?”
“He doesn’t like candy” Jax reminded me, as he took the sweets, and several children ran around up playing tag and laughing.
“Thank you” I smiled at the man, who bowed, and turned to a little boy who was pulling on his dad’s hand.
“Don’t wander off” Jax linked me, as he passed over my sweet “The entire city is out today, it’s not safe”
“I had that vision, remember” I pointed out smugly “I wasn’t in danger until nighttime, so logic dictates that I was safe up until then”
Jax glared at me for a moment before responding “Did it ever occur to you, that you were safe up until then, because you didn’t wander off?”
He winked at me, when I glared back at his stupid gorgeous face, but I let it go, and enjoyed my treat.
“Hey” Koda walked over to us as he placed a folded up piece of paper into his jacket “We have an hour until the fights, what would you like to see first, baby?”
“Everything!”
Koda laughed “Well, how about we start with the food. I’m starving, we can walk towards the arena”
“You just ate breakfast, how are you starving?” Jax rolled his eyes.
Koda weaved his fingers through mine, but I quickly pulled out of his grip, and his face fell “What’s wrong?”
“Your grandmother had Evelyn teach me how to behave in public, and I’m not allowed to hold your hands in front of the pack” I told them “I don’t want to get you two into trouble again”
“Oh, for f*ck sake!” Jax growled.
“Ignore everything Evelyn told you” Koda ordered, and took my hand, holding it firmly “If we want to touch you, we damn well will”
He pulled me over to a vendor selling roast beef inside some kind of bun, and Jax quietly followed after us eating his candy.
It smelt delicious, but I was really enjoying my candy, and told Koda I didn’t want any, when he asked.
He still got two, claiming I might change my mind, but he ate both of them while we continued to walk.
“Mommy look!” I heard a little boy, I turned and saw him pointing at us “It’s Alpha Koda and Jaxson!”
