“Easy” He said calmly “King Fenrir is going to give her back to you. Well, what’s left of her, that is. There’s a dead stream near a small mountain, hidden under some vines in an opening. We’re inside, and you better hurry. Maddie had lost a lot of blood, it would be a pity for you to get her back, only for her to die from blood loss”
He cut the link before either of us could respond.
“Dead stream?” I said thoughtfully as I looked at Koda “There was a dead stream and a mountain a few miles back, where we found her pin!”
Knox turned and bolted, while Koda shifted and Flynn ran after us.
“WE WERE RIGHT THERE HOURS AGO, AND WE MISSED THE CAVE!” Koda shouted angrily “WE LEFT HER THERE!”
I couldn’t think about that, I just had to get to her, I had to save her, I had to have her in my arms again.
While we raced back, I ordered Cole and the guards to merge on the area, and told our father that we might have Fenrir soon. He responded by saying he was on his way, and that he’d bring the helicopter so he shouldn’t be far away.
When we reached the spot we’d found the pin, we both shifted, pulled on our pants, and started searching for an opening.
“I can’t smell her scent” Koda sounded terrified “She can’t be here, they’re just messing with us, we must have been close to their location, so they tried to make us go the opposite direction, we need to go back”
I looked from my brother, to the direction we had just come from, torn at what to do.
“I FOUND AN OPENING!” Noland shouted, and we both ran to him instantly, to find him pushing vines back.
Cody and I ran ahead of Noland and Cole, into a large clearing where Madelyn’s scent filled the air around me, but to my horror, so did a massive amount of her blood, and what smelt like human flesh burning. Did they burn her?
Koda grabbed me by my arm, as I looked around, and he pointed to the left, where smoke was coming from, so we ran towards another opening where we saw two huts and a huge fire, with a body inside the flames. For a split second, my heart seized. I thought it was Madelyn but Koda growled, and I turned to see that Madelyn wasn’t dead.
“LET HER GO!” Koda shouted.
We were both growling, as we ran towards the hut. She looked atrocious, she was covered in blood, and bruises. Her hair was knotted and dripping with blood. Her dress was torn and hanging from her body and soaked in blood.
I couldn’t breathe as I looked at her.
“I knew you’d come” She wept, her voice was coarse and weak “I knew you’d come”
“Of course, baby” Koda’s voice shook, hearing her crying was breaking his heart too “Always”
“GET AWAY FROM HER TROY!”
“Easy nephews” A voice came from the right of us.
We looked over to see how uncle. He looked completely at ease, and smiled.
“So, what’s the protocol here?” He asked “I’m your elder, but disowned, and you are the reigning heirs, so… should I bow to you, or you two bow to me?”
“We’ll do something to you c*nt, but I promise, it’s not bowing” I growled.
“You really remind me a lot of my father” He commented, as Cole and Noland caught up to us “And trust me, that’s not a compliment, shall we have a drink and catch up?”
“WE’RE NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR SH*T, LET HER GO!” I screamed.
I could feel my power seeping from me, and the dead trees all around us began to sway and creek.
Fenrir laughed “I was serious about the drink” He pointed to a log beside the fire, but I focused more on the body.
“Who is that?” Koda asked.
“Latoyah” Fenrir answered “You knew her as Molly, at least after she killed the real one, and took her place, now, about that drink”
So Molly didn’t betray us after all.
We walked over to the fire, and saw two cups sitting on a log, but I didn’t care about them, I was more focused on the fact, that I was now closer to Madelyn.
“Do you think you can get to Troy, while I get Fenrir?” I linked my brother.
“Yes” He responded, his eyes fixed on our girl who was shaking.
Fenrir must have noticed our exchange, or maybe just how focused we looked, because he laughed “I wouldn’t try anything if I were you” He warned us, and Troy quickly wrapped his hand around Madelyn’s throat, and started cutting off her air supply “Move an inch, and he’ll snap her neck!”
“Okay, okay!” Koda raised his hands in fear “Just, don’t hurt her!”
“Release her throat” Fenrir ordered, and Troy loosened his grip. Madelyn gasped for air, as she thrust up her elbow, and hit Troy directly in the nose, and breaking it.
I was beyond proud of our girl, but Troy growled furiously, and gripped her throat hard again.
“Don’t make me tell you again Troy” Fenrir said in warning, and he quickly let her go “Now, about those drinks, one has poison, and one has wine” He smiled at us “If you want her released, you have to pay the toll, one of you has to die, and if you say no, she dies”
“DON’T DO IT!” Madelyn shouted, and tried to get free from Troy’s grip on her arm “HE’S LYING, HE WON’T KILL ME!”
Fenir pulled out a silver dagger, and started playing with it “Hurry up nephews” He said calmly, and took a step towards her “Pick, or she dies”
“NO!” Cody shouted “We’ll do it”
“NO!” Madelyn began to struggle harder “IT’S A TRICK TO BRING ON MY MOLT!”
“Trick or not, I’ll still kill you if they don’t drink” He told her “One way or the other, I will bring on your molt”
“I’ll go first” I told Koda.
“No, I’ll go”
“NO!” Madelyn screamed, so Troy covered her mouth.
“No, I am” I looked at the cups on the log in front of me, and then up into Madelyn’s terrified, pleading eyes.
“I love you” I told her, as I lifted one of the cups.
Madelyn started struggling and screaming into Troys’s hand, but he gripped her throat tighter.
“STOP!” I shouted, in fear, she was already hurt badly, and I didn’t want her injured further “Madelyn please, don’t fight!”
She started crying harder, but didn’t fight anymore, and I noticed Troy loosen his grip.
“We’re growing old, Jaxson, hurry up” Fenrir smiled.
I glared at the pr*ck, before looking at Koda “Take care of her, I love you, brother, always have.”
“I love you too”
Before Koda could do anything, I poured the contents of my cup into the other one, and picked it up.
