“STOP!” Koda shouted, but it was too late, I’d already downed the contents.
Cody grabbed the cup from my hands and threw it away, before grabbing my arms “WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE!” He shook me, as I felt my throat closing up, and I gave a loud gasp for air, as I felt my stomach begin to boil “NO! JAX. NO. NO.NO!”
I slumped in my brother’s arms, and looked at Madelyn who was screaming again, and struggling with even more aggression now, and even Troy couldn’t hold her any longer.
I looked into my girl’s eye’s, I wished more than anything in this world, that I could have touched her one last time. I wished more than anything, to stay by her side, to love her, to give her happiness, to have a family with her. I saw our whole life I wanted, rushed through my mind, but I took comfort in the fact, that she’d have all of that with Cody.
As my eyes shut, I saw a burning flame erupt all over Madelyn’s skin.
KODA’S POV
NO! JAX. NO. NO.NO!”
I couldn’t breathe. How could he do this? How could he make me live with his choice? How could I live without him? How could I face Maddie again? Flynn was howling in agony, and clawing inside my mind, begging to be released to save our brother, but there was nothing he could do.
The sounds of Maddie’s screams were the only sounds in the clearing besides the sound of my heart beating loudly in my chest.
Jaxson looked at our mate, while I held his hand, but then his grip loosened, and I looked down to see his eyes closing, and my whole body locked down. I could feel the pain of his death ripping into my through our connection.
Maddie’s screams stopped, and I looked over in pain, and my eyes widened as Maddie’s body erupted into flames that converged to her hands, and the cuffs melted off her wrists.
“Finally!” Fenrir sounded excited.
Troy gasped in pain, and stepped away from Maddie, who’s face was completely blank, and her eyes started to glow golden.
“SH*T!” Troy thundered, and looked at Fenrir “IT’S NOT HER MOLT, SHE’S CHANNELING AGAIN!”
Chanelling? What the f*ck was that?
“That’s okay” Fenrir said, though he did sound frustrated “I still have plan B”
Fenrir’s body vanished before my eyes, and Troy looked terrified..
“YOU TRAITOR!” Troy shouted.
Maddie tilted her head and smiled at Troy, who was stepping away from her “I’m sorry”
“Oh?” Maddie’s voice sounded distant and emotionless “You’re sorry, you were always sorry after you hurt us, weren’t you Troy, and yet, I always let you live”
Troy turned and tried to run, but Maddie reached out her hand, and Troy froze in place. What was happening? Why was he suddenly terrified?
Maddie ignored Troy’s screams and reached out her other hand towards myself and Jax, and I looked down to see a stream of liquid coming out of Jaxson’s mouth, and he actually started breathing once more.
“I always gave you a pass” Maddie said and walked over to Troy “Always, because I was terrified that Maddie would get killed for your death, but now” She grabbed Troy’s throat “I am no longer afraid for her life. Goodbye, Troy, say hello to Scott for me”
Troy started screaming, and trying to get out of her grip, but Maddie’s hand erupted into flames again, and Troy lit up in seconds, screaming in agony as Maddie held him in place.
His death was quick, and soon, Troy was ashes being blown away by a light wind flowing all around us.
What the f*ck is going on? Why was Maddie talking about herself in the 3rd person?
Maddie turned and looked at Cole and Noland, who looked nervous “Hello Noland” She said to him, still with no emotion in her tone.
“My Queen” He gulped and took a step back.
“Both of you leave, and wait with the guards” Maddie ordered “I wish to speak with my mates alone”
Cole looked confused and a little scared, but he grabbed Noland and pulled him away from us.
“Maddie?” I called out to her.
She didn’t answer me, as she walked over and sat down on her knees, she reached out and touched Jaxson’s chest and frowned.
I watched as she reached up and touched her eyes, where it was damp from her tears, and wiped up some liquid, before touching the tears to Jaxson’s lips.
She leaned down and blew softly against his lips, and whispered something in the same strange language Noland had spoken earlier, and Jaxson’s lips began to glow, the glowing flowed into his mouth and down into his body.
“What are you doing?”
“Phoenix tears heal injuries” She answered and looked up into my eyes “And the poison injured him internally”
“But you haven’t motled yet”
“It’s complicated” She said, and touched my chest with a strange sadness in her eyes “I’m so sorry”
“For what?”
“For everything that’s going to happen” She answered “For everything I’m going to do”
“What are you going to do?” I asked “What is happening? How are your tears able to heal? You haven’t motled yet. Why are your eyes glowing? Why are you talking about yourself like it’s another person? Why”
“Cody” She laughed and placed her hand on my mouth “My darling, please, take a breath, and I’m not Maddie”
“What?”
“Well, I am, but also not”
“You’re not making any sense!” I complained, as Jax started to moan and my eyes shot down.
“I don’t know how to describe this properly” She said, thoughtfully “Phoenixes are immortal, or at least full bloods are. We don’t just get reborn, we can also connect to ourselves through time. I’m not your Maddie, I’m from the future”
“You’re from… what?” This was a lot.
“Every time Maddie’s had a vision of the future” She went on “She wasn’t just seeing things, she was channeling her future self through her mind, and that’s what’s happening now, whenever one of us is feeling an enormous mental strain, we connect”
“So.. Maddie connected with you?”
“She did” Maddie smiled “She couldn’t mentally handle seeing Jax dying. I don’t blame her, I didn’t either when I was her age, I have no memory of this moment in time, I thought it was because I’d passed out, that’s what you’re going to tell me when she wakes up, but now I know the truth”
“So, all the time’s Maddie’s blacked out?” I asked “You were taking over her body”
“Yes”
“Did you kill Scott?”
“No me, exactly” She answered “But another Madelyn from the timeline, we loved every second of it too”
“So you know the future?” I asked, as Jax groaned again, and Maddie reached down and kissed his head.
