“Koda, release him” Our father ordered, and he growled again before shoving Ezra back “We’re taking him at his word”
“Right, because his word is trustworthy” I snapped “Just like when he lied about me all those years ago!”
“Koda was also involved in that situation” Our mother pointed out, and I noticed Koda look down in guilt “Are you saying your brother isn’t trustworthy too, people change and grow up”
“I’ve seen proof that Koda’s not an un-trustworthy trash bag” I said, angrily “Ezra has proven nothing!”
“Jaxson, enough” My mother sighed “We have other things to deal with, we need to decide how to handle this situation”
“What situation, he’s a liar, I don’t care what he says” I snapped “I say we throw him out of the city”
“Fenrir said that if I don’t pass on information about the Luna, then the next time he beats me, he won’t stop until I’m dead”
“What a loss that’ll be” I commented.
“And then he’ll go after my family” He shouted “I won’t let them get hurt because of your mate!”
“MADELYN IS NOT TO BLAME FOR ANY OF THIS!” I shouted, as my claws came out in my rage.
“Jax, enough” My mother scolded me again “Let go of the past and think with your head. This could save Maddie and help us capture your uncle. He can turn spy for us, and pass back information on your uncle. We may even get his location”
“Or he’s already a spy for Fenrir” Koda countered “For all we know, he’s a double agent, and this whole sob story was something they concocted together”
“Real or not, it doesn’t matter” I pointed out “He’s not getting anywhere near our mate, nor will we ever give him any personal information to tell Fenrir”
“If it gets us Fenrir, then it’s worth it” Ryker pointed out.
“Is that so” I turned and growled in warning “How about we use your f*cking mate as bait, then we’ll see if it’s worth it!”
“It doesn’t matter if it’s worth it” Koda added “The answer is NO!” He turned to our parents “If you’d done your job in the first place and killed your brother, none of this would be happening, use another way to find him”
“As someone who’s alive because his brother allowed him to live, now would be a good time to tone down the attitude” My father snapped.
“We should never have been forced to fight in the first place!” I pointed out “Koda’s alive because he shouldn’t have been at risk to begin with, as for Ezra, I don’t care what happens to him, I don’t trust him, we’re not giving him info on Madelyn to pass on, but I want you to use your command to force him to tell us if Fenrir ever gives him his location again”
“I already have” Our dad answered “As for your comment about bait, now that’s a good idea, how does Fenrir expect you to communicate with him?”
“A fire spell” Ezra answered “I place a note into a fire, say a spell, and the note will burn up and appear where he is”
“We could send him a note saying Madelyn is going somewhere, and we can wait for him to go to her, and we’ll have him” Our father said eagerly.
“Do you really think he’ll fall for it?” Koda asked “Because I’m telling you right now, Maddie will not be there in person”
“It’s worth a shot” Ryker commented.
“If he doesn’t fall for it, then he’ll know it was a trap and my family will be in danger”
“With Fenrir free, everyone’s family is in danger” My mother told him “However, I will send my most trusted guards to go and collect your sister and bring her here”
“Won’t that be a giveaway to Fenrir that I’ve turned on him?”
“If your sisters safe, what does it matter if he finds out?” Ryker asked.
“It’ll ruin our chances to get to him” Ezra pointed out “Plus, you couldn’t even protect your own mate in the city. Fenrir told me what he did to her because you failed to protect her. How will my sister be safe?”
Koda and I growled in warning, but he wasn’t wrong, we had failed to protect her.
“Boys” My mother said in caution, knowing that Ezra was in danger “Calm down”
I was breathing hard and glaring at Ezra “Say one more word about our girl and I swear to the Goddess, I will end your life”
“I understand that you don’t trust Ezra” My father tried to get back on track “I don’t fully trust him either, but this is a good plan, we need more information on what Fenrir’s planning and this is the only chance we have to find him!”
“I don’t like this” Koda crossed his arms “We can’t trust a word he says”
“Is it really so hard for you to believe that I’ve changed?” Ezra asked, looking upset and offended.
“Yes” I answered.
“Well, I have” He tried to convince me “Being in charge of my pack has changed me, I was furious when we were growing up, I was all alone with the weight of running my pack to look forward to, but you and Koda had each other to share the burden, even with everyone trying to pull you apart and pit you against one another, you still stood by each other, I saw how Alpha Jax would always back you up, no matter how you treated him, and I was jealous, okay, I’m sorry, but I am telling the truth. Fenrir did threaten my sister. Please, she’s the only family I have left. I can’t lose her”
“Do you believe him?” Koda linked me, my Goddess, the boy was a bleeding heart.
“Of course not” I responded “But we could use him”
“Boys?” My mother touched my arm “Are you on board?”
“Does it matter if we’re not?” I pulled my arm away “Since when have you two ever consulted us?”
I saw the hurt in my mother’s face, but I wasn’t taking it back.
“Yes, you’ve had such a hard life” My father snapped.
“What would you know about my life?” I snapped back “You pushed us off on staff and nanny’s our entire life, name one f*cking thing you even know about us?”
“I know you’re a whinny little child!” My father shouted “We were running a kingdom, we weren’t just responsible for our children, we had to protect everyone!”
“ENOUGH!” My mother shouted “This is not the time or the place, we cannot change the past, we need to focus on our future, and how we will go forward with this situation. Ezra, we will choose to trust you, but if you are betraying us, I will personally kill your sister in front of you before throwing you into the dungeons until the day you die”
KODA’S POV
“Before throwing you into the dungeons until the day you die”
“Trusting him will be a mistake” Jaxson told our parents “And Koda and I will not be apart of it”
“You will if I say you will” Our father snapped.
“We will discuss this more in private” Our mother ordered, before turning to Ezra “Rest and recover, we will talk again soon, but I promise you Ezra, if you are betraying us because you think Fenrir will win this fight, you are mistaken, and you will regret it”
“I’m not betraying the crown” He assured her.
“That’s exactly what someone who was betraying us would say” Jax pointed out before leaving the room.
We all followed and climbed into our father’s car, and much to my displeasure, was forced to sit beside my brother and Ryker, opposite my parents who were sitting comfortably together on the back seat.
“This won’t end well” Jaxson told our parents.
“Of course it won’t” My mother rolled her eyes “But for Ezra and not us, do you truly think we believe him? Don’t be ridiculous, we just want Ezra to think we believe him”
