“Some Phoneix can touch you and freeze you to death” He went on “One of the Queens has this ability”
“One of the Queens?” Jax frowned “I thought Madelyn’s grandmother was the only one left”
“She’s the only pure blood Phoenix left” He answered “Not the only one, there’s two hidden cities. We have barriers around our cities that makes them invisible, and for three months every year, a door way opens to allow us to come and go”
“So you only checked on her for a few months a year and not full-time?”
“Who said I was checking on her?” He asked.
I sighed again, he was such a d*ck, we get it… you’re under orders not to admit you’re her keeper.
“Anyway” He continued “Queen Azula is the official Queen, but one of the other Phoenix’s, Queen Zarina, challenged her during the dragon wars, and built her own city. There’s now a divide, and I’m sure Zarina is after your mate too. She’s not just a Phoneix from the royal line, but she’s also a white Lycan, she’s very powerful and very coveted”
“Great, someone else who wants her” Jax complained.
“And her heat?” I asked.
“She’s burst into flames” He answered “Her literal skin will burn off, and she’ll shift, it’s quite a site to see, and her true powers will come forth. Her Keeper will need to be there to try and calm her down, she’ll have no control, and could burn down the entire city, you saw what her mother did to that forest, Maddie is just as powerful, just as dangerous”
“Will her marks still be in place after her molt?” Jaxson asked.
“Unfortunately, yes” He glared “But if she dies, and is reborn, all bets are off”
“Well, we’ll never have to worry about that” I commented “Is it true that Phoenix can go through time?”
“Only in their minds” He answered “I’ve only ever known true blood’s to be able to do it though, it’s remarkable that Maddie could do it, but again, she’s part white, she’s powerful”
“Do you know what will happen when she gives birth?” Jax asked, and I sat up with interest.
Noland looked disgusted “No clue, her mother gave birth, but true blood need to shift and give birth in their Phoenix form. They lay an egg in the fire and the egg needs to stay there for a few days until it hatches, even if Maddie gives birth normally, she may need fire when she gives birth to a girl”
“Why only a girl?”
“No male Phoenix have been born in hundreds of years, we don’t know why”
“I see” I frowned thoughtfully “So none of our sons will be part Phoenix, only our daughters”
“I guess”
“Do you know what happened to her mother?” Jax asked, after a few seconds of silence.
“She left the city while she was pregnant” He answered “She was going to a meeting with your grandmother, but she vanished, it took us years to find out that she was with Troy”
“You’re lying” I turned on him “Our parents didn’t know what happened to her, they’d have told us if they’d seen her while she was pregnant”
“Would they?” Noland asked “And I never said your parents knew, I said she was meeting with your grandmother”
“Are you implying that she had something to do with Iyo’s death?”
“I’m just answering your questions, I don’t know what happened to her after she gave birth to Maddie, are we done with the Q and A?”
“Not even close” I responded.
We spoke for the next hour, asking all the questions we could think of, and we took each answer with a grain of salt. We didn’t know how much we could believe. In the end, we thanked him and came to a tense truce. We told him we wouldn’t lock him up again, but we would be telling Maddie the truth in a few days, and if she wanted to know him, then we wouldn’t get in the way.
We stayed busy for the rest of the day, but I think it was mostly because we wanted a distraction, but I couldn’t wait to get home to Maddie, and I wasn’t disappointed. We had a very satisfying f*ck in the walk-in, and my day ended happier than it began.
MADELYN’S POV
I yawned and stretched on Tuesday morning, but frowned in confusion when I didn’t feel either of my mates in the bed beside me. I slowly opened my eyes and saw that the bedroom was empty.
The twins had been so strange since Saturday, they’d been getting out of bed early to work and doubling theirs and my training sessions. I was actually getting good, and had flipped Evet, who continued to join me for my sessions and was an even better trainer than Annabelle.
I flipped my legs out of bed and stretched again on the edge of the bed, but shivered when the cool air hit my stomach. I quickly climbed off the bed, and walked barefooted towards the bathroom where I could hear the shower running.
I blushed a little when I saw Jax washing his hair, while bubbles and conditioner ran down his strong muscular back, and I got the strangest desire to go over and run my fingers down his back and bite him. I wanted marks on his skin that came from me, in case someone saw him without a shirt on.
“Is that normal?” I asked Ava, who giggled.
“Sorry, that desire came from me”
I laughed, and Jax turned to see me “Morning, what’s so funny?”
“Morning, can I join you?”
“Always”
I smiled and pulled off my clothing “Where’s Cody?”
“Eating breakfast”
“Of course” I smiled and climbed in behind my mate, and ran my fingers over his back, like I’d wanted “Jax?”
“Mmm” He murmered.
“Do you ever get the desire to bite me?” I asked “And I don’t mean, like a playful bite, or biting my mark, I mean, like I want you want to leave marks on me, to show a claim?”
He froze for a moment, before turning around and pushing his wet hair “Do you have that desire?”
“Ava’s pushing it on me” I blushed, and looked at my feet “Is that a normal Lycan thing?”
“It is but..” He gently gripped my chin, and titled my head “It usually happens during s*x, or if you’re pregnant and want other women to know to back off”
My eyes widened, and I looked down at my flat stomach “But, I’m not pregnant”
“No, unless the birth control didn’t work during your heat” He said thoughtfully and touched my stomach “But, I think it was probably the aftermath of that vision or whatever it was, when you were pregnant”
“Oh” I nodded, happy to have an explanation.
Jax held up his arm “Go on then”
“What?”
“Bite me”
“No” I giggled and pushed his arm away “Don’t be silly, I can control this desire”
Jax laughed and picked me up and pinned me to the wall “Bite my mark then, make it fresh”
