“She’s past out” Evet pointed out, but she sounded relieved and not worried, which confused me “Let her sleep, she needs to rest and recover, here”
She dropped the robe, and shifted, before we looked back at her. Nudity wasn’t new to our kind, but it didn’t mean I wanted to see my cousin naked.
I looked back at Koda, who was slipping Maddie into the robe, before he lifted her up into his arms. Knox laid down so Koda could climb onto his back, and we took off back to our grandmother’s home.
“How are we going to do damage control on this?” I asked Koda “She wasn’t even acting like herself, she just lost it”
“She said she hates us” Koda’s voice was pained, and I felt the same.
“She was just upset” I responded, but my own heart was breaking at her words “We shouldn’t have told her the truth”
“I hate that Noland could help her and we couldn’t”
“It doesn’t mean anything” I growled “She’s ours, he means nothing!”
When we arrived back at our grandmother’s, we saw our father’s car, and I felt my heart race.
“Sh*t!” Koda panicked.
“I’ll handle it, take her home” I ordered.
Evet raced in front of us, and went into the house, while Koda and I shifted and placed our girl in the car, and by the time Knox was walking back to the house, Evet came out in a dress holding a pair of pants.
I shifted and grabbed them “Thanks” I said and pulled them on “What’s the atmosphere like inside?”
“Frosty” She answered, looking troubled.
“Let’s get this over with” I rubbed my face and walked inside.
I found my father and grandmother talking in the sitting room, but the second they saw us, they fell silent for a moment.
“You have one chance to convince me that she’s not a threat!” He shouted in my face “This is unacceptable!”
“I know” I agreed “She didn’t mean it, she lost control, she’s still learning to control Ava, and she was upset. We were told something about her mother, and she lost it”
“She accused me of killing her mother”
“Well, did you?”
“How dare you speak to your grandmother like that!” My father shouted “Of course she didn’t kill her”
“Did you know that Iyarna came to visit grandmother before Madelyn’s birth?’ I asked.
A look of shock flickered on my father’s face before he controlled himself “Mother?”
“I did not see her, I didn’t know she was alive”
“If you’re telling the truth, then let Madelyn take your memories to prove it”
“I don’t need to prove anything Jaxson!” She screamed in offense “Now get out of my house, and I expect Madelyn to come see me within the next few days to apologize, or I will be demanding she is punished for her foul behavior!”
“Yes, grandmother” I said quickly “I’m sorry for what happened, I will ask her to apologize”
“No, you won’t ask her to, you will tell her to, or she will be spending the night in the prison, and neither of you boys will be taking the punishment for her”
“Not even you get to decide that” I pointed out “A mate can take any punishment for their mate”
“Just get her temper in check” He commented angrily “We can not afford for her to lose it like her mother did!”
“It wasn’t her fault” Evet defended her “She nearly molted today, that messes with her emotions, she couldn’t control herself”
“How do you know that?” I turned on her
She shrugged “I’ve been researching about Phoenix since meeting Maddie”
“Researching how?” I inquired “The books I’ve found don’t have anything useful”
“They… they belonged to my mother” She admitted “She must have gotten them from Fenrir”
“Can I borrow them?”
“Sure” She nodded “I’ll bring them to you later”
“Thanks”
MADELYN’S POV – FLASH BACK
“LUNA!”
I looked up to see Rick shaking me gently, while someone I didn’t know held something against the side of my head. I was so confused. What was happening? I could smell blood and my body was shaking in pain.
“She’s waking up!” Rick shouted at someone over his shoulder “Luna, can you hear me?”
“Yes, why are you shouting, what’s going on? Where are the twins?”
I looked around, my head was killing me and I noticed that I was still at the Queen mothers house, but I was lying on the ground in Rick’s lap in front of the gate.
Wasn’t I in the forest? Where? I couldn’t stop myself from bursting into tears, I was so scared. What just happened? Did I attack everyone or was it a dream?
“It’s alright Luna, Madelyn, please don’t cry”
“What happened?”
“You got out of the car, but then your eyes started glowing, and you passed out, you hit your head on the front of the car, so please try not to move, you’re bleeding.
“Did I attack anyone?” I asked.
“No, of course not” Rick answered.
“But, I attacked the guards, and nearly molted”
“Molted?” He asked “What’s that? Luna, I think you need a healer”
My eyes were burning and everything was fuzzy. So, none of that was real? I could feel my body temperature was hotter than normal, but thankfully it was nothing like in that vision.
Noland had helped me. So he really was my Keeper.
“How is she?” I heard the Queen mothers voice.
