How did hitching a ride turn into landing a job?
As strange as it was, I adapted quickly. “That’s fine. We still have some time before the airport; why not send me the itinerary now?”
Beta Sawyer chuckled softly. “No rush for that.”
I nodded, settling back in my seat.
While we spoke, my phone-silenced earlier-buzzed with several missed calls. Harlow had called too.
Turning slightly away, I returned her call. “Harlow.”
“Xavien found your flight information,” she said anxiously. “He’s rushing to the airport now.”
“This bastard has lost his mind, Celina. You should turn back and hide somewhere for now.”
I rubbed my forehead thoughtfully. “Hmm, let me think.”
After hanging up, I stared out the window. A heavy weight settled in my chest, cold and oppressive, like fog rolling in off the sea.
The car fell silent. Everyone had overheard my conversation with Harlow.
Sebastian said nothing.
Lian, unable to hold back his concern, offered reassurance. “Don’t worry. Alpha Sebastian has a private jet. The car can drive right onto the tarmac. That man won’t be able to track or find you.”
My face brightened immediately.
“That’s wonderful!”
Who knew traveling with an Alpha heir could come with such advantages?
Sebastian glanced at me, a hint of approval in his eyes.
“Celina, you’re quite resourceful.”
I said nothing.
–
Xavien searched the airport thoroughly but found no sign of Celina. Unable to locate her boarding information, he assumed she had changed her mind and left.
He never imagined the truth-that she was already miles above him, seated in Sebastian’s private jet.
The cabin was quiet and spacious, more like a luxurious lounge than an airplane.
The air was crisp, carrying a subtle, clean fragrance that soothed the senses.
Every surface gleamed, every detail whispered of wealth and control.
As the plane ascended into the clouds, a sensation of weightlessness pressed against Celina’s chest-a physical echo of the emotional shift within her.
She leaned toward the window, gazing down at the terminal below, picturing Xavien’s frantic, enraged state-veins bulging, eyes wild, murderous.
A brief smile flickered across her lips before her expression turned distant.
Once the plane leveled off, flight attendants moved with quiet precision, laying out an extravagant breakfast.
Celina’s appetite was nearly gone; she ate very little.
Her hunger had disappeared somewhere between relief and uncertainty.
Sitting back with a straight spine, hands folded gently in her lap, her eyes drifted to the endless, untouchable clouds outside.
Yet, peace remained just beyond reach.
“Celina.”
Sebastian’s voice cut through the calm-cool, composed, and steady.
But not without feeling.
She turned slightly, pulled from her reverie like a thread unraveling.
“If you’re going to carry this employment altogether with you,” he said, “perhaps we should reconsider your…”
Celina
Sebastian’s voice sliced through the fog of my thoughts like a shard of ice, sharp and unyielding.
I turned on instinct, feeling the full weight of his gaze cutting across the aisle toward me.
It was intense-piercing and possessive, as if he claimed me with just his eyes.
A flush of heat crept up my cheeks, betraying the turmoil stirring inside me.
His eyes were dark and unreadable, yet locked onto mine with an unwavering focus, daring me not to look away.
It was as if I belonged beneath that intense scrutiny, as if I were his alone.
“I apologize, Alpha Sebastian,” I murmured, lowering my head slightly, though not completely. “It won’t happen again.”
A heavy silence followed.
Then his voice broke through-cool, low, and cutting the air like a blade.
“One would hope.”
But there was more than just reprimand in his tone.
There was a warning buried beneath it, a silent claim.
It felt as though my very attention, even my thoughts, were his to command-and he had no intention of sharing.
A confusing warmth coiled low in my stomach, unwelcome and hard to place.
I told myself it was irritation, but a small part of me wasn’t so sure.
Across from me, Beta Sawyer shifted slightly in his seat. His posture stiffened and he cleared his throat once-quiet, but impossible to miss.
He didn’t speak, but the glance he cast between Sebastian and me was loud with meaning: uncertain, maybe even uneasy.
I couldn’t tell if he was trying to silently back me up or just hoping the tension would dissolve quickly.
Either way, the atmosphere felt thick with unspoken pressure.
Soon after, the flight attendant returned to clear away our breakfast trays and offer fresh coffee.
Sebastian allowed himself barely ten minutes of rest before plunging into a relentless string of video conferences.
For the next five hours, he was fully occupied-whether in meetings, on phone calls, or reviewing documents.
Beta Sawyer stayed sharp, immediately flagging urgent matters from their emails, triggering fresh rounds of calls and video meetings.
The pace was unyielding-no different from being back at corporate headquarters.
When Beta Sawyer finally found a moment to breathe, I gestured for him to join me at the rear of the cabin.
“Can you fill me in on the details of this business trip?” I asked quietly. “I need to understand everything if I’m going to keep pace with Alpha Sebastian’s work rhythm.”
He nodded and sent me the itinerary for the coming days.
Our first stop was Singapore, primarily to inspect the branch office there.
In addition, Alpha Sebastian had meetings lined up with government officials and key business partners.
“This is just the beginning,” Beta Sawyer said in a low voice. “Over the next six months, we’ll be visiting branch offices all over the world.”
“I see.”
It made perfect sense.
Sebastian had recently taken up leadership of the pack’s business interests once again.
As the newly appointed Alpha CEO, he needed to assert his authority.
Even as heir apparent, there would be those who doubted his capabilities.
He needed to deliver results, assert dominance, and shake things up.
A new Alpha always meant potential shifts in the hierarchy.
“Why Singapore first?” I whispered, genuinely curious. “Is there a special reason?”
