Chapter 24 – Avery and Heartless Gideon: A Werewolf Romance

Bugs? What bugs?!

Whatever it was, I didn’t plan on waiting around to find out. I tried to work faster. If I could just get these knots undone, I could try to slip into the trees and disappear.

I was beginning to make progress loosening the knots when I heard a sinister clicking sound.

Something was crawling towards me across the ground.

It had a sinuous black body that glinted in the moonlight. Far too many legs swam along its sides. Huge orange pincers were at the front of its head, while long stingers trailed off of its tail.

So, this was how my captors planned on securing my cooperation.

I screamed as the creature swarmed towards me. Its sharp jaws waved as it, scurried across the forest floor.

“No, no!” I shrieked as it crawled across my boot and up my leg.

I tried to kick at it, but was too fast. It was already crawling under my clothing and up my leg.

I tried to bring my hands down to knock it away, but the rope was too short and I couldn’t reach!

With a horrifying hiss, the creature plunged its fangs into me.

I screamed as tremendous pain like the stinging of a thousand wasps punctured the inside of my thigh. I could see the creature pumping venom into the bite.

Pain flooded my sight with darkness, I tried to keep breathing, tried to maintain consciousness. My strength was flowing away, drained by the poison pumping through my body. I lay moaning on the forest floor.

I dragged myself to the tree and leaned against it, panting. Even that small distance had sapped me of all my energy.

Suddenly, screams and commotion filled the forest glade. I heard the sounds of a struggle, and the horrible rending of flesh. The sounds died away.

Someone was walking towards me out of the darkness.

“No, no, no!” I cried out.

Would my mark save me?

It lay dormant and did nothing.

A pair of strong legs and boots appeared in my vision. I kicked at them.

The person ducked and grabbed my ankles in their strong hands.

With a shock, I realized it was Gideon. His strong, handsome face solidified out of the darkness, frowning at me as he easily subdued my kicks.

“Get up,” he growled.

I stared at him in shock. Where had he come from? What had happened to the people who had been imprisoning me here?

“Up.” Gideon’s hands removed the rope from the tree, and he pulled me to my feet. He quickly untied my hands, tossing the rope to the side.

“Let’s go.” he said. When I didn’t move, he tugged at my arm. I took a step forward and screamed with pain. The bite on the inside of my thigh was excruciating. I fell back to the ground.

Gideon’s hands were on my legs again. Deftly, he moved the layers of clothing to the side until he found the bite. I looked down, seeing the puncture mark on my thigh and the red skin on either side.

Gideon sighed and leaned forward, kneeling on the ground between my legs. His hands cleared the area around the wound of fabric, pulling it roughly to the side. The bite was relatively high on my inner thigh.

Swiftly, he parted my thighs and leaned down as though he was about to place his mouth over the wound.

“What are you-?” I breathed, “No, don’t!” I kicked out and tried to push myself backwards away from him.

Gideon gave me a quelling glance.

“Don’t act up, unless you want to die,” he said, coldly. He firmly grabbed my leg again, yanking me towards him, and dipped his head.

Seeing the Nightwolf Alpha on his knees between my legs was shocking. I tried to look away, to think about anything else. It was so awkward to have him touching me like this.

I felt embarrassed that, once again, Gideon had to come to my rescue. He would think I was so useless.

Our intimate position was mortifying as he prepared to suck the venom from my wound. The way my clothing was ripped away was very exposing.

I couldn’t imagine my old Alpha in Silvermoon doing this for me, or anyone. Even Ryan would probably have just left me to die.

“How can you do this?” I gasped as Gideon’s lips grazed my thigh.

Gideon raised his head to glare at me. His eyes flashed yellow in the darkness, and his voice was bitterly cold as he snapped, Don’t overthink this. My reputation is bad enough, without leaving my fianc?e to die for no reason.”

“l

I fell silent, considering his words. Certainly, his reputation was already sinister. Another unexplained missing female tied to Gideon would only add to his alleged list of crimes.

And yet, he truly hadn’t seemed to care at all about his reputation before. Why would he start now?

Once more, Gideon’s hands gripped my thigh firmly, keeping me from moving. He lowered his head, and gently placed his mouth over the bite. His lips felt warm and soft on my skin, and I fought the urge to wiggle.

I groaned as he began to suck the poison from the wound. The relief of pressure was instantaneous. Carefully and meticulously, he spat the venom to the side and then returned to place his mouth on me again.

Looking at his head between my legs made me feel another way as well. The way he firmly held me in place. His mouth closed over my skin.

To my shame, I felt I wasn’t as indifferent to Gideon as I had hoped. My body was reacting quite strongly to his presence…

Avery’s POV

I lay stiff and awkward as Gideon’s mouth moved on my thigh.

I stared at the stars overhead and tried to think about anything else.

Not about how I could feel the slight scratch of stubble on his cheek where it scratched on my delicate skin.

Not about how hot his lips and tongue felt.
