“I want to go outside!” She shouted.
I shifted in my chair and told her to cut it out again, and this time she growled at me and curled up angrily. I didn’t know what had gotten into her this morning. I was also feeling a little uncomfortable. I’d had this strange knot in my stomach for the past hour, and I couldn’t push away this feeling that something was wrong.
“Baby, are you okay?” Koda linked me “I know these meetings are boring, but we’re nearly finished”
“Its not that, I feel… I feel strange, and Ava’s restless”
“I thought we did a good job of scr*wing the restlessness out of you last night, and this morning?”
“KODA!” I scolded him “Don’t be crass!”
“Sorry dear” He commented, and I noticed him smiling to himself, as he continued to listen to the speaker.
It was only a few seconds later that I felt a sharp pain in my chest, and I gasped and fell forward onto my hands and knees.
“MADELYN!” Jaxson was at my side, gently rubbing my back in a second.
“What’s wrong?” Koda asked, but I was finding it difficult to breathe.
“Madelyn?” Queen Kara asked me “Do you need a healer?”
The pain intensified, but there was something else now, a strange pull, I could smell and taste fire on the wind, and it was intoxicating. It reminded me of the day I met the dragon in the lobby of the tower.
“Where did she get that coffee?” The King asked “Did someone drug her?”
I saw Jaxson’s hand shoot out and grab my drink. He sniffed it and shook his head “It’s not poisoned”
“Baby?” Koda whispered, when I groaned in pain again and held my chest.
“I can’t breathe properly” I whined “It feels like all the air’s being sucked away, and all I can smell is fire, it’s so… intoxicating”
“Fire?” Beta Rkyer asked.
“Everyone out!” King Theo stood up and pointed to the door.
The council members filed out, all except for Cole and Ryker, who stayed with me, the twins and the King and Queen.
I felt another strange pull, and I looked over to the window.
“Madelyn, do you feel like your heart’s on fire?” Ryker asked, as he came over to us.
“Yes” I nodded.
“And do you feel like there’s fire all around you?”
“Yes” I said again “It’s calling to me”
“Dragons” Ryker turned to the King and Queen “And judging by the pain she’s in, there’s a lot”
“How do you know?”
“There’s a reason the Phoenix went to war with the dragons” The King told me “When a Phoenix gets close to a dragon, they feel a pull of the dragon’s fire, it becomes like a drug, and when it’s in large concentrations, they can’t resist it, Madelyn’s in pain because no ones ever taught her how to channel it”
“We need to worry about that later” The Queen told everyone “Madelyn, which way is this pull coming from?”
“That way” I pointed towards the mountains out the window.
“I need you to concentrate” King Theo knelt in front of me and touched my shoulder “Close your eyes, and try to focus on them, I need to know how many there are”
I took a breath and closed my eyes and the moment I focused on this pull, it was like my mind was pulled towards it, I saw everything, I saw the city, I saw the crop fields around it, and I saw the forest after that, and then the mountains that we could see from the window, and there flying over them were eleven huge silver dragons.
I pulled back and started taking deep heavy breathes, as I felt something drip from my nose.
“Sh*t” Koda gasped, and then he held a handkerchief to my nose.
“Dragons” I slowly sat back, and took over holding the handkerchief “Eleven, by the mountains”
“What color are they?” Jaxson asked.
“Silver, does that matter?”
“It matters” Koda answered.
“Get the troops ready” The Queen turned to Ryker “I want the sirens on and the force field up”
“Jaxson, Koda, get your troops ready, and I want you out within the hour”
“What’s happening?” I asked and looked from Jax to Koda as Ryker ran from the room “They might just be visiting, we don’t have to fight them”
“Silver dragons are from Amaru clan” Jax touched my face “They aren’t part of the treaty”
“If they’re attacking, it must have something to do with Fenrir”
“You think he’s attacked another dragon clan?” Koda asked his father.
“Obviously!” King Theo shouted angrily “Only this time, King Kenan used it as an excuse to attack us again instead of just blaming my brother…. I WANT THIS F*CKING PR*CK FOUND!”
“Boys get to your stations” The Queen ordered.
“I’m coming”
“The hell you are” Jaxson turned on me “This time, you’re going to go to our hidden bunker, and I’ll be locking you in personally, can you walk?”
“I..’
Before I could finish answering, Koda lifted me from the ground, and carried me from the room, just as sirens began to sound through the city.
“I have legs, I can walk”
“I know” Koda smiled “And they’re a fine set of legs, I wish I could be between them right now”
“Stop it” I blushed and looked around. We were in the hallway where a few pack members were rushing to the exit to go to their various bunkers “If I’m being forced to hide, shouldn’t I stay with that pack?”
“No” Jaxson answered as we reached the elevator “Don’t ask again”
“I should be with the pack” I told them “I’ll be safe if I’m with them, it’s not like someone can try something if I’m around everyone”
“No” Jaxson said firmly “End of discussion”
