Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 256 – Mated To My Obsessive Stepbrother (Kester & Kasmine) Novel Free Online by Velvet Desires

If I’d just protected her better… If I hadn’t been so fucking careless… I shouldn’t have…

“Fuck!” I slammed my hand against the steering wheel as I pressed harder on the gas pedal, flooring the accelerator.

“Slow the fuck down,” my wolf growled inside my head. “You want to die before we even see her?”

She was mad at me, and I fucking let her stay mad. If I had made more effort to talk to her, maybe she wouldn’t have had the need to leave the house that night.

I don’t know how I got there so fast. But the moment I pulled up to the edge of the field, I slammed the brakes, killing the engine in a screech of tires.

I was out before the car fully stopped.

Everyone was waiting.

Perfect.

I closed the distance between us and headed straight for one of the two Black Hawks U-60 waiting for takeoff in the large field.

Everyone looked at me like I had a demon on a leash with me. But trust me, I didn’t pay any attention to them.

The chopper rocked slightly as we ascended.

“How far are they?” I asked Saint, who was strapping himself in beside me.

“Less than two hours out,” he muttered.

“Talk to me,” I said, not taking my eyes off the fast-approaching sky. “Where the fuck is he?”

Saint pulled up a satellite map on his tablet and angled it toward me.

“He will dock just outside Port Angeles. There’s a crumbling old factory house not too far from the shoreline, less than half a mile inland. Used to be a resident for the textile workers. That’s where they’re taking her.”

I frowned. “Why move her inland?”

“Because they’re prepping for an exchange. The buyers don’t want a scene. Too many eyes on the harbor these days. The house is remote, and it’s close enough to the Canadian border through upstate New York for them to drive her out after the deal’s sealed. Once they cross, it’s straight to Montreal and from there, a flight out to Asia. We have to be there before they arrive.”

Something felt off.

Why did I feel this doubt as if things were finally moving too smoothly? Why did I feel like something bad was about to happen? You know… Like that calm before a massacre…

Fuck. No.

There was no way in hell I’d let anything bad happen to Kasmine or our baby.

My fingers kept twitching. I yanked at a few strands of hair and scrubbed my palms down my face a few times than I can count, until finally, we descended. I could’ve sworn we were flying forever.

We jumped down and immediately, everyone took position.

“Stay with Brie. I’ll give my signal when it’s time to go in.” Saint said, lighting a cigarette and walking away.

What? Did he take me to be a fucking weakling or a goddamn toddler needing a babysitter? Why hand me over to the little genius lady like I was some kind of liability?

Norlan had no problem staying with his genius girl for this op, but me? There was no way in hell I’d do that.

“I’m coming with you,” I snapped, already walking behind him.

He stopped. So did his Beta.

Same fucking mannerisms. Like two Al-programmed stunt doubles.

“You’re not,” Saint dragged his words, and it fucking grated on nerves I thought I’d lost, “This is my op. You follow my lead, or you deal with the fallout when shit hits the fan.”

He didn’t even wait for a response. He just took a slow drag from his cigarette and kept walking,

Was that a threat?

I scoffed under my breath.

“Just listen to him, Kes,” Norlan said, tapping my shoulder softly. “Let them handle it their way.”

“For the sake of his fucking ego,” I muttered, “I hope this goes off without a hitch.”

KASMINE.

I must’ve blacked out the moment that hot iron touched my skin, but I didn’t know how long I was gone.

By the time I opened my eyes, everything was spinning. My vision was blurry, my head pounded, and my body felt like it had been dragged through hell.

Because it had.

I was slung over someone’s shoulder-one of Nagel’s men, I guess. We weren’t on the boat anymore. We were somewhere on land.

The air reeked of mold and metal. I couldn’t keep my eyes open for long, but I caught glimpses of cracked walls, broken windows, and a filthy wooden floor covered in dirt and old blood stains.

The man dropped me harshly on the dusty floor. I groaned but didn’t have the strength to do anything else.

My body was fried and numb… but my brain? Oh, it was starting to catch up real quick. I wasn’t the only one there. The room that looked like an abandoned living room was full of movement, like some sick deal was about to go down and the devil was already circling the block.

Scary-looking men with big guns moved around urgently, almost as if they were behind schedule for hell.

Girls were also lined up. They looked like if they were given a choice, they would rather be elsewhere than here.

Pain screamed through every inch of my body when I forced myself to sit up. This scene was beginning to look scarier than I thought. Every single ache was feeling faded away for a moment.

Iwas

Nagel was barking orders and flipping between calls. And from all I was able to gather, some people would be arriving in less than twenty minutes to pick up some products.

But why did I feel like these products had nothing to do with substances or industrially made goods? Why did I feel like these so-called products had everything to do with anything with a slit between their legs who were actually in this room right now?

And why did I feel like I’d be at the front row of this transaction?

I swallowed a dry lump when realization slowly began to set in, and a small, mocking voice began to giggle in my head, snickering like it had already accepted my fate.

“He’s not coming to save you.”

The voice was on constant replay, no matter how hard I tried to shut it out.

And the worst part?

I was starting to believe it.

My fingers dug into my arms as I hugged my knees to stop myself from shaking as I thought of all the horror I’d go through from this point of my life.

And I had no one to blame but myself.

I didn’t even try to hold the tears back. Let them come. There’s more where those came from. What was the point of pretending to be strong now?

“Too thin,” I heard Nagel’s ugly voice before he gutted one of the girls with his silver knife.
