Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 31 – Getting His Mate in Exchange

“Actually, I’m used to it,” I whispered as I sat close to the edge of the bed with my back slightly facing him. “I am used to it. Growing up, I always had strangers pointing at me as the girl with no wolf and random people walking up to me to ask how it feels to be the only human amid wolves,”

“How does that make you feel?” He asked in a much softer tone than the last question he had asked me.

“It made me feel small and irrelevant,” I replied sincerely.

And he exhaled. “When I became crippled, I heard all kinds of manners of things about me, and it broke me; people who I thought were loyal to me turned their back on me because I was crippled and made ridicule of the throne because it was ruled by a cripple Alpha,”

“How did you cope with all that?” I asked as empathy could be heard all over my face and voice.

“At first the pain was traumatic and suffering became my best friend, my wife was cheating on me with the man who was supposed to have my back at all times, I was an object of ridicule all through the realm and there was nothing worse than not having control of the situation around you.”

He spoke at length, and for the first time since I got married to him, I saw him for exactly who he was. A man who has been hurt but learned to live above the pain, and that’s the true definition of strength.

“When I was young, I always thought you were a strong Alpha, but I see today you aren’t just strong but brave.”

He smiled, “Was that a compliment that finally came from you?”

I chuckled and took a throw pillow and aimed in his direction, “no it wasn’t,”

“Yes, it was,” he grinned, “and Edwina, one thing with situations like this it reveals things to you in its truest form,”

I nod my head in agreement, understanding perfectly what he meant. If I had not been born without a wolf, I wouldn’t have figured out how cruel they are.

“and it also gets you amazing car sex,” he teased, and I laughed.

For the first time since we got married, I had seen a side to him in a way I had never done. We spent the rest of the night talking about how people had tried to bring us down with words, and I found that one thing I had in common with him.

Alexander’s POV…

I woke up the following day to the hanging smell of her perfume. I knew she said she would be going to the prison today, but I never assumed it would be this early. I do not like the idea of her visiting her ex-husband in prison, and neither do I like that she has this need to be at peace with him. Like the man fucking slept with your sister, and you want to make peace?

But after all the conversations we had yesterday, she had asked me if I had visited Sonia since the incident had happened, and I had said no.

When I realized there was a rumor going around the realm about her cheating and being caught in ungodly hours coming out of a particular private house with Ben, I had not believed it. I had thought it was too sudden and stupid to be cheating on me right under my nose. And then I was attacked by the sizzlers and rendered crippled, it was one of the most horrific experiences of my life, and my wife was always absent, it was either she was going to one function or had an engagement.

Some I would even call to confirm, and they would say she had not attended it, it was too glaring to the eyes not to see, but I chose to still remain blind. Then I started noticing her having morning sickness. I wanted to believe she had come done with something, but it was too frequent to be that stupid. Then I asked Caleb to investigate, and my suspicions were confirmed.

She was having an affair with Ben. I didn’t act on the new information I had found out that time because I wanted to know their next move.

Since I had been crippled, Sonia had refused to have sex with me, but then she started initiating sex, and I would always refuse her. I then figured out she was trying to push the pregnancy on me.

And that was when I confronted her and Ben.

They had gone out for one of their usual meetups outside town, and I had followed them with Caleb and some of the omega wolves because I knew Ben was a strong Beta and wouldn’t go down without a fight.

We met them in a small cottage house, both in their wolf form, having sex, and I was disgusted and irritated by the act. We tried to capture them, and as speculated, Ben gave us a hard time, but they were able to tame him down.

Now I am in the car with Caleb, driving to the night howlers penitentiary.

“Are you sure you want to go there?” Caleb asked for the umpteenth time since I told him I wanted to go visit Sonia today at the prison.

“Yes, Caleb, I am sure,” I replied adamantly. Knowing Caleb, he had a lot of unpopular opinions as to why I shouldn’t, but I wasn’t going to listen to him. After my conversation with Edwina last night, I found out that was a part of my truth I had not confronted, and I needed to do so.

“I am sure Caleb,” I repeated again just to stop the look he was giving me through the rearview mirror.

“And if I may ask, what informed your decision to finally see Sonia today?” he said, still keeping his hands firm on the steering wheels and his arms straight.

“I am sure you know how some days can be, just wake up and feel like you need to face a particular chapter of your life,” I replied sarcastically, and he smiled because he understood my humor perfectly well. He took the last turn that led to the female prison, which wasn’t too far from the male.

“And surprisingly, that day happened to be the same day your wife decided to also face hers.” He muttered, and I smiled.

“Coincidence,” I scoffed, and he smiled and swiveled his hands right to park in a good parking space.

“We are here, good luck,” he said.

“Thanks,” the guards immediately came saluting me and even helped me into my wheelchair. As the Alpha, I didn’t have to go through any of the rigorous processes of checking in.

I sat down in the private waiting room, nervously waiting for the door to open so she would work in. I must admit I was both anxious and curious at the same time to know what I would feel about all this. I had instructed the guard not to inform her who had come to see her, so she was clueless about my presence. I had also thought about how much it would take for her to talk to me, but the Sonia I had come to know is always strong. As the door flew open and she walked in with an orange jumpsuit, and her belly protruded, she immediately came to an abrupt halt as her gaze met with mine.

She was shocked, and I could see it written all over her eyes. I was the last person she had expected to see, and when the door banged shut, locking us inside, she startled back. Reality and all I had experienced from her came back as a vivid memory to me.

From the Deceit, lies, rejection, and everything in between. Sonia had done what no other woman had ever done to me, and I couldn’t blame her.

She wanted a particular kind of life, and she felt I couldn’t give it to her.

Shit!!!!

Shit!!!!
