Chapter 31 – The Alpha She Does Not Care (Wynta & Jared) Novel

She organized a meeting with her team so she could see what they were all up to and what she had missed. When she looked about her office and saw there were notes on her pinboard not in her handwriting, she got up and walked over there to read them.

Tallah walked over to her. “Edward brought in a replacement supervisor for while you were off sick.” She nodded. “His name is Dwane, apparently he’s the Head of Marketing in the European Division of Hayes Industries.”

She sighed internally to herself but asked, “Did he change much?” If he was the head of the marking department, she’d have to take anything he did into account as well as his notes and ideas.

“There was an adjustment period,” Tallah nodded. “He’s… well, I guess very pushy in getting what he wants. We had to kind of remind him he wasn’t in Europe a few times, and that some of the strategies he was trying to employ wouldn’t work here in the U.S. that we do things a bit differently.” She shook her head a little.

“How’d that go down?” she asked curiously.

“So-so. We’re glad to have you back. He kind of barked orders at us all the time.”

That made her snort, “Used to getting what he wants, in other words, and no push back.” She nodded.

“Yeah, he snapped at us once, “Are you deaf?” And then kind of checked himself and apologized. Something about we didn’t hear him asking for something specific, but he didn’t ask any of us. There was a discussion over lunch about it. He hadn’t even come out of your office all morning. It was odd.” She shook her head. “He’s odd, nice looking but odd.”

Wynta nodded and could only guess he worked in an office full of wolves, back in Europe, and those that worked for him likely kept their ears open for his orders at all times. So him not calling out or getting up and asking her team for something, meant they didn’t hear him. When in his natural environment, every verbal request from his office was likely met by one employee or another.

Though why he was seated in her office she didn’t know, and why hadn’t he gone back to Europe? Those four wolves had only come home for the Luna Ceremony. She knew Jared and his unit did not live here in the States. They should have gone back by now.

She let it go and moved on with her day, only to be called to a meeting with Jared himself. Apparently he had an office here now, up on the 10th floor. She had no idea what it was for, and it was just a request to come and see him a few minutes before she knocked off.

Wynta didn’t rush to go up there. Her staff were still in the office but packing up when she took herself to have that meeting. His secretary, a she-wolf named Stacey, looked at her and frowned for a moment after realizing she was a rogue, so she introduced herself, “Ms Wynta Morgan, I was requested to come and see Mr Hayes.”

“Oh.” She nodded, and her eyes glazed over for a few seconds. “It’ll be a few minutes; he’s on the phone. Take a seat over there.” she was told as Stacey turned back to her work and pointed at a chair.

Wynta looked at her watch. “I clock out in seven minutes, if he’s still on the phone then, I’ll take my leave, and he can reschedule it.” she stated as she sat down.

“You can’t have him reschedule appointments around one like you,” Stacey told her in a matter-of-fact tone. “He’s an Alpha, and you’re just a rogue.” She shook her head as I was dismayed that Wynta would even state that.

Wynta nodded, “Yes, I am, and I don’t have to comply with pack rules or protocols, because I don’t have to answer to any Alpha. Not even yours. Mr Hayes already knows this,” she stated, and saw Stacy blink at her casually worded come back. And then go to say something only to have Jared step out of his office, and she snapped her mouth closed in response to seeing.

“Would you like to state it anyway?” Wynta asked her as she got up from her chair. “I won’t take offense to it, I don’t care what you think of me or my rogue status.”

“What is going on?” Jared asked, looking from her to his secretary and back.

“Nothing Alpha, Ms Morgan took my words wrong is all.” She bowed her head by way of apology.

He nodded. “Wynta, please come in, how’s your knee today?” he asked, and she saw Stacey’s jaw tighten at the familiarity of his words. “Stacey, you’ll stay back, and we’ll discuss your attitude after Wynta leaves.”

“Yes, Alpha.” Stacey murmured.

Wynta nearly laughed but didn’t. That was exactly what she didn’t have to do: bow her head and apologize, be subservient, if she thought she’d offended an Alpha. “What did you want to see me for Mr Hayes?” she asked as she walked passed by him, not even addressing him as an Alpha like the wolves of his pack had to.

“Have a seat.” He waved her to the one across from his own. He had a nice view of the city from up here.

“Why? Is it going to be a long discussion, I clock off in.” She looked at her watch, “Five minutes now.”

“Still difficult I see,” he stated, and she picked up a bit of annoyance from him.

“Some things never change.” She nodded. “What did you want to see me for?” She repeated herself as she watched him open a closet and get out a dress bag. He walked over and opened it for her to see. “I asked you to come, so I can give you a replacement for the dress you were wearing that got ruined. I feel that was on me. So, I bought a replacement for it.”

She looked at the dress, it was the same one, even the same color, but she didn’t need nor want him to replace it. That could be seen as her accepting a gift from him, and maybe he could twist that into her owing him something in return.

“There was no need for you to do that. It’s just a dress. Give that to someone who will appreciate it,” she shook her head no.
