‘Awesome’ He smiled as we began walking towards the throne room ‘So… Will the lovely Evet be getting an invite out tonight as well?’
I groaned and punched him ‘Stay the h*ll away from my cousin or I’ll have you flogged’
‘Oh come on’ Cole complained. ‘You could at least help a brother out, she won’t even look twice at me’
‘Good’ I exhaled ‘How many times does she have to turn you down, after how clingy Linken got, shes decided to wait for her mate now so just let it go’
‘No’ He smirked ‘I have to at least have her once before her mate scoops her up and speaking of which, I heard that some werewolf brat is claiming your girl’
I growled angrily and Cole tensed ‘He can claim whatever he wants, but she’s mine and Koda’s’
‘How come she didn’t mark you then?’ He asked
‘She wasn’t ready’ I explained ‘She… it’s complicated, but I assure you, in a day, maybe two, she will be marked’
‘Your parents aren’t going to like it’
‘I know’
My office door opened as we went to walk past it and Lucy, mine and Koda assistant walked out looking flustered
‘Oh, good morning Alpha’ She smiled ‘Good morning Beta Cole’
‘Good morning to you Lucy’ Coles eyes ran down her fit body ‘You are looking very lovely today, did you dress up just for me?’
‘In your dreams’ She snapped back and I laughed ‘Congratulations Alpha’
‘Thank you’
‘The King and Queen are in the throne room with the council already, and want you to go straight there when you arrive’
‘Already on my way’
‘Apparently another Alpha has been killed’ Lucy went on nervously ‘This time a Lycan one’
‘Are you serious?’ Cole turned to look at me with shock.
‘Yes sir’ She answered.
This was getting out of hand. In the past year alone, three werewolf Alphas, had been killed, not that I really cared, we only looked into it because of the peace treaty, but this, one of our own, this couldn’t be tolerated.
‘And the Queen wants to talk about the coronation’ Lucy went on as she looked at her phone where she often kept her notes ‘And you have already received several congratulatory gifts for meeting your mate, I have them in the office but I will organize them to be sent to your home’
‘Thank you’ I began walking again and she had to jog a little to keep up, her legs were a lot shorter than mine and Coles.
‘And there has been a few gifts and messages for the Luna too’ She told me ‘Mostly just the elders wives wanting to meet her and a few of the pack’s elites’
‘Trying to get in good with her already’ Cole smiled in amusement ‘They don’t waste much time, do they. The girl hasn’t even been the Luna for a full day yet’
“I will pass them on to her but she won’t be seeing any of them until she’s marked” I told her.
“I will send notes to them letting them know it’s not convenient right now, perhaps in a week’s time would be better”
“Thanks”
“Also, a werewolf Alpha, Alpha Troy” Lucy said his name and I got the urge to punch something “He is demanding to speak with the council about the situation with your mate, he is claiming that the Luna is rightfully theirs and, under the treaty, a Lycan can no longer claim a werewolves mate”
I growled angrily and I balled my hands up into fists “Unless the mate chooses to reject the werewolf and be with the Lycan” I pointed out through clenched teeth “And she rejected the dog before she even knew us”
“Sounds like this mutt doesn’t like losing” Cole said
“I don’t care” I shook my head as we paused by the golden glass doors to the throne room “She isn’t going back to the dam pack, in fact, Koda and I are going to wipe it out altogether. Cole, after the meeting this morning, I want you to find out everything you can about this Alpha Troy, there has to be a reason he’s refusing to let Madelyn go”
“I will find out what I can” Cole said and went into other throne room ahead of me.
“Lucy” I turned back to her “Find out what you can about Troy’s mate, I got the impression she doesn’t know who her mate really is, we could use her”
“Yes Alpha”
I turned and headed into the throne room where my parents were sitting on a raised stage while the other councilors were seated in two rows with a free hallway space in between.
I walked down the length of the space and bowed to my parents but when I went to take my seat my mother rose her hand.
‘Stop’ She said calmly but her eyes darkened ‘Do you want to explain to us why you aren’t marked yet?’
I gulped and bowed my head again ‘Madelyn was feeling overwhelmed by the events of last night and has asked for us to postpone her marking”
“For how long?” My father asked, and I heard a movement behind me as the councilors turned and looked at each other, no doubt discussing this in private through the link
“Just a few days”
“A few days” My father’s Beta, Beta Ryker stood up and joined me in front of my parents.
He bowed and turned to me “We can not allow this, you have to mark your mate today, even your parents marked each other straight away, and they met in the middle of a battle field”
“When I mark my mate is none of your concern” I said firmly “What is your concern however, is keeping your daughter in check, when Koda broke up with her, she didn’t take it well and if she even tries to harm my mate in any way, I will have her head”
Ryker was Blake’s father, that’s how we’d met her, we watched her grow up, and she was always infatuated with my id*ot brother.
“Do not threaten my daughter” Ryker growled
I had put up with his cr*p my whole life. He was a miserable b*stard who had some kind of stick up his arse and always advocated waiting for his mate and not sleeping around, he’d often lecture me and Koda and when Koda started dating his daughter, he was furious and tried to split them up, it was one of the few times I was on Rykers side but it didn’t work
“Enough” My father shouted, and the room fell silent “Sit down, both of you”
“Yes your majesty” I bowed.
“You will give Madelyn the time she needs” He shocked everyone by his statement as Ryker and I sat down on either side of the aisle “But once she is marked, the coronation will take place, as for this other matter, the one with the Alpha, he has requested to speak with us but I pushed him off until tomorrow so we could discuss this matter between ourselves first”
“He isn’t having her!” I slammed my hand down on the ground but my father growled at me in warning
“The Alphas claim is justified” One of the councilors piped up “The treaty is very clear, we can no longer claim werewolves mates”
“Do not talk to me about the treaty” My father snarled “I am the one who wrote it and my son’s have not broken it, the girl rejected the Alphas son prior to meeting the prince’s, the treaty still stands”
“He also has the claim that his pack member was taken from him without the proper procedure”
I growled and glared at the councilor. His name was Jordan, he’d been on the council for only a few yrs now, and I had always hated him, he was a power hungry dog but we needed him, he had contacts everywhere.
