Chapter 35 – Shadowed Bond with Her Alpha

“Then what do you call what you just did?” He asks.

“When you were under the water what did you want? What is the only thing you thought about?” I ask.

“Air. I wanted to breathe, but you wouldn’t let me.” He says.

“Correct. Air is the only thing you thought about. It is the only thing you wanted. Now let me ask you this. Do you want to be a warrior more than anything you have ever wanted?” I ask.

“Yes, but what does drowning me have to do with that?” He says.

“When you were under water you were struggling. You would have given anything to be able to breathe again. You didn’t think about anything else, only air.” I say. He just continues to look at me. “If you want to be a warrior as badly as you say you do. You would do anything to get it. Just like you wanted to breathe when I held you under water. I expect you to push yourself to your limits to become a warrior. If you do not, then you need to choose another occupation, because you obviously do not want this as much as you think you do. Take the rest of the night and think about this lesson. If you decide you need to be a warrior as bad as you feel the need to breathe, then come back to the training ground tomorrow.” I say as I get out of the water and head to the castle.

After I get back to my room, shower and change, I go to the little kitchen and dig up some crackers. I hear Maleena entering from the bedroom and she comes over to steal one of my crackers.

“How was your night?” She asks.

“Productive.” I say back as I hear the door click. Revealing Redna with breakfast and coffee.

“Thank goddess you are here. I was about to start chowing down on Maleena.” I say jokingly.

“Hey!” Maleena says and smacks my arm.

“How’s training going Red?” I ask.

“It’s good, I completely forgot what it was like to train. It is exhausting.” She answers back with a smile.

“Good. That means you are doing something right then.” I answer and go to grab my cup of coffee.

“Oh! Before I forget, the King’s servant asked me to give you this.” She hands me a folded notecard with my name on it. Immediately my gut started turning. I flip open the card and read it. ‘Meet at my office at 10:00. Your’s, Alarick’ I shut the note and closed my eyes taking a deep breath. Reading the Your’s part made small fireflies arise in my stomach and it pissed me off.

“What’s it say?” Maleena asked, trying to take the note from my hand. Redna already left, I didn’t even hear her leave so it was just me and Maleena.

“I have a meeting with him at 10:00.” I say keeping my response short. I saw scrutinization in her eyes. Before she could ask another question I changed the subject.

“You know, you need to graduate highschool. I will give you a couple options. Homeschool and take the test to get your GED, or you can join the highschool here.” I say.

“I would prefer to just get it over with and get my GED, but if I am going to be staying here I should try and make some friends. I’ll join the highschool.” She says, saying the last part grumbly and low. She obviously didn’t want to go to school, but oh well.

“Look at it this way, You only have 6 months left. Then you graduate.” I say. I feel her emotions go from irritated and disappointed to excitement. Before anybody had a chance to say anything else Amara busts through the door holding tools and papers.

“You’re here early.” I say surprised. She normally isn’t even fully up by 8 when we go for coffee. It is 6:30 and she is fully awake and energized.

“I’ve been up since 5 working on sketches for the apartment. I have multiple options and I have people coming in today to start helping with the room. By the end of the day we should have a functional layout of the place. Therefore, we need to start with the whole demolition. There will be a bedroom across the hall you both can use for the time being. By tomorrow you should have at least one room.” She says going through papers and handing them to me and Maleena.

We spend 30 minutes talking about how the layout should be then start the demo on the rest of the apartment, leaving the load bearing wall intact. By the time it is 9:30 I am sweaty and need to take a shower. I go across the hall to the other bedroom we will be using. I walk in and there is a small living area and bar in the corner. The bathroom is attached to the bedroom. I take a shower and get changed into black leggings and a blue and green floral blouse. I look at the time and it is 9:50. I sigh and start to head to Allarick’s office. Slowly but surely I made it there with 5 minutes to spare. “Don’t you dare go in there any earlier than we have to.” Fen spits at me. I just sigh. And knock on his office door anyway.

Come in. I hear that rough, golden voice form the other side. I open the door and see him and Markus talking. I walk over the loveseat and plop down on it. Markus gets up and looks at me then at Alarick.

“Alright you two, don’t go having too much fun now. He says as he walks out of the office door.” I can feel Alarick looking at me and it irritates Fen. I look over to him.

“What are we starting with?” I ask.

“Well we need to go through this checklist of things for the ceremony.” I nod waiting for him to continue. “Are you not going to sit in the chair?” He asks, pointing to the chair across from his desk.

“I wasn’t planning on it.” I say not moving from my spot. He sighs and grabs some papers and sits on the couch next to me. “Dumbass. You should have sat in the chair. Now he is closer and I want to rip his head off even more.” Fen yells at me. “I didn’t think he would move closer. How was I supposed to know?” I argue back.

“Alright so we have a little packet that we need to fill out for the planner. It gives them the basics to go off of. If there is any detail you want you write it in the comments section. After we mail it off we will plan a meeting with the planner to get a better idea of things.” He says handing me a packet of papers. I look at them and see the wedding bells and rings in both the top corners and I feel like I am going to be sick. What the hell was I thinking?

Alarick’s POV

I am sitting in my office doing work. I keep looking at the time. It is 9:30, almost time for this stupid ceremony planning. I sigh and lean back in my chair. Markus walks in and sees me.

“What’s got you looking like that?” He asks, taking a seat in one of the chairs across from my desk.
