Without thinking twice, Zuri ran toward him and hugged him, while behind her, Khaos stopped walking, he watched the reunion of the two siblings in silent.
This was not the first time for Khaos to see Rhett, they met a few times before.
Rhett was the third son of alpha Roland with his first mate. From the information that Khaos got, Rhett loved to travel and was into relic. He appeared a few times in the Three Deadly ways to observe the relic from the lycan Dynasty.
There was nothing suspicious about him, at least for now, aside from his relation to Lucas and the seal he put on that informant.
“Zuri!” Rhett hugged her and kissed her cheek. “I know you will use the secret passage,” he said with a giggle. His eyes softened when he saw his little sister, but his expression hardened the moment his eyes landed on Khaos. “What do you want here, alpha?” He pulled Zuri behind his back, but she retaliated and then went to Khaos instead.
A smirk touched Khaos’s lip. He put his hand on her waist and pulled her closer.
“This is the order from the king,” Khaos said. “You need to open the gates and surrender. Alpha Roland has been punished for treason, if you kept this act, you will brand as a traitor too. You better cooperate this time.”
Rhett narrowed his eyes, not to what Khaos said, but to the fact that Zuri chose this alpha instead of him. He used to be her favorite person.
“Zuri, come here,” Rhett said. He beckoned her and she looked hesitated.
“She is promised to me, I think you must have known about that, knowing you even have your own informant,” Khaos said, he then took Zuri’s hand. “I will wait until the sun set and we will discuss your surrender.”
Rhett looked annoyed because Zuri didn’t listen to him. She looked at him apologetically and averted her gaze, but that was not what he wanted right now.
“Or what? Are you going to bring a battle to our door?”
“Do you think you can afford a battle with the royal warrior?”
Both of them knew the final result if the situation came to that. It was no brainer that the only
thing River Creek pack from it was casualties.
Rhett finally put his focus on Khaos, his voice dripped with demand when he spoke again.
“Silas can’t be the alpha.”
Khaos raised his brows. “Do you want to be the alpha?”
“Yes.” His answer was solid.
This progress was interesting for Khaos.
Zuri hated her father and the needles, she couldn’t think straight when she saw him again, threatening her with the same method he used to do when he was alive.
And now he was dead, Zuri was still trapped in the same nightmare.
How could she be in this situation? She had killed him. She was the reason that he was dead, but even so, she still couldn’t get rid of him.
The only thing in her mind right now was to get rid of him, ghost or not, she wanted to know whether he would be bleeding if she smashed his head. She had killed two guards brutally and attacked her brother to the point he was in critical condition.
She was not going to let a ghost from the past to ruin her again.
With that in, Zuri grabbed a vase on the table and charged toward her father. He was still holding those damn needles and a derisive smile graced his lips.
“DIE! DIE!” Zuri smashed the vase against his head and when it shattered into sharp pieces, she grabbed the biggest one and started to stab him.
To her surprised, he was bleeding… the blood felt warm in her hand and this brought smile to her lips…

Declan heard what happened and he approached Khaos to plea for his brother’s case. He was with Rhett in this whole mess, but with how passive he was, he mostly followed his little brother’s lead.
“You misunderstood the situation, alpha, my brother only thought what’s best for this pack,” Declan said. He had seen Silas’s condition, but he didn’t seem to care much about his current state. He could die for all he cared actually, since both of them were not close.
Khaos noticed this. This family was a mess. Well, to be fair, all of the family he knew was a mess. Even Ezra and Mabel were not an exception.
“We opened the gates because we have good intention to work things out.” Declan shook his head, he didn’t dare to look Khaos in the eyes. “We thought Silas will not be a good alpha for this pack. I am sure, you know that too. Rhett only stepped in because he thought that was the right thing to do. This is for the sake of the pack. Silas is not the right person for the position.”
Khaos stared at him without saying anything.
Currently, he occupied the study room, trying to find a glimpse of any valuable information here, understanding what he had to deal with this pack when suddenly Declan requested for the meeting.
“What about you?” Khaos flipped the pages of the book in his hand casually.
“What about me?” Declan looked confused with the question.
“Do you want to be an alpha?” Khaos put down the book and turned around to give Declan his undivided attention. He caught a glimpse of horror in his eyes with his suggestion.
Shaking his head and then avoiding the alpha’s gaze again, Declan stuttered. “I don’t have the ambition nor I have the inspiration to be one. I am not the right person to be in the position, but Rhett will make a perfect alpha.”
No.
If there was one thing that Khaos and Dacre agreed upon it was the fact that they didn’t need someone capable, but instead they needed someone, who they could control and Rhett, with his deviant attitude, would be pain in the ass in the future.
Contrary to what Declan said, Rhett was not the right person for this position.
“No… I can’t be an alpha…” He waved his hands anxiously.
“Then you can leave the room, there are a lot of things I have to handle here.” He nodded at at the door.
Defeated, Declan turned around and then left the room. He swallowed back his protest. He was obviously not a confrontational person.
After that, Khaos spent three hours to rummage the study room, looking for something that could give him more information about what was going on in this pack and what actually happened to Zuri and the medicine she consumed.
As shifter was rarely sick, if they happened to be sick, it must be something crucial, but aside from her hallucination, she was fine, at least physically.
However, before Khaos could discover anything, Gayle entered the room, he looked a little bit hesitated when he spoke.
“Something is not right with luna Zuri,” he said. She was no longer a luna, but because she had been promised to their alpha, they kept addressing her with the title. “We can smell blood from inside the room, but when we asked if she was okay, she told us to leave.”
Khaos didn’t wait for Gayle to finish his explanation when he went to Zuri’s old bedroom and just like what his warrior said, he could smell a thick scent of blood in the air.
He tried to open it, but it was locked. “Open the door.” He knocked. He could hear shuffling noise from inside, clicking sound of the lock and the door was opened, but it was only Zuri’s head that poked between the gap.
