I kept my face low as we went back into the packs main tower, I could hear people talking and wandering about but I didn’t look up at any of them and went straight for the elevators with Koda quietly walking beside me holding my hand in comfort.
I didn’t say a word to him as we rode to the right floor and the second we got inside the suite, I pulled my hand free from his and went straight to the bedroom and curled up in the bed.
‘Maddie’ Koda said gently as he sat beside me and ran his hand over my head and hair ‘Please don’t be upset, it was just a slap, I’m alright and it’s not your fault, you weren’t raised knowing what it’s like in a Lycan pack but you’ll learn and’
‘Please Koda, I just want to be alone’
Koda exhaled sadly as he pulled off his jacket
‘Okay’ He said as he placed his jacket over me to keep me warm ‘I will give you some space and check on with you later’
Koda reached down and kissed my forehead before getting up and leaving me to my misery.
KODA’S POV
‘Hey’ Jaxson greeted me as he came into the kitchen later that evening
‘Hi’ I said glumly as my brother looked around the kitchen ‘She’s in bed’
‘What?’ He frowned as he pulled off his jacket and sat it over a chair ‘Why, is she sick, why the hell didn’t you let me know?’
‘She isn’t sick, she’s upset’
‘Why?’ He asked and glared at me ‘What did you do?’
‘I didn’t do anything!’ I snapped angrily ‘She.. we ran into grandmother’
‘Oh’ Jaxson said, he understood instantly how she was ‘What happened?’
I explained about getting hit and how it had upset Maddie and Jaxson started to look concerned.
‘Dam it’ He groaned and crossed his arms ‘Well she was bound to meet her eventually, we’ll have to cheer her up’
‘And do you have any idea how to do that because I’m at a loss’ I admitted ‘She won’t talk to me and she wanted to be alone’
Jax shook his head and smirked ‘Id*ot, when a women says that, they don’t actually mean it, come on, let’s take her out, have you eaten dinner?’
‘Not yet’ I answered and stood up
‘We’ll go to the club’ Jaxson decided as he walked ahead of me down the hall
He pushed open the bedroom door and walked in, Maddie was still curled up in the middle of the bed under my jacket but she’d fallen asleep.
‘Precious’ Jaxson said as he sat beside her and gently rocked her awake ‘Madelyn, wake up’
Maddie groaned and rolled over, causing the jacket to slip off and reveal her tempting body but I pushed aside my desires.
I had hoped that after spoiling her all day and showing her how wonderful her life could be with us, she’d be finally ready to mate but that dream was out the dam window now thanks to my grandmothers temper.
Maddie slowly opened her eyes and she jumped a little in surprise, she must have forgotten again that she was no longer in her old pack.
‘Jaxson?’ She smiled but then she looked at me and her smile vanished, I hated that she felt so guilty
‘Hey honey’ Jax’s said as he pulled Maddie up into a tight hug ‘Cody told me what happened today, you have nothing to feel guilty about, our grandmother is a strict old bat and it’s definitely not the first time either of us has been hit by her, don’t let it bother you’
Maddie didn’t respond but I noticed her grip on Jax’s shirt tighten
Jaxson pulled back and kissed her but when he went to deepen the kiss, Maddie pulled back and looked down sadly
‘Ok, so up you get’ Jaxson said and scooped her out of the bed ‘Are her clothes in her walk-in yet’
I nodded and put my hands in my pockets
‘Good’
Jaxson carried out mate to her walk-in were Julia had already washed and hung up most of Maddies clothes.
‘We’re going out to the club for dinner’ Jaxson told her as he place Maddie on her feet and looked around at the clothing ‘So you need to shower and get changed, here’
He grabbed a short black dress with long sleeves, Maddie had blushed bright red when I picked it out in the store and said she couldn’t wear something so short.
‘Put this on’ Jaxson passed it to her and she looked at the dress nervously, making me smile for the first time in hours ‘And pick out some shoes and jewelry, you have one hour’
‘But..’ Maddie began to protest but Jax’s held up his hand
‘It wasn’t a request’ He said firmly ‘Go, Cody and I will grab some clothes and shower in the other bathrooms again’
Before she could argue, we both left and went into our walk-in.
‘Do you think she’ll be alright?’ I linked him as I pulled out a black pair of jeans
‘Of course’ Jax shrugged as he looked through his own clothing ‘Besides, a night out will do her wonders, she’s probably never been to a club in her life, she’ll love it’
‘I hope so’ I responded in a defeated tone ‘You didn’t see how upset she was, seeing her cry like that, it… something switched in me, I don’t want to see that again’
Jaxson looked over at me with concern for the first time
‘She will be okay’ He told me with confidence ‘We’ll make sure of it, you just need a fun night out too’
Jax put his hands on my shoulders and shook me a little, making me laugh and shove him off, it was usually me doing that to him.
‘Just go get ready’ I rolled my eyes and walked out of the walk-in holding my outfit.
I looked over at our bathroom door as I left the bedroom, I wondered what she’d do if I just went in and showered with her, would she kick me out?
Flynn growled at me in warning to leave our mate alone so I exhaled grumpily and left the room, stupid Lycan should have been on my side and helping me seduce our girl.
I quickly washed up and changed into black ripped jeans, a tight pale blue shirt and a white open button up shirt over top, black shoes and one of my favourite watches.
I was running my fingers through my hair when Jax’s came down the hallway wearing dress pants and a black button up and jacket, he rarely wore anything other then a suite, not even to the club.
‘Ready?’ He asked
‘Sure’ I shrugged “So how was the meeting this morning, did I miss anything good?”
“Give me your hand”
I touched my brother’s hand and the connection allowed us to share memories and I swapped my day with Maddie for his day at the office”
