“Bring in the sword”
A guard steps in holding a long box nesting in its middle a sword the blade polished smoothly, reflecting the moon it is decorated beautifully stoned with blue diamonds gleaming underneath the moon.
Jaden picks up the sword with shaking hands using both hands to grip it steady.
The night wind wraps around me coldly, the large space strangling me with each forced step he takes, making my heart skip.
I squinted my eyes shut, hoping it would be short and painless.
“Stop!” A voice blares, Jaden throws the sword away with force the diamond broke off.
I crane my neck to see Nisha walking in with Elijah, she looks relieved giving me a small smile before she averts her gaze to the lycanthrope council.
“What is the cause of your nuisance? You can be punished for interrupting due procedures” One of them yells angrily.
“I’m sorry sire, Elders of the Lycanthrope council, Lord Perry,” She says boldly with a bow “I’m Nisha and I am here with evidence that’ll change your judgment”
“We’ve already given the final verdict the case is clear Jaden please continue” “Lord Perry says waving his hand, I stare at him furious which he shrugs off like I was a pest in his way, I can’t believe my mother had an affair to this self-centered slob they were polar opposites.
“The killing of the innocent is a high crime punishable by the moon goddess when all evidence hasn’t been seen” walking away from the jury she walks towards the crowd.
“I’m here urging everyone present, if a friend is the one on trial or your mate or your sister wouldn’t you want to make sure they are guilty before being killed wrongly” Nisha projects to the crowd that responds in positive stating they should give her a chance.
I stare at her in awe at the way she stands boldly, her voice calms her demeanor, giving me the confidence that all hope isn’t lost.
“Order… Order” Lord Perry yells angrily.
“If you don’t have enough evidence to change the council’s mind, bear in mind you will be punished… Severely.” He warns.
“That’s fine by me Lord Perry,” she says, flickering her hair, meeting him square in the eyes, her confidence not fading a bit.
“Nisha please continue” Jaden encourages sitting back in his chair, dabbing at his temples.
With a nod, she stays in the middle of the room.
“Tonight we have all gathered here under the moon so the goddess can witness this trial herself, Hailey Stewarts is accused on the bases of the murder of Riley’s child which the evidence in my hand strictly opposes” Raising the file in a demonstration.
“Why are you beating around the bush child please reveal to us this evidence right away” one of the Elders snaps.
“I will” Nisha says giving him a smile which he cringes at “but before that, I’ll like to give Riley a chance ” Turning in the direction of her mourning cliq she says
“Miss Riley is there something you’d like to tell everyone here this is your chance to own up to your deeds saving us a lot of time and maybe the council will spare you for pulling off such a heinous act ” is it possible Nisha can prove the child Hailey is carrying doesn’t belong to Jaden?
“I don’t have the slightest idea what she’s saying this is all a ploy to lead the council astray when clearly Hailey is the one who has committed a heinous crime killing my innocent child if you hated me Hailey you should have stated it I know you’ve liked Jaden for quite a while, if you wanted him to yourself you should have just asked I would have let him go just for my baby, all I wanted was my child to be happy” she starts sobbing again.
I only hated Hailey because she despised me so much and took it upon herself to see me suffer but killing her child if it belonged to Jaden or not isn’t something I am capable of. Why harm an innocent child in a bucket he knows nothing of?
“Alright then you’ve all heard what she said yourself, here in my hand is a doctor’s report from Mrs. Sheila the famous pediatrician, I’m sure we are all aware of her commitment and traits that made her the woman she is today, she had conducted a proper check up when Riley was hospitalized her signature and note proof she is the one who conducted the test, it states that Riley from the start was never pregnant, to begin with” this news leaves the whole pack in shock.
“Miss Nisha your claim here is a serious offense how dare you lie in front of the council”
“Sire I’m not the one who has told a lie here Riley has fooled us all” she points at her.
“Come to think of it, when she revealed she was pregnant There wasn’t any factual evidence to back this claim. Can anyone claim to have seen a doctor’s report or a file of any sort?”
Nisha questions leaving the whole arena silent as the realization settles in.
“Your silence proves my theory correct so please with your request I’ll like to call on Miss Riley to stand in front of us and tell us why she played a sick joke on everyone here”
“Permission granted Riley please step out”
I watch Riley try to hide the uneasiness she’s failing to stifle.
Walking faintly with Shane helping her.
“I’ll like to plead with the jury not to be castrated by the mere words and fake documents prepared against my dead child” she sniffles wiping at her eyes.
“I had felt uneasy, feeling lightheaded I had done a home test which came out positive that indeed I was pregnant overwhelmed, the news was the same time calamity struck and the pack suffered an attack making me ineligible to visit the hospital for a proper check-up but I told Shane and we had fixed a date our Lord Perry had overhead our conversation immediately called a celebration…
“So Riley what you’re trying to tell the council is you never went for a test in the hospital?” Nisha says cutting her pathetic story.
“No, but only because I was not opportune”
“There you have it, she assumed she was pregnant by conducting a local home check and not a proper check-up” With a dramatic flare, she adds.
“But here I am with accurate files her blood test, body check, and all the procedures had been carried out properly and it states clearly Riley was not pregnant”
I don’t believe it! Nisha had done it and she got rid of all my charges. If Riley wasn’t pregnant then I am not guilty.
“Riley this clearly states you’re not pregnant” The jury voices.
“I… when…but,” she says, shaking.
“Just as we aren’t aware of the fact Riley isn’t pregnant so does Hailey she still attempted to kill an unborn baby” Lord Perry interjects with a frown.
“The evidence that proves Hailey is indeed guilty is highly coincidental Hailey occupied her new room after being away from the pack house for six weeks and not on her own accord did she return, the room had no hindrance anyone could have walked in and out without restriction”
“But-
“Lord Perry I’ll have to stop you there based on the new evidence that has been placed forward we hereby declare Hailey Stewarts not guilty”
The words eased my heart and settled my burning anxiety.
Nisha rushes to my side hugging me and I grip her in my arms, the warmth of her arms healing my shivers.
“Nisha I can’t thank you enough ” I cried into her hair which smelled of honey and lavender.
“What are friends for you’ve already saved my life” she says warmly.
“As for you Riley you are sentenced to thirty-one days imprisonment and hard labor then you will be banished for deceiving the pack “
Riley slumped to her knees begging for forgiveness and I feel compassionate toward her.
I pull from Nisha’s embrace heading to her side.
“Sire,” I say bowing my head, “I’m grateful for your judgment towards me but I plead for Riley she was just erroneous. I know it is unjust for her to have made such a grave mistake but her punishment should be minimized” I begged with folded hands.
It’s highly probable that Riley had known all along and fooled the pack and almost got me killed on purpose but she wouldn’t survive her punishment a few hours down there alters sanity.
They whisper amongst themselves then finally one rises to his feet.
“You have a good heart child” he addresses me before turning to Riley
“We’ll let you by with a warning of three nights in the dungeon but if you make a mistake this outrageous again we will be forced to banish you”
“Thank you so much” Riley says genuinely as a guard picks her up from the floor then she looks at me with solemn eyes her way of silent appreciation, a bitch is a bitch I smile at her as she leaves.
“Hailey” Jade says hugging me till my spine hurts, a public show of affection an Alpha shouldn’t exhibit pulling away he claims my lips kissing me in the most intimate way different from anything I’ve ever felt.
“I think you guys need a room” Elijah says smiling. I could feel my wet panties underneath my legs and the dark look Jaden is giving indicates he felt it too.
“Hailey promised we’ll talk later” Nisha yells as Jaden pulls me out of the arena before I could answer.
Not wasting time we head back to the room, not shutting the door properly as we feast on each other’s lips , ripping our clothes and tossing them recklessly to the floor.
