“Please, don’t leave me. Don’t leave our baby.”
I was only an Omega who had lived a poor life, and maybe everyone believed I was after his money.
One of Leo’s friends came toward me and pushed me aside from him, and I groaned in pain. I watched him sneer sarcastically as he stared at me.
“Was our love ever a joke to you all these years?”
He hesitated for a moment, then firmly responded, “Yes, yes it was, Selene. I must have been blind all these years to see you as Scarlett’s substitute and to ever think you could replace her in my life-especially as a poor and lowly Omega.”
All Leo ever saw was an Omega, not his wife. I couldn’t believe how heartless he was.
“Fine, I’m worthless, but not your child. Not our baby, Leo, please. Stay for our child if you need a reason to stay with me.”
“Don’t you fucking use that thing inside you as an excuse to tie me down, Selene. I fucking know that child isn’t mine. What did I ever expect from an Omega without a good family reputation? I never want to see your filthy face near my pack house again, or I’ll decide the fate of you and that bastard of a child.”
He called our child a bastard!
He turned and began to walk away from me while I heard people murmuring about how stupid and desperate I was because of my status. Tears rolled down my cheeks uncontrollably, and in my anguish, I shut my eyes and lost consciousness, hoping I would wake from this horrible dream.
SELENE. 6 YEARS LATER:
Selene:
“Doctor Lena, it’s time for you to go in,” I heard from where I was seated and immediately rose to my feet. Zoey was with me, holding my hands, nodding her head and telling me I was going to do great.
I took a deep breath in and out, then began to walk into the hall. As I entered, I saw the ladies seated, waiting for my presence. A smile appeared on my face as I walked toward them.
“Good day, ladies,” I greeted before taking my seat.
“Doctor Lena, what a wonderful surprise to meet you.”
I chuckled a bit at their words and nodded. The room was filled with strong and resilient single mothers like me-a place where I could pour out my heart about what I had been through over the years since I was rejected.
They were here to hear my story-the story of how I had managed to become successful.
After I was rejected six years ago, I came to the Crescent Pack with my best friend Zoey, and that’s where life began for me. It wasn’t easy. There were times I wanted to give up and tell myself I was nothing, but I didn’t.
When my parents lost their lives to wild animals in the forest where they worked as farmers, I thought it would be the end for me. I was six months pregnant with my triplets when I received the news, and for weeks I couldn’t bring myself out of my one-room apartment, which I shared with some ladies.
Zoey offered to help me many times, but I refused simply because I felt I had to do everything on my own. I even changed my name to Lena so no one from my past would recognize me.
I turned to the ladies to begin.
“You’ve come so far as a single mother and a successful doctor. How did you manage to achieve all of that in just six years?”
I chuckled aloud as one of the women spoke, then prepared to answer her.
Thinking about my past was sometimes heartbreaking, but knowing that my story gave life and hope to many women out there made me happy and stronger. I felt there was more in store for me.
“It’s a really long story, but I’d like to start from after I was abandoned by my husband.” I chuckled.
Again, I suddenly recalled Leo.
“It wasn’t easy, believe me, ladies. I wanted to end my life too when I thought about where to go, who I could turn to, and the babies growing inside my womb. I didn’t even know back then that there were three of them. I couldn’t run to my parents because it would worry them so much, especially my mother. So I came to the Crescent Pack, hoping to start something there.
I worked so hard, living in a one-room apartment with five ladies who bullied me because of my size. Taking on six menial jobs wasn’t easy, especially because I was carrying triplets.
Once again, my world nearly came crashing down when I heard my parents were attacked by wild animals. At that moment, I became an orphan, and life threw even more at me because I was fired from three of my jobs.”
I heaved deeply and wiped away the tears that brimmed in my eyes before continuing.
“I never once cursed the father of my children. What was I? A simple girl who had nothing to offer him. One thing I bore in mind was that I would never let him set eyes on my babies-the children he abandoned and called bastards.”
“That was so cruel,” one of the ladies uttered.
I chuckled. If only they knew what I had to go through at Leo’s hands after he found his real mate and realized I was only a replica of her. What I had to endure when I received a life-threatening letter at the hospital telling me that if I stepped foot back into the pack, that would be the last time I would ever see him-because I would be dead. A message that sent fear crawling deep into my heart, so I had to run for my life.
“It’s life, after all.”
Then I heaved deeply.
“With the help of my very good friend, I was able to return to school and further my education. I studied so hard, burning the midnight candles. Every day I had to work for my babies, I grew stronger. I told myself I wanted to give them the perfect life-one they truly deserved with everything good. My babies gave me hope and made me realize that I was stronger… and today…” I sniffled.
“Those three little devils are my everything. Because of them, I am where I am today-still fighting so hard to give them everything.”
The ladies all began laughing, and I joined them as well.
“What a touching story, Doctor Lena.”
“You’re such an amazing person, Doctor Lena,” another said.
Their words just made me chuckle.
“Thank you all so much for coming today. It was such an honor to have you here, willing to listen to my story.”
“We should be thanking you, Doctor Lena. Your story is such a touching one.”
I rose to my feet and picked up my bag, getting ready to leave. As I stepped outside, I saw Zoey still waiting for me. She stood up, rushed toward me, and hugged me tight.
