Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 40 – My Mate or My Foe

“Looks one night changed a lot” Nisha teases and I get a feeling to smack her as I blush. Jaden’s trait possessed me.

“Come on let’s go shopping to celebrate my treat “

“I don’t think that’s a great idea” I reply absent-mindedly, the new change fascinated me.

“Come on” Nisha pulls me away from the mirror.

“You just won a case that almost ended in your demise that’s the least you can do ain’t you tired of being cooped up in this house I feel suffocated and I haven’t stayed for a week”

Just remembering how close to death I was made my stomach knot cueing me I haven’t absorbed a proper meal.

“Looks like we’ll also catch a late breakfast ” Nisha adds having heard my rumbling tummy.

“I will first enlighten me how you deduced Riley isn’t pregnant”

“Well I was heading back from my date with Elijah when I overheard a maid saying you’ve been restrained for the murder of Riley’s child”

“I promptly head to the pack hospital knowing immediately you had been framed Riley was still under proper check the doctor had told her everything seemed fine but she can’t find her baby and that she might have lost it since we were good friends I asked her to have proper check and a blood test hoping she could save the baby” taking a pause.

“Riley was put under * where the doctor did the check so I’m guessing you know the rest of the story I had arrived late because I wanted to make sure the tests were accurate”

“Nisha you are a genius thank you so much”

“Thank me by hurrying out of the shower She says pulling me towards the bathroom I don’t know what to wear all my clothes are in the next room.

“I’m aware, I’ll get you something no more chit chat” Nisha insists she had a bossy nature the same one that made it possible I’m breathing.

I didn’t spend much time in the bathroom. Nisha had left to pick up something from her room like she said she picked out a jumpsuit and laid it on the bed.

Not taking chances I bolt the bedroom door before properly cleaning my hair and changing into my attire.

The red color of my hair seeping on the edges the dye was fading and in need of toning another thing on my bucket list.

Nisha has wasted a large amount of time, bored of waiting I rush out of the room running into a huge figure that doesn’t bulge, Lord Perry.

“Sire “I bow in respect about to apologize for darting into him.

“Watch where you heading Hailey we don’t want anything happening to you or your friend,” he says in an icy tone, sounding more like a threat sending chills down my spine.

“Alright, shall we?” Nisha says drawing my attention towards her.

“Sorry I…” She halts, squinting her eyes and observing my features.

I’m sure she could see the fear lurking in them.

Turning to the side of the hallway Lord Perry walked through he was gone.

I rub my elbows nervously knowing that is no empty threat.

Lord Perry is a wealthy powerful man: two elements that can get him anything he wants.

What did he mean by that?

“Hailey, what’s wrong?” Nisha asks, troubled.

“No nothing” I lie, my voice betrays me by wavering.

“You sure?” She pushes.

“Yes,” I say with more force, managing to smile.

“Alright let’s go shopping, I’m starving and stressed, though I would have loved to hit the spa but Elijah doesn’t like the idea of me being exposed in a room when he’s not in charge, I’m sure Jaden wouldn’t mind would he?” She starts the conversation as we head through the hall.

“Not one bit” I joke knowing how jealous he could get.

“Only if we’re in a single room with two hunky men and void of towels” I raise my eyebrows making Nisha chuckle.

“Real funny,” Jaden says sneaking up on me via mind link.

“Is there any way you can block out the mind link?” I ask Nisha.

“There should be Elijah does it all the time it’s a gift and a curse but I don’t bother blocking him out I’ll only return to tell him every detail later,” she says giving a warm smile her eyes gleaming, I’m guessing she’s talking to him.

Well, I don’t like the feeling of being split in three, Helen, my best companion, already has my thoughts to feast on.

“You didn’t split baby, that part of you belonged to me, to begin with” butterflies roll low in my belly and I get why Nisha doesn’t block Elijah out: his voice soothes me.

“Grab a red lingerie too” Jaden says and now I wanted my personal space back.

“Please leave”

We head into Nisha’s spider car.

I walk into the car, a bit surprised she knows how to drive.

“So Nisha, how did you meet Elijah?” I ask, a bit curious.

Starting the ignition she puts the car in gear before saying

“At a war” I laugh out loud but stop when I see her keep the same expression focusing on the road.

“You are joking right?” I ask.

“Not even a little bit, My pack Blood Moon clan had an enmity with this one and Elijah was the one in charge of the ambush on my pack, I was heading to the safe house when I ran into him.” She narrates smiling.

“I must have been on fire cause I felt myself melt underneath him the enmity had been settled a month later the day the peace treaty was signed Elijah claimed me and faced a lot of complications before he could bring me back here to face his duties as Jaden’s Beta and best friend”

“Aww that’s so romantic,” I say, staring at her, love at war.

“Shut up so what’s your romance story”

I bring up the thought that Jaden’s story was nothing romantic.

But Nisha was waiting patiently and I couldn’t leave her hanging.

“You know the usual happily ever after story”

“Rough beginning I’m guessing”

“That’s an understatement trust me” I chuckle looking back at how we made it here.

“That’s cool the best love stories have the worst beginnings” which was true but I wish the story could erase some of the down side.

“Coffee or smoothie?”

“Ehmm a little caffeine won’t be bad now” I understand why she asks a while later as she heads to a restaurant’s drive-thru and orders for both of us.

The snacks are mouth-watering.

A muffin, scones, jelly doughnuts and cupcakes with coffee.

We eat in silence as we head to the shopping mall.

The tall building is hugely crowded with a lot of people, a lot of stalls and mini shops, I have no idea where to start.
