Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 41 – His Replica Mate

She didn’t say anything; she just gulped down her glass of wine and poured herself another.

“So, do I just need to get laid, or were you right?” she turned and asked me.

I saw the look in her eyes, and she was scared. My friend, who doesn’t let anything rattle her, was scared.

“Oh, Zoey, I think you already know the answer to that question,” I told her.

“Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Shit. Why? Why did it have to be me? Why did I have to be one of the rare cases, me of all people? Can you imagine me telling my parents that my mate is a werewolf? They might just die, Lena. They might just die,” she said.

“Alright, you need to calm down. Take a few deep breaths for me. We’re going to figure this out, okay?” I told her, and she nodded her head, taking a few deep breaths.

“There, that’s better, isn’t it? So, you don’t need to think too far ahead about telling your parents. You just have to think about the here and now-just you and Zeo, getting to know him and seeing if this is really what you want. Because if it does get to the point where you have to tell your parents, it means you’ve fallen in love with him, and he’s the one you want to be with. And who knows, both of you might be the ones to finally heal the rift in your family,” I said to her.

“Yeah, you’re right. I’m spiraling. I might not even like the man. Lord knows, just these few hours I spent with him, I’ve imagined about ten different ways I could kill him,” she said, and I laughed.

“You see, your parents are still a way off,” I told her.

“Yeah, you’re right. So, are we going to talk about you and Leo, spending time together, just the two of you?” she asked me.

“We’re not spending time together. We’re going to convince the witch to help us, and then we’re back home. That’s it,” I told her.

“Don’t act smart with me, Lena. I have eyes, and you might try to deny it, but deep down, you know he’s starting to tear down your walls. What’s he going to do when it’s just the two of you?” she asked me.

“Yeah, that’s what I’m scared of. Not what he’ll do, but how far I’ll let him go.”

Lena’s POV

It’s ten-thirty in the morning. Last night, Zoey and I talked, and that was exactly what I needed to put my defenses up. Leo might be a changed man, and I’m not doubting that or anything, but that doesn’t mean I can let him back into my heart. Maybe someday we might be friends. I guess we have to, since I’m considering letting him back into the kids’ lives, but that’s it-just friends.

The kids woke up very cranky this morning, coming down from their sugar high, so I gave them all a hot bath and we had some eggs and toast with orange juice for breakfast. Emmett left about an hour ago to go to the lab, while the kids are currently doing some homeschool with Zoey.

As for me, I’m currently making sure I have everything packed before I close up my suitcase, my carry-on, and my backpack containing my devices, like my laptop, tablet, and, of course, their chargers.

When I’m sure I have everything I need, I zip it all up and carry them downstairs. I drop all my bags by the front door, then walk down to the patio where the kids are having their class.

“Are you all packed?” Zoey asks me.

“Yeah, I have everything I need,” I tell her.

“I’m going to miss you, Momma,” Karla tells me, and her words tug at my heart.

I walk over to where she is, pick her up, and hug her to my chest. “Oh, sweet girl, I’m going to miss you too, so much,” I tell her, then pepper her face with kisses. Soon enough, she starts laughing.

I take a seat and put her on my lap. “When will you be back?” Luke asks me.

“Soon, really soon. I shouldn’t be gone for more than three days. But I promise to call every single day,” I tell him. He just nods and goes back to what he was writing.

“So, you’re going with the boss man?” Liam asks me.

“That’s right. I’m going with Leo. We’re both going to try and convince his friend to help us,” I tell him.

I try to tell the kids as much of the truth as their brains can handle.

“Mama, do you like the boss man?” Liam asks me.

I can’t say the question comes as a shock. Liam has really taken to Leo, but I wasn’t expecting it this soon.

“Yeah, I like him. He’s a good guy,” I told him. I would never badmouth Leo to the kids, no matter how I feel.

“Okay,” he nodded his head and went back to his schoolwork.

That was strange for Liam. I was pretty sure he was going to ask more questions, but I guess I should be happy about it.

I spent the next thirty minutes with the kids, and by eleven on the dot, I heard Leo’s car pull up to the house. A few seconds later, his car horn sounded.

“Boss man!” Liam shouted.

“Can we go say hi?” Luke asked me.

“Of course,” I told him, and immediately, he and Liam ran out of there like they were being chased. Karla, however, still clung to me.

I got up, and Zoey walked with me until we reached the door the boys had left open. Both of them were talking animatedly with Leo.

“Are you ready for this?” Zoey asked me.

“Ready as I’ll ever be,” I replied.

I grabbed my suitcase, and Zoey took the other two bags. We walked to the car, and Leo helped put my things in the trunk.

“Alright, sweet girl, you need to go with Aunt Zoey. Mommy has to go now,” I told Karla.

“NO,” Karla whined.

This doesn’t always happen, but sometimes when I want to travel, she gets really clingy.

“Come on, Karla, Mama is going to come back. She always comes back,” Luke told his sister, but she still didn’t budge.

Leo came over. “Hey, Karla, I take it you don’t want to let your mama go, right? I completely understand. I wouldn’t want to let her go either. But you see, your mama needs to help me with something, and if we find it, it’s going to help a lot of kids just like you get better,” Leo explained to her.
