“We should do this more often,” Nisha says, turning off the ignition.
“Yes we had fun” And that’s the truth it was nice to be around a friend walking mindlessly around dresses with her mate’s black card that had no withdrawal limit.
As I step out, Nisha’s car grabs my shopping bags and her phone rings.
The call lasted about ten seconds.
“Hello, who’s this?” Nisha questions as I look at her she stares at her phone in horror.
“Nisha, what’s wrong?” I ask but she’s half listening, stepping back into the car in a rush reversing hastily drifting to a U-turn and driving away.
That’s weird and unlike Nisha carrying the shopping bags I walk to my room turning the knob, it’s locked.
“You’re staying with me,” Jaden says via mind link and I roll my eyes first banish me then force me back.
He wants me to stay in another room; now he wants us together. He better go for a brain check or something.
“Let me go ” I kick giggling as Jaden carries me in his hand bridal style spinning me in his arms.
“Why are you so happy?” I laugh as he drops me to my feet.
“Look at the mess you made”
I wave at my foot the clutter he made my shopping bags all over the floor, my dresses seeping out of the bags.
“Well you will need them ’cause I wanna take a gorgeous woman” pulling me in his arms. “To a beautiful place and spend time together,” He says, kissing me on the lips.
His phone buzzes in his pocket.
Reaching into it he picks it up and slides his finger across the screen.
“What Elijah, you’re ruining something,” He says, kissing my nose.
His smile turns upside down as he continues listening, his muscles tense as then the phone call ends.
“Jaden, what’s wrong?”
“Nisha has been in an accident”
“Nisha! How!” I yell unbelieving.
“I have no idea we need to hurry, Elijah says she’s in critical condition,” Jaden says in bewilderment.
Oh shit how the hell did that happen.
My heart bleeds out as we hurry to the garage and drive to the pack hospital.
“Nisha Russel what room?” Jaden roars to the receptionist.
With shaking hands, she quickly types on her computer.
“Room thirty… Thirty-four” She says stuttering, Jaden grabs my hands pulling me into the wards reading every goddamn sign till we reach a hallway where Elijah is seen pacing anxiously.
“Elijah” Jaden calls out and he stops looking up at us, his eyes red.
“What happened?”
“I have no fucking idea Jaden” he croaks his eyes wide in shock.
“She was happy, she always Is till that stupid phone call I noticed her uneasy state but was too stupid to ask the was in turmoil I didn’t bother till she blocked out by then it was too late” Elijah narrates staring at the emergency room in agony.
“Jaden, she was involved in a fatal accident…she’s lost a lot of blood… she has a deep cut by the side of her ribs and a lot of bruises… Jaden she recently fought… she will be fine….fine right she has to be the promised me” I see a warrior break down on a bench crying his heart out.
Tears brim in mine as I walk towards the emergency room door.
I shouldn’t have left her. I saw the look on her face and expected she was troubled.
Oh, Nisha, why the hell didn’t you say anything? If only I can get to her, I’ll be able to help her.
I feel his hot breath on my neck, I turn around letting him wrap his hand around me, his body heat giving me warmth.
Seconds turn to minutes.
Minutes turn to hours.
The sun had left the sky and returned but none of us had moved, each taking turns walking through the hallway sitting on the bench, going to the restroom or cafeteria to get coffee to stay awake.
The hospital’s coffee tasted pale but we still took it to keep us active.
We all worry sick about her with no news on her condition.
Jaden tried to handle the pack’s issue through his mobile phone and Elijah looked the worst, his face losing its color, the situation draining him with no response of how she’s faring.
Any nurse who walked in or out of the emergency room said the same thing: we just had to wait.
My heart aches as I pray to the moon goddess for my friend.
“Doctor, what’s the condition how’s Nisha….. She’s going to be alright right” Elijah asks as the doctor stepped out of the emergency room with a gloomy look.
“Things don’t look so good she’s not responding to the treatment her condition hasn’t deteriorated or improved either, her healing abilities are slow but she has been stabilized and under anesthetics, we’ve done our best, now just have to wait and see with time how she responds”
“Can… Can I see her?” Elijah asks.
“You’ll have to be patient when she’s moved to another room, it won’t be too long, “he says, stepping away.
“Hailey you should head back to the pack house, get some rest and return later” Jaden suggests sadly.
“I’m not leaving till I know she’s alright, “I say and that’s the end of the discussion.
A while later a nurse pulls out a stretcher with Nisha on it.
She looked so pale lying there with a bandage wrapped around her hair and the side of her face in bruises.
They carry her through the halls to a different room stating we wait outside.
Jaden’s phone rings for the 50th time today and he looks frustrated.
“You should head back to the pack house” I suggest rubbing his elbows.
“No I won’t leave you here alone” he says with a sad smile.
“You have matters to tend and you look like you need rest just go finish up Nisha is going to be alright we all are” I assured.
“Yeah, Jaden you can leave I got this” Elijah adds, with a sigh he kisses me.
“Take care of him and call If you need anything” Jaden’s final words before leaving.
“Please go see the patient one at a time” a nurse instructs leaving Nisha’s room, Elijah looks up at me like he’s asking for permission to go in first.
“Sure you can go” I needed to use the restroom anyway.
Elijah hurries in while I go to the restroom.
I return to see a man in an all-black attire running out of Nisha’s room.
