Mary excuses herself and I’m left with my brother, staring at Arya and Jacob, I glance at him and it’s obvious he’s using his special abilities
“That’s rude,”
“They are mates,” He laughs like he said a joke. While I gape, he gets a glass of champagne and gulps it. Wow, my eyes instinctively went to my mate, he was approaching the duo now, oh Leon doesn’t look happy at all. I intervene quickly and hold his arm
“Baby, I think we should start the meeting,” I say, he is about to say something but stops when Alpha Erickson comes in. My mate is fuming with anger but I rub his back, calming him and it seems to work. He seizes me tightly and kisses my temple.
Without a nod or greeting, Erickson passes by us and to a few Alphas, talking.
“Let’s start,”
All the Alphas go to a conference room where they are about a hundred seats to accommodate them however, all the Lunas go to the restaurant to socialize and enjoy themselves,’ See. That’s why we need this new law.
I, however, I’m in here because I am presenting the motion. The Lycan king is the head of the Alpha council and I am sitting next to him. I am nervous.
My mate discusses a few issues with the rest and they agree to disagree. The council vote on most matters. The next motion to be talked about was mine and Leondre smiled,
“The next matter we are discussing is women’s rights and will be presented by your lovely Queen and my mate, Alyssa Altamirano,” He extends his hand to me and I take it.
I inhale and stand up that’s when I felt it; so many eyes on me but I didn’t shudder. My mate’s secretary was already giving out folders where the presentation was so we don’t take up too much time. As they read I saw their reactions, others nodded while others frowned or shake their heads. The room is buzzing lowly as others dismiss it even without hearing me out so I had to speak.
“Good evening noble Alphas, thank you for hearing me out,”
As I begin my speech and show them on the screen the evidence I got that women are been mistreated when they are sold off for alliances or business deals. Some Alphas are mortified. I’m sure they are thinking about their sisters, daughters, and family who could have been in those ladies’ situation.
Half an hour I was gone and the voting started, first, it was my mate who voted in favor of the motion, and then Clara was more than happy to be followed by Mike and my brother. I smiled. Two voted against it and another and another, at this point my heart is beating out of my chest.
“I’m in favor of the new women’s rights,” Jeanet’s Alpha mate spoke with a smile plastered on his face, Alpha Jamal also voted in favor, I should thank the ladies with dinner or something soon. A few others voted until we tied, and all eyes glanced at Erickson. We were 40/40 and he’s the only one who didn’t vote. Time ticked by slowly and my heart shrunk with every passing second. Will he use this chance to hurt me for rejecting him? His eyes were cold and his face was stern, he didn’t show any emotion whatsoever. Alpha Erickson could say yes and save so many lives, or no, and ruin them. The ball was in his hand and he knew it. Oh, goddess.
Alyssa’s POV
“Well, Alpha Erickson, what is it going to be?” Asked Clara, it was obvious that she despised him as she spoke with venom. Erickson’s gaze wandered to her and then to Mike, his eyes flashed with rage and his fist clutched. I sighed, knowing that it was a losing war. I’ve failed, failed those women I promised to help. Failed the mothers, sisters, aunties, and daughters like me. I didn’t look
“We are waiting,”
“Well, I do believe in empowering women, that is why I vote in favor of the Queen’s motion,” I looked up, my lips stretching into a smile and my mate announces.
“Done, women will be given their birthright and have a sit on the council,”
claps resounded while others grimace. I was relieved, I felt tears in my eyes.
I was so happy and we stay to celebrate… I kiss my mate and he praises me for a job well done.
I was interacting with the ladies who were euphoric about the positive news and soon, I left the room for some fresh air where I found Betty and Jamal getting a little naughty, seeing me, they bowed and left.
“Don’t I get a thank you of a sort?” A voice says. I’m reluctant to turn around.
“Thank you for doing the right thing, Alpha Erickson,” I move passed him and he bows, watching me leave he says;
“You’re welcome,”
It was an evening of surprise, I stopped in my tracks when I saw the mate who rejected me, standing a few feet from me. Alaric was smiling like a creep. Erickson too didn’t leave.
“Alpha Alaric, what are you doing here?” I ask, sternly.
“I am here for a meeting, and I thought I should congratulate you on the new law, Queen Alyssa,” He replies, I nod and we stared at each other for a long time, Alpha Alaric had changed not only in appearance but his aura, there was something dark about it and I didn’t like it one bit.
My brother and mate strode outside, worriedly. A few Alphas also came.
“What’s wrong,”
“Packs are been attacked by Werebears and rogues, there was an attack at our borders and the Eastern packs,” My brother informs me, taking off his jacket and shifting into his huge white wolf. It left the others gasping in awe at the magnificent wolf that takes off in the direction of his pack.
“An attack by Werebears and Rogues?” I murmur. Werebears are part of the shifter community however, they isolate themselves in the deepest part of the world and we don’t even keep in contact, their leader wants nothing to do with other shifters and lives in harmony, so what changed?
“Everyone call unto your warriors to protect your borders and no matter what, the attackers mustn’t reach the packs,” Orders Leondre. The Alphas did that and hastily left, others changing their forms.
“Go back to the castle, I’ll find you,”
I am shocked when those words leave my mate’s lips, he knows me well enough by now. I won’t stay while he fights. I grab his arm, stopping him from leaving.
“I’m going with you, Leon,”
“Don’t fight me on this one, Allie… I’ve already mind-linked Jake to take you home,”
My bodyguard appears and bows to the king.
“Take her home and make sure she doesn’t leave!” He orders, placing a kiss on my lips before he shifts into his dark mighty Lycan that towers over everyone here. With one last growl, he takes off in the Eastern direction. Everyone has dispersed and I’m left with Erickson and Alaric, the two men were talking and I frown in confusion
“Do you know each other?”
As long as I can remember, Alpha Alaric had nothing to do with the North pack, so why were they talking seriously now?
“Just business,”
“Aren’t the packs been attacked? you should be helping,” I raise a questioning eyebrow.
“That’s Lycan’s business,” Shrugs Alaric, selfish weasel as always, he tries to stay away from the fighting. I roll my eyes and turn to Alpha Erickson,
