Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 45 – His Replica Mate

I’m not a man who gets nervous. Very few things in the world can rattle me, but at this moment in time, I admit that I am nervous. I haven’t spoken to her in six years because of what I did.

I’m sure by now some of you might’ve put it together. I mean, there’s only one huge unforgivable thing that I did six years ago, and that was rejecting Selene and getting back together with Scarlett. So, here’s what happened: before I left New Orleans, Freya had a vision, and she told me that love would find me again. Two months later, I met Selene, a complete replica of Scarlett, but their behaviors were completely different. I thought that was it; this was the vision coming true.

So we dated for a while, and then we got married, and everything was good. I did my best to make sure everything was perfect, but then, two years later, I ran into Scarlett at a bar. She said she left her husband and came back for me.

I was so fucking confused, but then I remembered Freya’s vision. It said love would come back to me. So maybe it was referring to Scarlett all along and not Selene. I made a decision, and I chose Scarlett.

But I am not proud of how I handled that situation at all. I was just so wrapped up in Scarlett that nothing and no one else mattered. I rejected Lena and the kids. When she told me she was pregnant, it just didn’t register, or maybe I just didn’t care at that moment. I don’t know.

But anyway, that night an unknown number called me. It turned out it was Freya. At first, I was shocked that she was actually using a phone. But then she proceeded to tell me that she saw everything that happened, how I treated Selene, and she couldn’t believe that I was capable of such a thing. Instead of me listening and trying to explain, I went off on her, and she told me that she never wanted to speak to me again.

That was the last time I ever spoke to her, but I’ve had people check up on her once in a while, just so I know she’s okay.

“Leo, Leo!” Lena calls my name, pulling me out of my walk down memory lane.

“Are you good? You’ve just been staring at that apartment building for minutes now. I take it that’s where Freya lives?” she asks me.

“Yeah, that’s where she lives,” I tell her. I hadn’t even realized we had gotten here.

“Everything is going to be fine. It’s been six years. I’m sure that whatever it is you did, she probably isn’t angry anymore. All you need to do is apologize… and a little groveling,” she says, still wearing that little smile.

“A little groveling?” I ask her.

“Maybe not a little. I mean, it has been six years,” she says, and I can’t help but smile.

“I’m ready to do anything,” I tell her.

“Okay, that’s the spirit. Let’s go,” she says, then opens her door and steps out of the car.

I take a few deep breaths, then open my door and get out too. Lena walks up to me and does something surprising-she takes my hand. She doesn’t say anything, doesn’t even look at me. We just start walking to the building.

We get into the building and take the elevator to the fifth floor. The elevator doors open, and we walk out. Lena doesn’t say anything, just allows me to lead her until…

We get to apartment 5D. That’s Freya’s apartment. I don’t knock at first; I listen in and can hear a heartbeat-a recognizable heartbeat. It’s Freya. She’s in there.

I raise my hand and knock three times.

“Who is it?” she shouts as I hear her walking toward the door.

Then I hear her grumble something about people knocking and not saying who they are, who raised them, and that it’s just proper etiquette. Her grumbling makes me smile. I look at Lena, and she’s smiling too, which means she heard it.

A few seconds later, the door pulls open, and there she is-my little sister, Freya. She doesn’t look shocked to see me, though.

“Hello, Freya.”

“Leo, why the hell did you take so long?” she asks me, and I’m so confused.

“What?” I ask her.

“I’ve been expecting you for days now, but my visions don’t usually give me a specific date,” she tells me.

Oh, that explains it.

“Selene, it’s so nice to finally meet you in person. Now, both of you, come on in. We have a lot to catch up on.”

Alpha Leo’s POV

She opens the door wider, and Lena and I step in, shocked. I thought she would’ve slammed the door in my face-I was expecting it. But I wasn’t expecting this at all: her being all calm and welcoming us in.

I look around the house and see that she’s done some remodeling. “The house looks amazing, Freya,” I tell her.

“Thank you. I had a phase where all I watched at home were home decorating shows, so I decided to experiment on the apartment,” she tells me as she leads us to the living room.

“Please, Selene, take a seat,” she tells Lena.

“Actually, I don’t go by Selene anymore. It’s now Lena,” Lena corrects her.

“Okay, please have a seat, Lena,” Freya says, and Lena leaves me and takes a seat on the couch.

“Now, as for you, big brother…” Freya turns to me, and then her eyes turn purple. The next thing I know, I’m being thrown against the wall across the room. Yeah, I should’ve seen that coming.

“How could you? I mean, you actually stayed six years-six whole years-without talking to me!” she screams, then throws me against another wall, all without lifting a finger. Fuck, I forgot how strong she was.

“Freya, that’s enough. If you would just let me explain…” I tell her, but she pulls me up, and the force holds me against the wall. I can’t move.

“Explain what? That the only reason you’re here right now is because you need my help? Huh? Is that what you want to explain, Leo? Or do you want to explain to me why you rejected your pregnant wife and got back together with your ex? And when I called you out on it and told you that you were making the biggest mistake of your life, instead of listening to me, you decided to go off on me and never speak to me again for six fucking years. Yeah, you better have a fucking good explanation for that, Leonardo,” she finishes, and I hear a loud gasp from Lena. Freya turns to look at her.

“Oh, so she doesn’t know? You didn’t tell her?” she asks me, and I shake my head, no.

She stops the magic that’s holding me against the wall, and I fall to the floor, but I get up.

I look at her for the first time since we got here, really look at her. She looks the same, but she also looks older. She’s angry, but she’s more sad than angry, and I’m the one who did that to her.

I walk up to her and hug her against my chest. “I missed you. Every day for the past six years, I’ve missed you.” I pull back and hold her hands in mine.

“I was an idiot, a jerk, an ass-whatever name you want to call me, I know that’s what I was. I messed up big time, and by the time I realized how badly I messed up, time had passed, and I was scared to come to you. I was a coward. But I never really let go. I’ve had people watching over you,” I tell her.

“I know, my next-door neighbors, Tim and Greg. It took me a while, but I figured it out,” she tells me.
