Jared chuckled softly. “Now that’s not usually the response I would get from a woman.”
“I’m not your type of woman,” she stated right back and turned her eyes back to her work.” What do I owe the pleasure of your company this time, Mr Hayes?”
Creed chortled inside his mind as the word pleasure shot an image into Jared’s mind that he shouldn’t have; his bloody father likely knew how she worded things even. He stepped into her office and closed the door as he shook the image off and walked over and sat down. “I’m here to let you know what punishment Carlotti is to receive.”
“It’s none of my business how you or your father handles his pack members, I’m just here to work and earn a living,” she answered.
“Regardless, father told me I had to come and see you, inform you of the punishment, so here I am to do that. Three lashes with the cat of three tails, and three days on the shaming post. She’s headed back to the pack in a silver cuff, right now to be put in the cells until father gets home to deal out the punishment.”
“Alright.” Wynta shrugged it off.
“Do you not care at all about her being punished for her crime?” he asked and leaned forward onto her desk. She looked at him and leaned back into her chair; she didn’t like him in her personal space, he realized, and that was considered to be her desk.
“No, again, like I said, I’m just here to earn a living is all, so I can pay my rent and feed myself.
He nodded and stared at her for a moment, as he thought about her words. “Surely you can afford a better place to live? I’ve seen your salary and your shoebox of an apartment.”
“My living circumstances are for me to decide upon, are they not?” she asked in return.
He nodded once more. He couldn’t argue with that, so he let it go. “How’s your knee?” he asked as he leaned back in that chair to try and make her feel more comfortable around him. “Did you damage it.”
“I’ll survive. I’m tough, Mr Hayes, if that is all.” She looked past him to her office door and then back to him. She was trying to dismiss him like she probably did her team or others that worked here around her. She definitely didn’t care that he was an Alpha.
“I’ll be giving you a lift home this afternoon. Seeing as your injury was once again aggravated on company grounds,” He held up a hand to her to stop her voicing that she didn’t want that.” I can meet you downstairs out the front of the building, or I can stroll in here and ask if you’re ready to leave for the day.” He smiled at her.
He watched her purse her lips and think about it. “It’ll be one or the other, Wynta.” He smiled. “I’m probably about as stubborn as you are. Oh, and just so you know, father has put me in charge of bringing you officially into the pack. So, you’ll be seeing me a lot, dealing with me, not him from now on.”
That made her snort with amusement and her annoyance it seemed was gone, evaporated instantly. “Hmm, and just how are you planning on doing that?” she asked.
“I don’t know yet, but I do know something about you. You don’t like the office gossiping about you and.” He smiled at her. “What they probably think is going on between us. That could be fun for me, a way for me to get you to do as I want.”
Her smile was gone in an instant. “Get out.” She snapped at him and stood up.
He blinked at the sudden change of attitude, he’d struck a nerve, something had happened he could only think as he turned and looked at her from the chair, and she opened the door to her office and looked at him pointedly. “Get out of my office, Mr Hayes.” She stated quite angrily for all out there to here, and her tone brooked no argument.
He stood and walked to her door. “I wouldn’t actually do anything like that, Wynta.”
“My name is Ms Morgan to you,” she stated in an angry flat tone and waved a hand out the door. “Go, we’re done talking.”
He nodded, and stepped out of her office, and she shut the door in his face, he shook his head and turned to find her entire team staring at him. “Touched on a nerve, I did.” He stated, “Thank you all for today, clearing Wynta’s name and all. Carlotti has been removed from the building and won’t be allowed to come back for a very long time,” he told them and walked off back to his office.
Jared
He was standing outside the office, patiently waiting for Wynta to come downstairs. He had a gut feeling that she was going to duck out early to avoid him driving her home. Seeing that he’d upset her, he’d not meant to. It had been light and playful, he’d thought, but she’d not taken it that way, something had clearly gone down with her in those same undertones he could only guess.
So, flirting with her in the workplace was a no-go, which meant that he was likely going to be limited to getting to know her, outside of the office, and being able to play the charming card was only going to be allowed outside working hours. That was annoying for him, most she-wolves didn’t really care about things like that.
An Alpha wolf paying them attention in a fun, flirty way was normally welcomed if they weren’t waiting for their fated mate that was. Not this rogue, his father had said she was quite likable, and he’d gotten to see glimpses of the fun side of her, though he’d been hoping to keep things that way, seems he’d gotten it wrong.
He’d spent the afternoon digging into her history and reference checking her, trying to figure out just what had gone on in her past working history or if she just didn’t want him flirting with her at all. He’d found out all he’d needed to know, she’d been let go from her previous job, a male employee had claimed she’d sexually harassed him, and she’d been let go because of it.
That annoyed him to no end, because he didn’t see her as the type to do that. The girl was work-driven. As she’d stated, her only need was to earn a living to pay her rent and feed herself. He also didn’t see her as the type to chase a man. She might be wolf-less, but she was still wolfen. If she’d ever had s*x with a wolf, a human man wouldn’t compare.
That made him wonder if she did have a human boyfriend though, he’d not considered that, he couldn’t well ask his father that question. The man would instantly turn that to ‘Are you interested, son?’ And even if he said no, his father wouldn’t believe him.
