“Let’s go back home,” Khaos said, he brushed a few strands of hair away from her face.
By now, the sun had risen, illuminating all the dark corners of the wood. The ray of the sun fell on her face and she squinted her eyes slightly.
“Is that really you? Or am I seeing thing again?” Zuri asked, her voice was hoarse, she looked very tired.
“It’s me.” Khaos let her touched his face and kissed her palm. The weather was rather cold right now and he shrugged his cloak off to put it on her shoulders.
“There were people who wanted to harm you.” Zuri moved her body, she rested her head against his chest, hearing his strong heartbeat and matched their breathing, she liked doing this, it was comforting for her. “I killed them all.”
“Thank you for protecting me,” Khaos said, he wrapped her with a tight hug, where Zuri sighed comfortably. “They were not here to harm me, they were here to take Silas away.”
Just like what Khaos had thought, her idea of someone wanted to kill him, stemmed from her hallucination, where she created a story in her own mind, or the voices in her head that kept telling her that.
“Let’s go back.” Khaos kissed the top of her head.
“Am I… crazy? I don’t know what is real anymore.”
Khaos gathered her in his arms and then stood up. He carried her to walk back to the pack house. “Let’s get your medicine, you will be fine.”
“But, the healer…”
“I found the healer.” Khaos looked down and saw her sad eyes. “You will be alright.”
“I want to sleep.” Zuri snuggled against his chest. “Can you sing for me.”
Khaos chuckled with that request. “I don’t sing.”
“Too bad. I think you have a nice voice.”
Their walk back to the pack house was rather peaceful. Zuri fell asleep half way through and when Khaos put her on the tub, she barely opened her eyes, as the alpha helped her to clean herself from the dirt.
Her body didn’t improve. You could see her ribs and collarbones protruded. She was too skinny to the point there was hollow on her cheeks.
Khaos had tried to make her stopped vomiting her food, but apparently she kept doing it behind his back. The fact that she could do it whenever she pleased, didn’t sit well with him.
Meanwhile, Rhett was still trying to find Zuri until he got news around evening that her sister had returned to the pack house with the alpha, he was the one, who had found her.
“Bring the healer here to make her medicine,” Khaos said, he didn’t even give Rhett time to breath when he ordered him the moment he stepped into the bedroom, which forced him to leave again before he saw his sister.
There were a lot of things that Khaos wanted to ask that man, but all of that could wait until when Zuri’s condition was better.
He stayed the night with Zuri, while the healer gave the medicine to him a few hours later. He spent the entire night to read the remaining of the scriptures and decipher them.
Rhett came with the notes about beauty blood and what type of curses that they put on Zuri, it matched with the one that they gave to the last shell before the annihilation of the lycan.
“Hallucination…” Khaos read the part of the side effect of the curses and then looked at Zuri. The hallucination would get stronger and it would be dangerous for her and people around
her.
Based on what Khaos had deciphered from the scriptures, hallucination was part of the side effect of the curses along with many more, it depended on the Shell’s endurance.
But, all the Shell would be hallucinating at some point and when they reached this stage, it would be dangerous for them and all the people around her, because they could turn very violent, since they didn’t recognize themselves or other people.
Hearing voices, creating stories in their head, feeling unsafe because they always thought someone might kill them and many more.
Based on the notes that was left behind, the last Shell managed to contain ninety eight curses, which left her with two more curses before it was completed, but her condition…. You could say that she was barely alive.
The Shell needed to be monitored all the time, chained and medicated to keep her alive. She was at the point where she didn’t recognize her surroundings or herself. She lost all of her abilities to communicate.
Death would be a mercy at that point.
Khaos put down the notes and then looked at Zuri. All the thing that he read, would be her future. That was what happened to her and there was no way back. And now, she started to show the symptoms.
Khaos caressed Zuri’s cheek and brushed away her hair. Her cheekbones were sharp enough to cut you.
Twenty three more curses before it was completed. She had to endure twenty three more before everything was over, but then what was left of her? Would she be back to normal?
That was a big question, since no one ever completed it, aside from the first lycan, but there was no record of that. There was only a sentence that described that and everything else was attempt after attempt.
[Call Rhett here and also the healer.] Khaos mindlinked his warriors and a few moment later, Rhett and a middle age woman, whose name he forgot entered the room.
Rhett glanced at Zuri, who was sleeping soundly, there was sadness in his eyes when he saw her condition, but he soon averted his gaze from her and looked at Khaos.
“I will answer all of your question,” Rhett said solemnly. He took a chair and placed it opposite from Khaos, the healer did the same, but she sat a little bit behind Rhett, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding the scriptures and the notes.
“Why did you choose her?” Khaos turned his body and gave all of his attention to Rhett.
“Because of her body’s constitution.” Rhett glanced at the healer, whose hair was the color of ashes. She looked calm and collected, there was not an ounce of worry on her face. “You already knew that she has a natural killing intent, that’s enough to know that she will be able to endure it.”
Natural killing intent was something rare, even for shifter. It was true that their body’s constitution was different. It was a simple logic.
“What happened after the beauty blood completed?”
Rhett smiled with excitement from the thought of it alone. “You will get an incredible power that no one can imagine. You will revive the old dynasty and rule the continent and when it happened…”
However, that was not the answer that Khaos was looking for. He had heard about it countless time from Ezra.
“What happened with her?” Khaos cut him off.
Rhett stopped himself and his eyes fell on Zuri again, they became sad. “We don’t know for sure what will happen to her.”
Khaos had expected the answer, he only wanted to make sure that they didn’t have any additional information about it.
“You don’t need to worry, once you are ready, I will let you know about the other people. We are stronger than you expected and our cult covers the entire continent. We have our eyes in every kingdom.”
Rhett looked so proud when he talked about this cult. From the way he said it and how he looked at Khaos, it almost like they were worshippers, who thought the lycan dynasty was a dynasty of God, especially with the secret power that they had.
It fascinated them that such power existed in this realm.
Khaos was not thrilled to learn about it.
