Chapter 49 – Falling for the Last Lycan Novel

After a few discussion, he dismissed the two of them and read more of the scriptures. He didn’t sleep a wink and when Zuri woke up the next day, she looked a little bit better, but she became a little bit clingy to him.

Two days later, the king was informed that Silas was on his way to the capital city with the warriors from Red Beast.

“Half of the team that we sent to River Creek pack died,” Leonard said with a grim. He didn’t like losing warriors, especially those he trained himself. As the royal beta, he was in charge for the Red Beast.

“But, the mission is a succeed, right?” Dacre played with the quill in his hand, he stared at the gloomy sky, the snow had been falling for the last two days. It was getting cold.

“Yes, but…” Leonard looked hesitated, as he searched for the right word to say it. “What is the point of taking Silas? He is useless anyway.”

“Not really. We can use him in different way.” Dacre smiled.

And the king was right, he indeed used Silas in different way because a week later, there was a rumor about Khaos’s attempt to kill Silas because he wanted to take reign on River Creek pack, despite the fact the king had issued a decree that Silas would be the alpha of the pack after his father died, since he was the firstborn.

Of course, this rumor hit Khaos’s reputation hard, especially when it was less than a year, since Khaos’s punishment from killing one of the elders from River Creek pack and it allowed Dacre to issue another punishment for him, in order to limit his movement and power.

A few days later when Silas arrived at the palace, he looked worn out, scared shitless and trembled like a coward. He didn’t know what happened and what kind of political turmoil that the king concocted in his name.

“I will give you a hundred thousand warriors to take what is yours.” Dacre sat in his throne, while Silas was kneeling down in front of him, confused.

“But, you have sent me with two thousand warriors earlier.” Silas shook his head. “My king, I don’t understand what all of this about.”

If only the king didn’t ‘kidnap’ him, he might be able to get his title as the alpha of the River Creek pack, after all alpha Khaos had secured the situation there, the problem was only with his sister, who became even crazier than the last time he met her.

“You don’t need to ask so many questions. Follow my instruction and you will get the glory that you deserved.”

Dacre agreed with Khaos that they needed someone like Silas to sit on the position, since he was very easy to be manipulated, but little did Khaos know, his idea would backfire on him. Dacre adopted the suggestion and made a little bit improvement here and there.

Two thousand warriors that he sent with Silas earlier was only a pretense. It would put Silas in good light that he came in peace, but his brother, Rhett, wanted to take control over the pack, giving the title to himself as the alpha.

And with Khaos now was taking control over the pack and his ‘attempt’ to kill Silas, people could see how greedy he was to reign over two packs, especially with the record of him killing one of the elders from River Creek pack, it was enough to support the rumor that currently spread around like a wildfire.

After all, Dacre’s target was not Rhett, but Khaos.

“My king… alpha Khaos is a battle hardened warrior, even though he can’t shift into his beast, but he has royal warriors under his control… he also has a lot of battle experience, while me…” Silas cleared his throat. He didn’t continue, since he was well aware it would be arduous to compare himself to him. “I think it will be better to summon alpha Khaos and let him to explain himself.”

However, the king simply chuckled. “You don’t need to worry about that, you will only be embarrassed yourself if you tried to make a plan.”

Silas shut his mouth and lowered his head. He knew that he was not smart enough to know any better in this situation.

A moment later, a royal healer asked for audience with the king and Dacre dismissed Silas.

“There is news?” Dacre beckoned the healer to come closer. All the healer in the palace was wearing white dress, but the head healer was wearing green dress.

“Yes, my king.” The healer came forward and the king dismissed all the warriors and guards around him, leaving the throne room empty. “Congratulation, my king. The queen is with a baby.”

Dacre’s smile was wider and his eyes were softer when he heard that. He immediately stood up from his throne and shifted into his beast, so he could reach his queen faster. His heart swelled with happiness.

Of course, this news would be kept secret for a while, until they were sure the baby and the queen were strong enough and had passed the dangerous period.

“My king,” Nycta called for him, she stood up from her chair and approached Dacre when she saw him. She knew that he would come right away the moment he learned about her pregnancy.

“You need to be careful,” Dacre said, he reprimanded her lightly when he saw her running. “Don’t be reckless.” He leaned over and kissed her lips.

Both of them were very happy, despite they didn’t say the word. They even forgot that Rose and the servants were still around when they showed their display of affection.

“Can I have my mate?” Dacre finally let go of Nycta and looked at Rose, who was standing not too far from them.

Rose smiled beautifully, she nodded gracefully and when she spoke, she sounded like she was singing the words. “Of course, my king. I don’t know why the two of you look very happy, but I am happy for you too.”

No one knew about the pregnancy just yet, but Rose thought it must be it. What else the reason for that wide grin from both of them.

Dacre nodded and then he lifted Nycta in his arms, as she squealed in delight, the rest of the day, he made love to her and pamper her without holding back. The king neglected his duty for that day because of how happy he was with the news.

“Silas arrived at the capital city yesterday,” Rhett reported it to Khaos. He approached the alpha when he walked with Zuri in the garden, she still looked weak, but she would be better now she got the medicine. “And there is rumor that starts spreading around.”

“About me wanting this pack?” Khaos asked, he looked at Zuri from the distance, she was staring at the two of them, unhappy because she was not allowed to listen to their conversation.

“You know about that?” Rhett looked amazed, he looked like he was going to kiss Khaos’s hand, as he was very excited that the alpha was well aware about it.

“If you spent time with him long enough, you will know how predictable he is.” Khaos smiled

at Zuri when she pursed her lips.

“As expected of the lycan.”

Khaos shifted attention on Rhett, his voice was cold when he spoke. “Keep saying that recklessly and you will be the very reason of the downfall of the plan.”

Rhett lowered his head and apologized. “I am very happy because finally everything the cult did was not in vain.” He then added. “Zuri is ready for the next curse.”

The next curse…

“Did she know what happened?” Khaos asked, he could see how Zuri became agitated because he talked with Rhett without including her, as if they were keeping a secret from her, which was true.

“No. Not really.” Rhett waved at Zuri, but she was not happy with the gesture and ignored that. She became easily annoyed by little thing and Rhett must have felt the change of her personality. This was one of the side effects of the curse after all. “We sealed her memories about it.”

Obviously, or else, Zuri wouldn’t see Rhett with adoration and still think of him as her favorite brothers. She would have done something to avoid Rhett.

“I will take Zuri for three days. This time, we will try to put four curses at the same time.” He contemplated it for a while. “Last time, she could take three curses. I think her tolerance is rather high right now.”

Khaos’s expression was hard to read. “That’s risky.” He commented about it briefly.

“Yes,” Rhett agreed. “But, we can try.” There was no amount of regret when he talked about inflicting curses on his little sister, as if this was the most normal conversation. “Let’s see what we can do. You don’t need to worry, alpha. I will make sure everything running smoothly. You can meet with the other devotee after we put the curses, with that, you will strengthen our belief to the old dynasty.”

Rhett and the other devotee that he was talking about was not loyal to Khaos, but they were close enough to worship him.

“I will come with you to see the process,” Khaos said. He looked at Zuri, who was being impatient and then approached them. “I will be there in the process.”

Rhett looked surprised, he looked like he wanted to advise Khaos against the idea, but Zuri was already there and the conversation was cut short.
