Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 49 – His Replica Mate

“What?” I ask, confused.

“It’s a long story, but don’t worry, all your other abilities still work,” she says.

“Okay. Well, I’m pretty sure that Lena’s kids are mine,” I tell her, and she looks at me like I’m stupid.

“Well, that’s not really a secret, is it? I mean, she was pregnant when you rejected her,” she says.

“Yes, but when she came to the pack to help, she told me she lost that pregnancy-that the pain of the rejection was too much for her. And I believed her, because I…”

“I’ve heard stories of something like that happening. But then I saw one of the boys, and I swear to you, he looks just like me when I was that age. There’s no difference, and his attitude and behavior are just like mine. I already suspected before when I found out their real age, but seeing him just seals it for me,” I tell her.

“So, what did Lena say?” she asks.

“I haven’t said anything. I wanted to, trust me, it wasn’t easy to hold my tongue. But then I saw the look of fear on her face that day, and I knew I couldn’t. I mean, I couldn’t confront her. I had no right to. I rejected her and the triplets, and for the past six years, she’s had to take care of them all alone. So no, I didn’t say anything,” I explain.

“Wow, well, you’re right. You had no right to confront her about the kids. But now that you know they’re yours, are you just going to let them go?” she asks.

“My plan is to show Lena that I’ve changed, and hopefully, she’ll be able to trust me enough to tell me the truth about the kids and let me into their lives. I’m pretty sure I’m making headway on that,” I tell her.

“Okay, that’s good then. But what about her? Are you planning on getting back into her life?” Freya asks as she busies herself setting out everything she needs to make lunch.

“I want that more than anything in the world. I mean, the moment she stepped back into the pack and I laid eyes on her, it was like the missing piece of the puzzle just clicked into place. She is what’s missing in my life. My life with Scarlett has been rough, like really rough. She’s not the woman I once knew. But I won’t disrespect Lena like that. Before anything can happen between us, I need to get Scarlett out of my life,” I say.

“Well, it only took you six years to realize what everyone in your life has been telling you since the beginning. But about Scarlett, why are you saying it like it’s a chore? If you guys aren’t happy, then just talk to her. Or hell, you can always reject her,” she tells me.

“Yeah, talking doesn’t work with Scarlett, and I can’t reject her because of her parents. I need a good reason to reject her, but don’t worry, I’m already working on it,” I explain.

“Well, I hope it all works out. I’m rooting for you, big brother. So, tell me about the kids. Are all three of them boys?” she asks.

“No, it’s two boys and a girl. Luke is the oldest, then Liam, and then the girl, Karla. Luke is the one who’s exactly like me, then Liam is a mix of me and his mother, but his behavior… I don’t know where he gets it from. He’s a character, that’s the only way I can describe him,” I say.

“He’s a character, that’s the only way I can describe him. He knows my name, but he insists on calling me ‘boss man,’” I tell her, and she laughs.

“Boss man? Where did he get that from?” she asks.

“Well, Lena told him that I was the one who hired her, and ever since then, I’ve been ‘boss man’ to him. Then there’s Karla-she’s the baby of the three. Very shy and reserved, doesn’t talk much, but her smile… her smile is just like her mother’s. It lights up a room,” I tell her, and I don’t even realize that I’m smiling.

“They all sound great. I can’t wait to meet them,” she says.

“Were you able to get in touch with your friend?” I ask her.

“Yes, his name is Vincent, and he’s the leader of the witch faction here in New Orleans. If there’s anyone who knows everything about witch activity, it’s him. He’s agreed to meet with us at the chapel by six,” she tells me.

“The chapel?” I ask her.

“It’s kind of a neutral meeting ground,” she says, but I get the sense that there’s more to it. I don’t push, though.

“Do you need help?” I ask her, and she laughs.

“You don’t know how to cook, Leo, and I’m pretty sure that fact hasn’t changed in the past six years,” she says.

“Fine, but I’ve been told that I’m a very good cutter,” I tell her.

“Fine, you can help me cut up the vegetables for the salad,” she says.

Finally, I don’t know why I waited so long. It’s like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. After six years, I really missed her.

Lena’s POV

After explaining the whole situation to Zoey, she wasn’t happy with it, but she understood. Zeo was freaking ecstatic, and he didn’t try to hide it when he found out he’d be spending more time with Zoey at the house. I said my goodbyes and promised to call back in the evening to talk to the kids.

I opened my suitcase and took out a change of clothes. I’d already checked the bathroom, and Freya was kind enough to lay out some fresh towels for me. I gathered my bath supplies and headed into the bathroom for a shower. Since I had nowhere to be at the moment, I took my time and scrubbed off.

By the time I stepped out, my hands were wrinkled from the heat. I tied my hair in a towel and then wrapped another one around my body. As I stepped out of the bathroom, I was met with a surprise.

“Ah! Leo, you scared me half to death! What are you doing in my room? Why didn’t you knock?” I asked him.

“I’m sorry for scaring you. I did knock, but you didn’t answer, and I got worried,” he replied.

“Don’t you have super hearing? Didn’t you hear the shower in the bathroom?” I asked.

“Well, long story, but our shifter hearing doesn’t work in this house,” he explained.

“Oh,” I said, then realized I was standing in front of Leo, basically naked. The only thing separating us was the towel, and he wasn’t even trying to hide the fact that he was checking me out.

“Turn around, Leo!” I screamed, and I swear I saw the idiot smile, but he turned around. “Is there a reason you were knocking on my door in the first place?” I asked him, not even trying to change into my clothes while he was still facing away.

“Yes, I just wanted to let you know that Freya called her friend, and we’ll be meeting him by six,” he told me.

“Okay, is Freya sure that this person can be trusted?” I asked.

“Yes, she is. His name is Vincent, and he’s the leader of the witch faction here in New Orleans,” he replied.

“Okay then, is that all?” I asked.

“Also, Freya said to tell you that lunch will be ready in thirty minutes. We’ll be having beef stew and rice with a side salad,” he tells me.

“Okay, please tell Freya that I’ll be right out,” I reply.
