Maddie nodded and looked distraught “I’m sorry”
“None of this is your fault” Jax kissed her softly on the lips and turned back to Link “Let’s go then”
As Jax departed, I asked Cole to take Maddie back to my office. I needed to speak with my parents. She was reluctant to go but I convinced her, however before she left, she cringed again, and I growled in warning.
“YOU WERE TOLD NOT TO COMMUNICATE WITH HER!” I shouted.
“Koda enough” My father ordered “Do not speak to my daughter again, or I will kill you”
‘Maddie?’ Cole touched Maddie’s shoulder, but she pulled back, and he pulled his hand back “Sorry, I won’t touch you again”
“It’s okay” She told him but left with him.
I watched Maddie leave before stomping angrily up to my parents who were looking at each other.
“I want to talk privately now” I said testily, which didn’t go down well as my father growled.
“Watch your tone” He warned “Don’t make me lock up both of my son’s”
“We can talk in our office” My mother said, and walked off ahead of us.
“Troy, get out of my tower” My father ordered and spun around angrily and left “And someone clean this blood up”
I followed after them fuming, I can’t believe they locked Jax up for this b*llsh*t, he was defending our mate.
Flynn was just as furious, but I was keeping him at bay, I didn’t need his temper to add to mine right now.
We walked into my parents office and, despite my foul mood, I felt the familiar urge and excitement to renovate this room.
Like my brother, my parents had terrible taste, they loved wood and metal and their huge long desk was a combination of both, over a white rug with black stripes over a dark wooden floor.
They had white shelving and book cases and a glass chandelier that matched nothing in the room and several paintings and pictures all in mix matched frames hung all over the wall.
I’d offered for years to change things up but they said didn’t care about interior decor and that I should just sh*t up and wait until I was King to mess with the main office.
I looked over at my parents, my dad was leaning against his desk with his arms crossed and glaring at me while my mother stood by my side.
“Do you want to explain to me what the h*ll that was back there?” I shouted “Jax didn’t do a damn thing wrong, and you know it, how dare you lock him”
Before I could finish, my mother slapped me hard in the face, and I touched my stinging cheek in shock. She hadn’t hit me in over 50 years.
“Will everyone please stop slapping me!”
“We will when you stop acting like an insufferable b*tch”
“Such a way with words my sweet” My father smiled at my mother with affection “Are you calm now, Cody?”
“Yes” I said and stepped a foot away from my mother who rose her eyebrows at me and smirked.
“I had to lock your brother up” My dad told me as he walked around his desk and sat down “He attacked an Alpha and broke my laws”
“He had every right to attack him” I defended my brother “Jax told me what he said through the link, he insulted Maddie!”
“And your id*ot brother fell for it” My mother commented “Troy was baiting him, he wanted the two of you to lose control, it makes him look like he’s the victim and you two are vicious monsters who stole his sons mate, you’re a better strategist then Jax, I’d have thought you’d figured that out by yourself!”
“He wants Madelyn for a reason” My father told me “Get to the bottom of it tonight, she might feel a little less intimidated to talk to you one on one, rather than having both you boys listening to her every word and let her know we want her to speak to the council tomorrow, she needs to make it known that she doesn’t want Scott and that’s she’s chosen the two of you, now go, we have things to do”
I sighed “Fine, but this is still cr*p!”
“Do you want another slap?” My mother asked and raised her hand
“I’m leaving, geese” I said and quickly left their horribly designed office.
MADELYNS POV
My heart sank as Jaxson walked away surrounded by guards, but he at least didn’t seem bothered, or perhaps it was just for my sake that he was looking so indifferent.
“Cole” Koda said to his Beta, who was staring after Jaxson “Please take Maddie to my office for me, I need to speak with my parents”
“Sure”
“Why can’t I stay with you?” I asked nervously and gripped Koda’s sleeve.
Cole was nice, but I didn’t feel comfortable alone with him, and I was feeling very clingy after seeing Jaxson taken away, I wanted to be close to Koda now more than ever.
“I will be back with you in a few minutes” He told me and kissed my cheek “Please go”
I looked back at Troy, who was glaring at me with a malicious smile.
“I will see you soon pet” Alpha Troy linked me and I cringed again.
Koda turned his head instantly towards Troy and growled in warning.
“YOU WERE TOLD NOT TO COMMUNICATE WITH HER!” Koda shouted, and I stared at him in shock, I’d only heard him lose his temper like this when I’d tried to reject him
“Koda enough” His father said in warning before looking at Troy “Do not speak to my daughter again or I will kill you”
I was completely shocked by his words. Did he call me his daughter? No one had ever called me that before.
‘Maddie?’ Cole said and gently touched my shoulder, but I quickly pulled out of his grip in fear and he pulled his hand back “Sorry, I won’t touch you again”
“It’s okay” I lied.
Cole gestured for me to walk, and together we went back the way Koda and I had come earlier.
“Well that was certainly entertaining” Cole said, as if trying to break the awkward silence between us.
“Will they hurt Jaxson?”
I felt my heart beating loudly and painfully in anticipation of his response.
“Na” Cole put his hands on his pockets as we turned down another corridor and passed a few pack members who looked at me curiously “Maybe just a few good hits, nothing he can’t handle”
I hugged my arms around my chest as I tried to push away this guilt, he was being punished because of me, just like Koda had been.
I was doing nothing but causing the twins trouble and getting them hurt and locked up, they were better off without me.
“I see” I said as I looked at the ground.
