“No thank you”. I say as I start walking away. The look on his face was priceless. My brother stood there, mouth hanging open as I walked away. Beta Markus looked to my brother then back to me, brows furrowed like he did not know what just happened. Quickly he regained his composure and stepped in front of me again.
“Miss. I apologize. It was not a matter of me asking if you would accompany me, it was me informing you that you will come with me.” His voice was laced with little irritation.
“No Beta, you said and I quote IF I MAY REQUEST. That is a question therefore you were asking me to go with you, not you informing me I was to go with you.” I smiled my sweet and innocent smile.
He clears his throat, clearly irritated that I am testing him and grabs my elbow and starts leading me to the front of the ballroom to the stage. His emotions are all over the place. He is irritated and angry for the blatant disrespect I showed him. He is also anxious and hopeful? That is weird.
“Your Highness. “The beta nods and takes a step back from me. I inhale and hold my breath. He smells intoxicating, like a forest right after rain and citrusy. I do a small curtsy and look into his eyes. My breath hitches. Please don’t. Please goddess let the necklace work. All I see are his light brown eyes with flakes of green in them. He squints his eyes at the disrespect of me making eye contact. Once he sees that I am not going to avert my eyes and looks at me up and down and makes a humph sound. Good, the necklace is working. I think to myself. Then he speaks.
“You will do good to know your place, Gamma.”
I look at him with questioning and daring eyes. “You disrespected my Beta and now you are disrespecting me. I am your King and you will show respect, Gamma.” He says in a stern voice. Fen scoffs in my head.
“Asshole.” She spits. My face is void of emotion, but I feel him trying to assert his dominance by letting some of his aura out. The guards behind him bow their heads but I do not. I am unphased.
“Do it.” Fen urges me. Here we go I think.
“You are my King but you have not yet earned my respect. Addressing a person by a rank they do not hold only shows your ignorance. Why would I show you respect when you have yet to earn it. YOUR HIGHNESS.” I say in a condescending tone. His anger enhances and the guards are now cowering, Beta Markus takes a step back clearly uncomfortable, and I stay still. His eyes flicker from his brown to gold. Only the royals have gold wolf eyes. Although he is angry he is also curious. He then looks to his beta and says “Take her out of this room.”
The Beta grabs my arm and forces me to start walking. His emotions are all over the place. Anger that I disrespect him and his king, shocked that I talked to them the way I did, curiosity that the king’s aura did not affect me and dread. I’m not sure what the dread was for and before I could get the chance to look deeper I was thrown into a room. I looked around to see an office.? This is not what I had expected. Why the hell are we in an office and not in a cell or something.
I look out the window and look up. The moon is still shining and glowing. Almost like it is laughing at me, along with the stars. “Fen, what is going on? Why are we here and not in the dungeons? I ask.
“You think I know dipsh*t. It isn’t like I am all knowing. I am just more observant than you and by the look on the king’s face we were sure as sh*t going to the dungeons.”
Just then the door swings open. I know it is the King by his scent. I stay still. Looking out the window and sighing.
He closes the door and comes closer. Releasing his aura full force, but it does not affect me. I just stand there and keep staring. Wondering when my torture of mates will end.
“You will do best to know your place, Gamma.” He speaks almost in a deadly tone. I turn around and face him. He is more handsome than I originally thought. His dark brown hair is military cut, sun kissed skin and a face sculpted like god. He is about 6ft 6in and is bulky as hell. But this will not phase me. I will not let his good looks or the bond affect me.
“I believe you have already said that your highness.” I said looking bored. He is irritated and I can feel his aura all around me. Trying to suffocate me into being submissive. But he has f*cked with the wrong b*tch. I will not bow down to anyone. Every person earns respect and I am only nice to those who I feel deserve it.
I look into his eyes to challenge him. He just stares at me with scrutiny. “Why are you not bowing at my feet? My aura alone should be forcing you to whimper and plead for forgiveness at my feet!” He yells at me. I chuckle and look up towards him with challenging eyes.
“Maybe your aura doesn’t work on people who call your bullish*t.” I say. Which angers him more.
He stomps over to me, grabbing me by the neck and tossing me through the window onto the balcony. Once I stand up he grabs my throat again and leans me over the balcony.
“You are a gamma. You need to learn respect.” He says through gritted teeth.
Almost upside down I can see the ground. He is trying to scare me, to intimidate me. Little does he know I can not and will not be intimidated. I stare blankly at the ground and hold no fear. I do nothing. I do not fight back and I do not submit. He squeezes my throat tighter as if he is going to choke me, but I still do nothing. I smile. It is only a three story drop. Then a dark thought pops into my head. Before I could even do what I was thinking, Fen takes over and does it for me. I rock my body so that I can get enough momentum, hold his wrist in place and use the little ground I have on the balcony to push me over the railing. He was so distracted by his anger and rage that he did not realize what was happening until it was too late. He had too much of his body hanging over the rails because he was holding me. He realized what was happening when we were mid air.
He managed to shift mid air and land on his paws, while I curled up into a tight ball and landed on my side and broke my ribs and arm. I just laid there not really knowing what to do next. This is the first time since I can remember that I do not know what to do, so I just laid there.
He shifted back with his suit still in tack. It’s pretty cool how the royals do not have to tear their clothes apart when they shift.
He stood there staring at me then glanced up at the balcony and back at me. He comes over and grabs my arm to help me stand. I wince but then I feel it. Shit. NO. Nononono. He and his wolf are impressed and intrigued, not angry or disappointed. I pull away and slightly wince because of my arm.
“Are you O..” Before he could finish asking his question he is interrupted.
“What the hell just happened?!” I hear as I see Beta Markus running out with a couple of guards.
The King looked at me and then looked back at his Beta.
“What just happened, Markus, is that we found our new Queen.” I look around and see a slight smile on the King’s face and a beta with his mouth wide open. The guards look confused but then start to bow. I get annoyed and snap my arm back into place. Everybody winces and the sound it makes and the way it looks.
I look at the King and look around. “You have got to be sh*tting me.” I say. Everyone gasps and looks at the King. “NO NO NO YOU FIX THIS RIGHT NOW. WE ARE NOT DOING THIS!” Fen Is screaming at me.
“No I am not sh*tting you. You are the chosen one.” He says.
“Well then… UNCHOOSE it.” I say.
