Chapter 50 – The Alpha She Does Not Care (Wynta & Jared) Novel

He saw her eyes move towards Dwane and then back to him, and he nodded to indicate she was right. She said nothing much, just picked her handbag up and stepped round her desk.

“Where are you going?” he asked out of curiosity. It was only just after lunchtime, and she looked ready to leave the building.

“I’ve got physio this afternoon. If I don’t leave now I’ll miss my taxi. Excuse my Mr Hayes, she stated, and he stepped back from the doorway to let her pass him. To which she did, just walked off, had a quick word with her team and she was gone off to the elevator. She didn’t even so much as look back at him or Dwane.

Jared

Wynta clearly didn’t care that Jamie was getting fired. She didn’t even really seem that surprised that it was her either, just a simple nod and moved on. The girl didn’t really care about much, and he put that down to her being a rogue for so very long. If she’d had claws and a wolf she’d likely be out for blood herself.

Sharon from HR stepped out of the elevator that Wynta was waiting for herself. He watched. her get in, she didn’t even look at him, was looking at her phone, likely checking on where her taxi was.

He walked over to Jamie’s office and stepped inside. Right after Sharon did and closed the door, he didn’t bother to frost the window over, though he knew they all would at the push of a button. He was uncaring about what anyone made of this little scene. It was likely very clear, with two of the company’s CEOS and the head of HR in this room, that was never a good combination.

Jamie looked from him to Dwane and then to Sharon and stated, “What is this about?” Her defenses were up instantly.

“That security breach on Monday,” Jared stated. “We’ve traced it back to you. It’s taken all week long, but do you recall that a memo went out about what would happen to the one that allowed the security breach?”

“I do, is it one of my own team? Is that why you’re all here, am I going to have to go out there. and fire someone.”

“No, that breach was done by you,” Jared stated simply.

“I did not do anything like that. I’ve worked diligently for the past 10 years for this company and never caused one problem.” She shook her head. “Why would I do that, and just to have Wynta assaulted. She and I get along quite well.”

“Hmm, from what I saw of her reaction to me informing her it was you, I wouldn’t agree with that. She didn’t even look surprised it was you. Just the slightest of nod was all I got. Seems to me, you and her aren’t close.”

“She’s not close to anyone, but we get along just fine,” Jamie told him simply. “I did not do what you say I did.”

“Hmm, Dwane, have Lincoln send you the footage of this office and see if Ms Sullivan here was on the phone at the same time as Carlotti was downstairs in the foyer, right down to when she hung up. Did Jamie here hang up?

“On it.” Dwane nodded and placed a call to Lincoln.

He smiled at her, “We’ll wait, but I’d like to see your phone call long, on your personal phone.”

“You have no right to ask for that.” Jamie shook her head no.

“I don’t, legally, but if you have nothing to hide, then why say no? Why not offer that up as a of proving you’re innocent? That’s what I would do.” He shrugged.

“Get a warrant,” she stated. “I know my rights.”

“Hmm, I also know all the company policies about instant dismissal.” He smiled at her as he pulled out a phone that had been sitting in his office for four days now, unlocked for him to have full access to. He leaned on the wall. “Some days, Dwane, I need a triple espresso to plow through all the bullshit I hear.” He murmured as he scrolled through the phone and came to Jamie’s name. He’d gone through the phone before now, and seen that she and Carlotti had texted quite a bit, and seen that she’d given out Wynta’s number to Carlotti months back.

“Why don’t you like Wynta Morgan? I hear she’s hardworking and efficient,” Jared asked as he read her latest words to Carlotti about Wynta, who, in her opinion, was clearly sleeping with the boss, sleeping her way up the ladder. She’d gotten a promotion in record time, and she was always getting visits or calls from the CEO’s, whereas Jamie had worked her ass off for 10 years to get to where she was now. That Jared had picked her up for his brother’s wedding, and then she’d seen him in Wynta’s office, and bought her a dress and dropped it off himself.

“I never said I did,” Jamie stated. “You’re making things up.”

He nodded “I see. Calling your boss a liar to his face. You’ve got some balls, I’ll give you that. How do you know Carlotti?”

“I don’t. She struts through this office with her father and I play nice, she’s quite… vindictive, so everyone plays nice not to be on her bad side.”

“So, you’ve never called her or she you?” he asked now.

“No. Why would I?” She shook her head.

“I got it, Jared,” Dwane interrupted him and showed him the feed of the two cameras, both women on the phone at the same time, both hanging up within a moment of each other. Though he watched on as the footage showed Jamie getting up from her chair in this office. and leaning in her doorway, sipping on a coffee, to watch the show.
