I smiled “It’s alright”
“Ok, go” Koda said before he pulled me in and kissed me softly “Be back in an hour”
“Okay”
I smiled again, it was so nice having someone worry about my safety but also very strange and foreign. I didn’t know how to react to it.
Koda looked hesitant but stood up and closed the door, and we drove off, I turned in my seat and looked out the back window to see my mate staring after the car looking panicked, but when we turned a corner and lost sight of him, I turned around again.
“He’s so silly” I said to Ava, who stirred a little, I could feel her growing stronger by the second and I couldn’t wait to speak with her for real
We drove for twenty minutes, weaving through the morning traffic until we came to a large stone driveway and proceeded up it, parking in a private parking zone.
Dane and I exited the car and I looked up at the impressive stone manor covered in vines and wild flowers.
It looked so beautiful and magical, nothing like the pack house I grew up in that was all wood and lifelessness or the tower which was impressive and elegant, but this little manor was perfect and had a feeling of home to me.
There were several guards wandering around the high stone fence around the grounds and a few others standing by the entrance.
One guard wearing a black and gold uniform came over to us looking annoyed.
“Dane what you doing here?” He asked in a deep voice “The tour’s don’t start for another hour, take your flozzy somewhere else to impress her and stop trying to live out your fake Alpha fantasy here”
“Excuse me” Dane said tersely “You might want to watch it, Graham”
“Why, don’t you want her to know that this is one of your moves” Graham asked and looked me over “He brings girls here all the time dear, although, I have to admit, you are one of the cutest I’ve seen him with”
I glared at the man, he was so rude
“She isn’t my date, you fool” Dane crossed his arms “I’m guarding her, and she wants to visit the manor”
“Well, she can come back when it opens” He told us “Like I said, the tour’s don’t start for an hour”
“Fare enough” Dane said and I looked at him grumpily “I’ll be sure to tell Alphas Koda and Jaxson, that you turned away their mate and that you called her a floozy”
Graham’s eyes widened, and he did a double take of me as another guard behind Graham rushed over.
“You’re the Luna?” The new guard asked, and I nodded, it was still so strange to me to have a title.
“You did that on purpose!” Graham shouted “I am so sorry, Luna, my cousin was just trying to get even with me, I didn’t.. I never would have called you a floozy if I knew who you were”
“So, it’s okay to speak to a woman like that if she’s not your Luna?” I asked, sounding braver, then I actually was “Interesting, now, can I go in please?”
This stupid man was wasting my time, I wanted to see my mother’s room already.
“Of course not, Luna’ Graham said and glared at Dane “Would you like me to get one of the tour guides to show you around?”
“No thank you” I answered and walked towards one of the room doors, which a guard promptly opened for me “Thank you”
“You’re welcome, Luna” He bowed, and I quickly walked inside. Did he just bow to me??
Once Dane and I were inside, I turned to face him.
“Don’t ever do that again” I snapped angrily “I don’t like being used, especially for something as stupid as getting back at a family member”
“I apologize, Luna” Dane looked sincere as he lowered his head “It wasn’t intentional, but I will never disrespect you like that again. Please forgive me”
I glared at him as I wondered if he was being honest or just trying to appease me but in the end, I just nodded, I had more important matters to attend to.
“Which way are the bedrooms?”
“They’re on level 4” He told me and gestured towards the stairs which I took, and together we walked up and up and up, until finally we made it to the top floor.
“Makes you grateful for elevators, doesn’t it” Dane commented as we stepped off the stairs into a long hallway with gorgeous stone flooring and large vases of flowers and plants lining the walls where several family pictures hung.
I looked at all the pictures but frowned sadly when I didn’t see my mother, it was just King Theo and his parents, there wasn’t even any of his brother.
There were two bedrooms open, but there were thick ropes placed in front of the doors to prevent anyone from entering.
“This is the King’s old room” Nathen pointed out “And the late King’s and the Queen mother’s bedroom”
I walked over to another roped-off room with a closed door and tried the handle, only to find the door locked.
“That’s prince Fenrir’s bedroom” Dane told me as he walked closer to my side “No one is allowed in”
I looked around the hallway, but there were no other doors, what was going on, where was my mother’s bedroom.
“Is this it?” I asked Dane “Are there any other bedrooms?”
“There’s a few spare bedrooms on the third floor, but they’re all empty”
I frowned and looked around again, this can’t be it, why would the note send me here if… I paused by a blank wall and frowned, there was something here, something behind the wall.
I reached out and touched it and I felt a strange barrier, this was it, I thanked the goddess for my powers. illusion magic didn’t work on me for long.
“There’s a hidden room here” I announced and closed my eyes, I focused on absorbing the power that held the spell in place and slowly a door began to appear.
“Yes!” I squealed in delight “I knew it, her bedroom is here”
“Who’s bedroom?”
“My mother’s”
“Your mother’s?” Dane looked at me in surprise “Why would your mother live here?”
“The King and Queen adopted her” I answered as I turned the door handle and smiled when I heard a click, it wasn’t locked “But I don’t think the twins want anyone to know that yet so”
“Your secret is safe with me, Luna” He said seriously “Not a word to anyone until you’re ready”
I smiled and pushed open the door, causing a gust of wind to pick up some dust and Dane and I coughed and covered our mouths.
“Guess housekeeping hasn’t been here in a while” Dane joked.
I took a deep breath to steady my racing heart and stepped into my mother’s room.
MADELYN’S POV
I stepped inside the room, which was dark as the windows had been boarded up and when I flicked the light switch the light didn’t work, so I just looked around the dim room using the light coming from the hallway.
